i hear perry is still around. he came to the wsop this year i guess.
over the years i have gotten to play with many of the alaskans. all nice guys to be with for sure.

oregon has a similar law with poker games. and they have some very good ones, although not quite as big.

montana has good poker games but allows a big rake and over the years the games have gotten much smaller as the pool of money dries up.

my last two tournaments i did build up my chips nicely but as the fast rise in blinds, soon they were in danger. then a dead period and a few smallish pots gone and then the desperate stand must come in. i guess i picked the wrong times for them as i left broke.
it is important to learn when to push those chips that still have power to fold out people.
but it is also when you get wiped out when you run into something or someone that calls right or wrong.

with the weather cooling of i am off fishing as much as i can.

no fun and poor fishing when the weather and water is warm. fall is my favorite season by far.
Made my permanent move to my property in Oregon. May start up my blog again in this forum but wanted to comment. No bears but lots of deer. They love the apples from my trees. Had to prune them last year but only the gravenstein tree produced a lot of apples. They are great for pie and apple crisp. Have about 2 cords of wood stacked and drying by the shop, will be ready for next year. Cut up some more alder yesterday that also needs split and stacked to dry.

Fall is the best time of year. I hope to finally get in a full season of trout, steelhead, and salmon fly-fishing this year, for the first time in way too long.

Need a good rain for a week or so to get the rivers up and in shape for the fall fishing but it will come. Enjoying the sunshine for now and can have coffee on my back patio in the warm sun every morning. Nice way to start out the day.

Come spring I will be planting a large garden. Will plan this out in the wintertime.

Love your the comments on tournament play; always right on the button and sound advice.

the salmon are in all the bays now. especially north coast. silvers are fairly thick for a year there werent supposed to be any. fin cuts only though. in warrenton near astoria at social security beach this week most guys have been bringing in a fish casting spinners from shore.
better get your pole in gear as its happening buddy.

get your fruit trees which you might want planted as it takes a few years and you will regret waiting. i know ive made that mistake a few times.
down where you are i bet you can get a few hazel nuts going. that would be cool.
i usually order a 25 pound bag in the fall from one of the willamette valley places.

Why did you have to prune the deer?

I think I just pruned the fruit trees but memories are notoriously faulty so I could be wrong.

Pruning deer is an old redneck custom in rural areas. Culling would be a more accurate term but ignorant rednecks have a limited vocabulary and word sense. An enduring feature of their subculture.

Recently I heard a midnight shot by my place. A single rifle shot, plain and clear. Then complete silence. Ah-huh I said to myself as I rolled over in bed - one less deer in the neighborhood. When in High School I heard numerous stories of the midnight spotlighting and other methods to get the needed venison into the freezer to supplement the poorer working classes and their dietary requirements.

Mr. Zee can verify all the above, not that he engages in such activities but he certainly knows of them.
09-20-2016 , 10:35 PM
yep one shot late at night means one deer got shot or in the rare case someones husband or a racoon in the garbage can.

i believe zeno has confused some with his use of the word prune. to educate those that have not mastered the English language yet, a prune is just a plum. and a plum is a fruit from a fruit tree. now that said. poor zeno obviously was throwing his plums at the deer to scare them away from his trees. hence he was pruning the deer.
as there is no possible reason for him to throw the plums at the trees, so he was left to throw them at the deer. but not right.

I ask for forgiveness. I think like many Chinese people do - words are all verbal and sound context to me.

finally fall is in the air. the trees are turning and the mornings are cool. this is my favorite time of the year. the fish are biting and it fun to be outdoors.

also the poker games get better as the action players are starting to come inside instead of golfing or whatever they do in the summer. you still have all the regulars but with the addition of some lesser seen faces the games are better.

Do the trees turn clockwise or counterclockwise?

What I enjoy most are the vine maples, their leaves turn a vibrant orange to red in the fall. Aspen and Maple leaves also become grand colors.

Finally getting some rain - but not enough yet to get many salmon in the rivers. Need to get my fishing gear out and go through everything.

salmon are moving up the deeper rivers from the bays. landed a nice coho yesterday, native so back he went. what i am seeing is tons of jacks and that means next year might be great. 3 inches of rain recently on the north coast.

as for turning,, written by pete seeger

To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time to every purpose, under heaven
10-08-2016 , 03:54 AM
oh and some think the byrds wrote it.

but back to poker. the last two tournaments ive played i managed to get most of the way through the field then as the fast blinds caught up i got it in both times with him drawing to his kicker and lost, otherwise i would have been up in chips. that's tournaments. play a long time and flip with a good edge and hope to keep going.

zeno, two or three big storms are coming your way, so batten down the hatches my friend. you are getting flooding and probably power outages. as you know what is in store for you this next week starting today i expect you will be huddled up in a corner with a book.
10-13-2016 , 04:53 AM
poker has its ups and downs with the so called run of the cards. even though cards dont run or remember what happened before. keeping your mind together and not letting what happened in the past will at least give you a chance to survive those periods where you dont win a pot for awhile.

True enough. Just started last night and going strong this morning. Expected to increase through the weekend. Wind gusts of ~60 mph are predicted for Friday-Sat. Good for the rivers as they need blown out, especially at their mouths, to get the fish streaming in.

Smart of me to get all my burning done just two days ago. Had a good bonfire for most of one day and part of the next.

Winter is here!
10-13-2016 , 10:42 PM
oregon winter is like montana summer. your getting more of it on the south coast over the north but the second storm is moving up so the north coat might get blasted on that.
10-20-2016 , 03:51 PM
the biggest problem in tournaments is where the blinds go up fast and most have small amounts of chips compared to the blinds left. so when it hits that point you find yourself getting your money in in spots you normally wouldnt even think about playing. and your final outcomes depends on winning maybe like two in a row of these to keep you in the running. that is the big luck part that even playing well cant take out of the tournaments.

of course if you stay ahead of the others all throughout the tournament you can escape many of the showdown hands where you are just putting your money in and hoping someone behind you doesnt wake up with a dominating hand against you.

a nice herd of elk came on my property yesterday one big bull and another small one with about ten cow elk along. i tried not to scare then off so they might stick around. didnt want them to get into a spot where they get shot as its hunting season.
11-13-2016 , 04:55 PM
been playing a little hos. pot limit. games can be good as pots get built automatically.
this time of the year though many games break early with hunting season and the end of the fall season.

watched the big moon tonight. once i a lifetime thing probably but not so spectacular you would lose out if you missed it.
we had a warm October so the animals got to put some fat on before winter and thats good.
also no snow yet so hunters arent getting too much action yet, so good for the game bad for the hunters.

Hey Ray, I'll be passing through Montana on highway 90. If I could stop at 2 places to play poker, preferably cash games, where would I go? Do games only run at night?

Any other non-poker recommendations on the 90 during december appreciated also.

yes only at night. in kalispell we play m,w,f 2 pm till the game breaks 4 hours or till closing you never know. biggest game in the state, h,o,s. 300 min. buyin. 2 hours north of 90 on93.

casino in spokane washington has games. snoqualamie monday or tuesday night near seattle has a big game so does muckelshoot.near tacoma.

billings, bozeman, and missoula have games. mostly 1,2 no limit or maybe a 2 to 20 spread or 10,20 limit game.
billings may have a day game but days games in montana arent very much. other small towns will have or may have small games at night, high rake.
11-22-2016 , 07:23 AM
also stopping at the museum of the rockies in bozemen is a great stop. got a bunch of dinosaur stuff.
be prepared for possible stop over in storms as we get some good ones that can make the trip really slippery sometimes.
