Hey Ray, just got back from Pendleton. Insane big cash games and slow tournaments with big payouts. Went deep in omaha and seniors but no cash. Made up for it in cash.
I agree with the futility of turbos, the only good thing is no rake on the local games. I won't play them in Seattle. Same payouts after rake, but 3 times as many players to beat.

glad you did okay. michael was over there as well and met my friend shadow from my area. shadow did well i heard in the tournaments.
yea turbos with a big rake isnt so hot.

Saw Michael, outlasted him and other cannnon beach players in senior tournament, so that is my bragging rights although Larry Marshall cashed for 800 in a later tournament. Ran into some Montana players, "Greywolf" out of Billings. Do you know player "Jack Frost"?
11-17-2017 , 02:55 PM
not on grey wolf but certainly jack. known for playing 2,4 for any bet.

Have a great Thanksgiving Ray, you can use some extra meat on your old bones.

thanks. and poker has been good here but the games only last for a shorter time. but plenty of action.

i hate omaha high, limit in a loose game where it is raised a lot early on. all you do is trade money back and forth and add to the rake. very hard to win much over time but each night has exciting swings..

I used to play quite a bit of 4-8 Omaha hi at the Horseshoe. Loose goose of a game. What a rollercoaster ride. Some players in the game said you couldn't win with a pocket pair. I started believing them. It seemed like every time I flopped a set, if the board didn't pair, I was a dead duck to a straight or flush by the river. The game eventually moved to Boulder Station.

Yeah, I've played in a bunch of these games over the years. I'd play them insanely tight pre-. If you see the flop with 30 to 40 small bets in the pot it's almost impossible to find a correct fold with any kind of back door draw to the nuts, and I'd always get suckered in -- so I'd just tighten it way down. I've booked some bizarrely big wins, but found them excruciating to play.

same with me and basically no fun when they are like that.
hands that you play change so much also with the early action so fast.
and the big pairs end up hurting you unless totally connected up with the other two cards.

Years ago I play that silly Omaha hi game at the Peppermill in Reno. I echo Phat's advice. Tight with draws (multiple ones can give you goose bumps) to the nuts or close is about the only way to avoid the eventually soaking and swings. Did not know this game was still spread live. But then people are...........well, people. So I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

heck thats all we play here now in my montana town. its gone from pot limit to 30 limit with 100 overs. i liked the pot limit better, but thats the game of choice .

I should mention that I used to, years ago, play pot-limit Omaha hi. That is a much better game, IMO. I think it was 5/10 blinds - this was 15 years ago or more. This was a half/half game sometimes; Pot-limit Omaha hi and Pot-limit Texas Holdem, we would switch each time the deal made a table circuit.
12-02-2017 , 10:59 PM
thats what we do is switch games each round when the button gets to the dealer. but we have lost most of our regular drop in players that liked holdem.

time for deferred maintenance to be done at my house. got two doors built for horse stalls that are just storage for me. also replacing a trex deck that peeled up. with more of the same, just a new process they use now.
i still have a few miles of wood fence to decide what to do about that is on its last legs.

As in wood posts and wire? wood boards? wood rails? Unless it's cedar posts, I hate wood fencing.
12-09-2017 , 02:29 PM
wood posts with half round rails. standard ranch fencing around here. lasts about 20 to 30 years and rots out unless its all treated lumber. but people with animals enclosed dont like treated as they chew on it and its not good for them of course.

Do high schools still have bonfires? Or do your own bonfire - on New Year's Eve. Invite some friends over, drink some whiskey, dance about the fire, and then shoot off your guns at midnight.

If the wood is still half good and you have a wood stove for heating then it could be firewood. Otherwise just pull it down and let it rot into the soil and return to the earth from whence it came. Then put in steel T-posts and wire. Do it in the Spring - I'll come out and help you.
12-09-2017 , 08:47 PM
dont got no friends, dont drink whiskey anymore, dont dance, dont shoot when g.f. is home.

no more wire fences. i dont have animals. ive taken out about 4 miles of barb wire from the place.

the spikes in the rails are hard to take out, but the wood fence is going away at some point, but may build back just enough for looks and around my barns.
12-11-2017 , 12:24 AM
even a lot of good poker players dont adjust enough when the games go from tight to loose. meaning more players in the pots. they seem to play the same amount of hands and the same type of hands.
12-11-2017 , 09:29 AM
I don't see how they could win this way. If they stay super tight all the time, they might break even, but it seems the whole point is to know what the situation is at any given moment.
12-16-2017 , 06:54 AM
still got at least a mile or more of wire fence/ 3 strands barb wire to deal with and another maybe mile of horse woven wire fence.
i leave the posts in, the ones that have rotted out at ground level go and all the semi good ones are candidates for bird houses, so no moseys to drink my blood this way.

funny game today. flopped a ton of top set aces and kings and didnt make any money overall with them. had at least 7 times. but did scratch out something for the day though. shows how somedays where the cards run over you can be a real bad day. but this time i survived that.
12-22-2017 , 03:55 AM
Ray, what are the biggest games you are able to get to near where you live?
