My banks been only drive up in my little town for more than a week.
04-05-2020 , 08:24 PM
Who still goes to the bank?
04-05-2020 , 09:26 PM
they got the money honey.

without the paper stuff in your hand if the internet goes down you dont get to eat.
04-05-2020 , 09:48 PM
It isn't the sort of virus that affects the internet though.

Don't people who worry about such things keep a supply of cash at their home? I usually have some cash lying about just in case I might need it.
04-05-2020 , 10:57 PM
most people i see dont have any cash at all and rely on the internet for it all. and if it is out or electric is down all they can purchase is hope.
there are many not unlikely scenarios where both or one could be down for an extended period of time.
04-05-2020 , 11:02 PM
even with just the banking system down and most out of work. how long before their credit cards are overdrawn and cut off. then what.

it has just started and they are already waiting in lines a quarter of a mile long to get into costco or walmart and the unemployment office.

with the talk of easing happening, it might be a shorter time for lots of things to re open even some form of poker. once the casinos get the get go then they will figure a way to have poker separated at first from close contact.

they may start with every third slot machine and maybe 5 handed poker tables. who knows.

It is a good thing that poker players are well-known for their excellent hygiene practices and never touching their faces.

Our (UK) guys are saying the greatest risk for us now, if we eased up on our social distancing rules too soon, is that we would risk a second spike in the virus with all the threats to life that would bring and then the risk of a second lockdown which would prolong the economic pain we are all going through.

Our current death toll has increased to 18,100.

the old, sick and weak need to stay in. even when the all clear has been given for a time at least.

this thing may go away or flair up a few times more and even more intense. Vast majority will be fine. at least with this calamity everyone knows their chances as an individual.

Yes - probably only about one player from every full ring game will die.

How much paper cash do you recommend having around?
04-24-2020 , 11:08 AM
the amount that you can have and still function if places are not able to take credit cards.
or their cash registers wont function. ive seen where during a big power outage although for a relativelyshort time of a few days where most stores couldnt do business because their cash registers didnt work and credit card machines were down.
and the few where the owner was around allowed cash for the exact amount or you get a hand written thing where you can come back and get your change at a later date.
what if that lasts a month or more. no gas, food, etc. unless you have cash or have the products stored.
years back owners were there. now few stores are like that, and gas stations are run by companies and most grocery stores as well. so there the workers cant do anything for you.
just something to think about.

not long ago i was in a big power outage area that lasted a few days. the small grocery store stayed open and took cash only and local personal checks. he also gave away all his ice cream for free as it was melting and his generators had to be used for more important things in the store..
the bigger store closed and threw out their ice cream because no one was authorized to give anything away and the doors were locked.
one owner owned gas station stayed open and took only cash as his machines were not working and his generator only kept up with the gas pump and lights in the store..

Don't the bears eat the asparagus?
04-26-2020 , 04:52 PM
nothing seems to get it. its fenced in anyways but i have wild asparagus on the property and some i just planted in different spots. nothing seems to eat it. although the bears would if they happened upon it.
most times the bears come around is when my fruit trees are ripe. if i dont pick every single piece they climb up and break off the limbs. black bears. grizzly bears dont climb much. both bears will tear up old rotten logs for the ants. i leave all that stuff for the wildlife. and drop the fruit i dont want.

well its now may 1st. been a couple months of stay at home orders and it seems to have helped immensely slowing the spread of the virus. whether it rears up again and how much is yet to be seen and only can be speculated on. lets hope for the best and some medicine to help and a cure or it mutates into something less harmful and not the other way around.
05-01-2020 , 05:58 PM
I sometimes hope people won't mutate into something more harmful; I'm always disappointed.

Good crisp asparagus never disappoints.
05-01-2020 , 06:30 PM
as darwin proved people as well since we are animals mutate along the way. what we will be in a thousand or a hundred thousand years will be nothing like what we are today except for some kind of resemblance.

by june my bet is casinos open and poker playing in shorthanded games with maybe a shield on both sides of them. or the casinos having one just for the dealer. which is most likely.
05-03-2020 , 11:36 AM
blackjack and slots will open first of course as thats their money makers.

they will have distance but you know how that goes after a short while.
my guess is every 4th slot machine only open. and removing half or more of the blackjack tables and having two or three at each table max.
05-09-2020 , 07:23 PM
well its official, the poker game i play in in montana is opening this coming week. i cant believe it.
i think its way too soon. but montana has had few cases perhaps because the virus hit during the end of the tourist ski season.

it would seem to be that not many would come in and play but i guess we will see.
i wont be there that close to anyone for a long period of time. i hope for the best for them.

looks like things will open with shields. wont do much good as you still have to move around.

With junkies, you can try to supply them with clean needles. But with gamblers there's not much you can do except put on a show.
05-15-2020 , 10:01 AM
smart gamblers weigh the upside against the downside. so playing in those conditions is clear to me.

but good analogy with gamblers and junkies.
