nothing was in the town. too much going on that weekend and also it was getting late.
no one other than a big motel is picking up the phone at near midnight.

I do this all the time, partly because I'm old and have no taste for a long grind, and partly because a lot of the players don't understand that they have to get their nose out of their iphone and stop me from doing it.

If you took me back in time to when we played through the night in that smoke-fest of Benny's Bullpen, it would probably kill me.

me too, iam am done with the old days. although the players were more colorful and fun to be with.

took a second then came back with two losses in a row in the tournaments.
both of those card dead but managed to last a while and picked decent spots to play but no dice.
03-18-2017 , 04:01 AM
what is lousy is sitting there for a long time with not enough chips and also finding no spots to make a play to get back in the game. that is a problem when the games in tournaments are too loose and the blinds go up fast.

since i cut back on coffee to just in the morning, i find i get tired if playing in the nighttime.
so i eat during the game later on to help stay awake and alert. it works for me.
sometimes junk food sometimes not.
i stay firmly away from anything with high fructose corn syrup.

This is an ongoing battle with me. I really have no business drinking coffee after noon -- when I do I pretty much destroy a night's sleep. I've experimented with eating protein, and it seems to do a good job of picking me up. Junk food will give me a rush for ~30 minutes, but I crash after that.

Luckily poker is almost dead where I live, so it doesn't become a problem all that often.

A lot of us drink too much coffee. Probably should only have about four cups per day.

Intrestin article here: https://authoritynutrition.com/how-m...uld-you-drink/

4 seems like a lot but back in the east coast i remember many that drank 20 or more cups a day.

but a cup to me is a big cup of coffee not a measuring cup.

my hometown game just cut back the h,o,s game from pot limit to 5 to 30. although most play 100 immediate overs. makes for a smaller game overall but still can get quite feisty.

hard cold and snowy winter this year but it seems i have more turkeys and deer than ever before. i dont understand that, but my place has lots of cover and food sources for them.

the birds are all around even though it is still cold and looking for nesting sites, and the swallows are fighting over their bird houses. looking out the window is nice.

sold another piece of real estate today. with prices up and buyers with money or able to get loans it is a good time to cash in some things. especially real estate holdings that are not bringing in enough to justify their being.

it is frustrating as around here everyone in the big game wants to play just 4 card poker.
so virtually no no limit holdem going over 1,2 blind games in the valley. so i am stuck playing omaha and split all the time.

spring time around here and now some big thunderstorms brewing. spring and it seems summer have the biggest ones. but the springtime storms are more ferocious i think.
not alot of rain comes with them though as it must be the drier air.

still it is wet and the ground is saturated this year.

made a bad calling of a check raise from a real tight no action player yesterday. i am still mad about it. i wasnt getting good enough odds for the last card draw. but tried to put enough doubt into my mind that i had a chance. as he rarely check raises. and there might be more to it than he just had the nuts. but really knowing i didnt have a good enough chance to win.
that is the difference from the winners and losers. i dont want to fall into the loser category so have to watch out for those kind of foolish plays that most justify for some obscure reason.

funny tonight my game had some action players in it but not much action from them. at least no big pots developed all night. one of those days i guess but i was card dead but managed to win a tiny bit anyway. so i guess i got lucky a little bit.
there is a 250 buyin tournament tomorrow in town so maybe ill go down to it. although i am trying not to play more than 3 times a week.

finally getting some days in the 60's here in montana. grass is getting green and trees are budding out.

2 bald eagles are back to their nest near the house and across the river from me. i got wood ducks on my pond mating along with a few others as well.
this year was the 2nd wettest spring in history here. nothing but rain and the rivers are high when this month they should be low still.

looks like since the h,o,s game has gotten weaker we are finally getting back to playing holdem at the game i play in. fine with me as i dont like 4 card much anymore. naturally since its new again the game was really good with plenty of action. although not as many big pots as omaha but the pots were much bigger than they should have been for a holdem game.
05-09-2017 , 02:49 AM
good holdem game again. it looks like we are moving away from the 4 card games and back to holdem. new players are already coming in and gambling.
certainly not as many pots over say 500$ but still plenty enough to make the game fun.
05-09-2017 , 02:56 AM
its too bad as my river has risen so much from the spring runoff it is right at the banks.
this is the earliest ever the run off has peaked near the flood stage. although it may not have peaked and may go much higher.

but what hurts is many of the goose nests have flooded out before the goslings could hatch. as i see pairs of them floating around without a nest.

The game just won't die. In 2000, I was sure I'd seen my last nlhe game. It has more lives than a cat.
05-09-2017 , 10:55 PM
i think part of nlh surviving is that people got to play it better online so some of it moved to live as well.
so more players feel comfortable playing nl and are better players so they dont go broke as quick.

i have to watch out when i am in my driveway. since it has warmed up the garter snakes come out in the morning or evening to lay on the warm asphalt. and after dark sometimes western toads do the same.
i have to be careful as i dont want to run one over. both are beneficial and part of nature.
05-17-2017 , 02:13 AM
my local game i play in is falling apart and i dont know if he can save it or not. it might be too late. i hope not.
