Hey, Ray. I'm snowbirding it this winter enjoying the southern climes. Was supposed to go home for Christmas but somehow I'm not getting the itch to make the drive.

happy new years to everyone. no football for me so i watched and am watching movies.
ive been playing a decent amount of poker lately as the games have been good in montana.
my health is good and thats most important as we get in old age. each year is one step closer to disaster so doing all the things we like is the key and not doing what we dont unless really needed.

so on to a new year with good results for us all.

its been crazy in montana. 40 plus degree days and virtually no snow in the valley for January. its hard to believe. although it sounds great the trees need a good snow cover and the moisture.
also the deer need snow for insulation when it gets really cold as laying on the bare ground doesnt work so well. but i suspect it will come soon enough.

omaha is much more fun when you win and things go right. since the hands run so close preflop the disappointment factor is really high. its hard for many to keep thier composure and not steam with all the suck outs and things that happen during the hand to make you miserable.

just got back from a florida vacation. cool for florida but nice for montana. i did get to play some cards down there and did fine. there are lots of places to play if you dont play high.

winter is great for poker. good games around and lots of bad players dumping money. you know that green stuff.

it also dumped a foot of snow so that wasnt all that much fun plowing out.

some of the games have been good enough where you can overbet the pot and the value of your hand and get paid off. that is when things are going right. and you can actually rake it in.

the games i played in florida were good. the limits werent real high except for a couple select places. in tampa bay at the seminole hard rock they had at least 2,5 blind holdem. with many pots getting over a 1000. and always action on hands with few not going to the flop. i thought that was the lowest game that was beatable with their 7 dollar drop.

ive had a good run lately with almost no losing sessions in awhile. maybe just luck i guess. mostly picking my spots better and betting harder and making opponents fear my bets.

got broke while licking my chops. raised with 10,10. got called by a calling station who would 100% re-raise if he had a bigger pair.
flop was kk4/ sweet for me. i bet big and got called. 100% he would raise all in if he had me beat.
turn a queen. i bet big again as it was a safe card. he called. now i was sure he had around 88 or 99.
river was a jack i moved the last smaller bit of my chips in and of course he called. but had ace jack to win.
i was then out of the tournament. sometimes we are too smart for our own britches.

tournaments have been okay lately. getting to where i want. even in ones without much in the way of cards. just finding good spots to win without a showdown. thats the secret.

this has been a strange year for the weather in the pacific northwest. winter never came then all of a sudden it stormed in hard. lots of snow in the mountains and ice storms all over.
most that live here are well prepared for it and usually only causes minor problems for those that dont go batty over little things.

we just get those every once in a while and have to live with it.

when you cant get out and play for whatever reasons, next best thing to do is think about hands you played and how you could have improved on them. many times the ones you lost and couldnt have won are the ones that you could have at least saved some serious money with them by playing it differently.

All the towns along I-90 have been hammered with snow for a month. The snow removal has been horrible this year. I'm fish tailing around everywhere I go. The below zero stuff won't go away. I did get to see the sun today though. First time in a few weeks.

yea there is so much more to think about than just the play of a hand or whether you won or lost. most let it go unless there was something unusual in the hand. but many or most could improve each hand they played, looking back at least. but that helps looking forward.
