players seem to be calling more lately so ive had to tighten up considerable in the tournaments. in regards to bluffing. has worked well with the bigger and more often payoff of winnig hands.

i think a lot of this is due to doug polk, he has an insane amount of influence on the very avid casual player moving up through the ranks today (basically all of reddit worships his nuts) and he has a lot of videos advocating "don't fold x in y situation even if it sometimes means your wrong" etc etc

could be way off, have no evidence of it but I've seen a lot of "don't fold - doug polk" memes to believe that bluffs will be less EV as we move forward in time

Try to have a more honest looking face when bluffing.

I've never played with Polk, but many of the LA players came up playing fixed-limit and may have learned to make hero calls. My opinion is that monitoring the calling/folding of the players is the big money-getter in these nl games. It changes all the time.

yes all the combination of those things, plus money is looser seems to have the players just putting larger quantities of money in the pots.

the ones that dont bluff just call bigger amounts.
the bluffers do it every hand it seems
the so called good players are trying every pot to win it if you show any weakness, so they get picked off.

a lot can be from the tv poker as they show the most interesting hands and not the boring ones. so it looks like the right plays are to make all kinds of moves, and hero calls or bluffs.

Any one of these may work; especially the last one.

had an old friend from great falls stop in to play in our game in kalispell today. hadnt seen him in years. he runs a game over there and i guess its the best one in town. lots of action for a small game.
i did okay for a while but as in omaha things happen and almost all my winnings evaporated with strange hands on the last card. but that is to be expected in that game.

[My Bold]

For bold portion:

Oh, my....brings back memories. I just never considered hi-low Omaha a serious game, thus I survived most of my playing sessions.

My fondest memory is a big bluff I pulled off years ago. I had nothing, heads up (a rarity) with a good tight player because everyone else had folded to me - I bet my 8 bucks and Mr. tightwad on the button folded. His low draw had exploded in his face on the last card like everyone's. Didn't have to show my nothing hand, no high (the pathetic high hand had visibly folded prior), and raked in a mountain of white chips.

I remember this because bluffing in low-limit Omaha is a rarity - but it can happen once in a Blue Moon. And if feels so good.

in omaha bluffs work against tight players and fail against loose ones. you really have to pick good spots as so many draws want to call.

happy holidays folks. buy your special one something nice.
play extra tight during the holidays as many tighten up as money is already allocated.
12-21-2019 , 07:56 PM
lately really good games where ive been playing. 5,5, pot limit omaha with 10 or 20 on the button most hands. many times its a family pot. i am about the tightest player in the game for good reasons as they call a lot.

it is interesting as they all basically play well. they read hands very well, and escape in big pots. but they play way too loose pre flop, way too loose on the flop for less than pot sized bets, and well the rest of the way unless you can crack something decent as a surprise..

lots of storms going on around the country. anyone driving someplace for the holidays leave a few hours early and watch the roads and the people.
if staying home and eating and watching football dont get too fat.

not many poker games going around the holidays near me. so its outside fun instead of inside work.
nothing wrong with playing where you find a good game and making some extra money for the holidays. thats always fun.

if playing no limit holdem the players buying in short tend to get it in the quickest so be ready for the easy money from them.

Your mountains on 90 on the way to and from ID sucked both ways over the last few of nights. It is beautiful in Deer Lodge today, which more than makes up for it

i am much farther north near glacier national park. 90 is the best of the big roads in the winter. the passes get the most attention.

montana is beautiful in the winter when the sun is out. even when its below zero.

if still in deer lodge there is an incredible car museum in the prison museum.

the secret to winter driving where it might be icy or smow is to drive slowly. duh.

i see so many crashes of people with city tires driving the full speed limit and hitting black ice. usually those tend to be bad crashes as there is no control of where your car goes.

I am of the opinion that most drivers don't particularly want to remain alive

This is my view. I'm always asking, "What is this person's survival strategy?"

And the answer always comes back, "They don't have one, don't need one, don't see the point."
