money is good. no money is bad.
04-27-2021 , 05:05 PM
I've noticed that while all my friends think they are in their golden years, I think I'm on my gun lap. Plenty of stuff I still want to do. Poker has never been an obsession or profession--just something to do while I'm doing something else. In the past it was like a mother who will always take you in and give you a meal--and I imagine in the future it will return to that.

Did you read that in the Bible somewhere?

I’ve done fairly well and have accumulated enough good money to accomplish lots of bad things. Fun times ahead for me! Same for you?

don't disagree, but true happiness in life is not this polarized
at what cost is the act of getting money?
at what cost is the act of living without money?
financial homeostasis is the goal
04-27-2021 , 08:17 PM
same as you.

as far as whats in the bible i dont read fiction books. never read it.
04-27-2021 , 08:19 PM
i dont think so. i cant see anyone without any money at all being happy.

most have their own level of happiness and money doesnt change that too much but helps.
04-27-2021 , 08:42 PM
wealth and money are not the same thing
04-28-2021 , 07:19 PM
monetary wealth and money is basically the same thing. and one can be converted into the other.

money has been said it is a medium of exchange but really it is a storage of value.
04-28-2021 , 08:03 PM
if you have zero liability and infinite happiness, does money really enter into the equation?
04-28-2021 , 08:54 PM
yep. you have to eat. and it takes so much work then just to survive so you cant have infinite happiness. just a dream.
04-28-2021 , 10:35 PM
As it turns out, money is just a government construct used to facilitate taxation.
04-29-2021 , 06:45 AM
Money buys happiness necessities, but there are diminishing happiness returns as one accumulates money. Did I miss something?
04-29-2021 , 11:14 AM
nope chas you hit the nail squarely on the head
04-29-2021 , 11:20 AM
eons ago before real money, govts. took part of your crops or goods for payment of taxes.

similar to the wealth tax being propose by some politicians. who feel they can spend it better than you.

poker is getting better all the time. games are improving in most places and many more are showing up to play. hope it stays that way.

This reminds me of a famous quote from Mark Twain. When asked about the proverb "The love of money is the root of all evil" Twain replied "I thought it was the lack of money."

played 2,5 at pbkc in florida. what a waste it was. the games were okay but the waste was that was the biggest game i could get in.

i tried to start a bigger one but they started a big omaha game and wouldnt let me in. no one knew me i was just and old man stranger to them. florida allows private games in the public casinos.

then they did the same thing in a big no limit holdem game. only 7 players playing i walked up and asked for a seat and they told me i couldnt play and the dealer immediately locked up the last two empty seats.

i understand having private games as it works in some spots. but not when all of your bigger games in the casino are private.

both games went for only maybe two hours and broke up. the management sucks if they continue those practices. of course they are getting greased someway or another and may also think thats the only way to get a big game.

all that does it limits the people that have bigger money to lose and become regulars that get chased away. and may end up playing every day in their smaller games.

i understand not wanting some players in that ruin the games. but management can take care of that. this is in a place that has no other bigger games to choose from.
anyway i likely wont be back. and wont recommend anyone going there that wants bigger than 2,5 with a 7 dollar rake.

Come to my house Ray and we can play some heads up. My $100,000 of art work can stand in for collateral. Or- Bring Phat Mack and we can have a trio.

i dont want your self made 100000 art works. mack wont come, he has too much common sense for that.
i might drive the motorhome on down though this summer maybe.

i might require you to put in a concrete pad for my motorhome and full hookups.
i would like a firepit nearby as well for smores. your bottle of scotch in the cabinet will do.
and my ice made with filtered water.
thanks for the offer.

redeye may drive over as he has no life.

don't require zeno to put in a concrete pad for your RV. we both know it will be 2" thick at the most with chicken wire in the middle. he already has the fire pit, which is why i know what to expect from the RV pad.

i'd be more than happy to donate a few ducats to the likes of you and zeno and mack if you make the company and entertainment worth it.

it would be a great time i suspect.

we would at least be going home with lots of artwork after having drunk all his booze.
05-13-2021 , 07:50 PM
fairly confident i would be the youngster in this clutch, but someone is destined to be the runt of the litter, correct?
if we play things right i suspect mack would be more than willing to serenade us with his bluesy harp for an extended period of time, and my primary goal is to piss on zeno's siding at least twice before retiring to the tent i pitched in his yard.

where do i sign up?

These private games in public cardrooms are a bad idea. If someone wants to start a game and hand the floor a list of people, I don't have a problem with it, but as soon as there's an open seat, it should be available to anybody. This private gave business was started by people who didn't know what they were doing and were desperate for business.

The funny thing is, I'm a terrible nlhe player. The bigger games died locally in the early 90s, so I'm playing a style that's at least 30 years old, but I'm locked out of most of the local games higher than 2-5. I'd rather fly to Vegas or L.A.

poker is good in montana. the games have lots of new faces as we are growing fast with the deserters from other states. pots are plenty big and seems like everyone has money.
