It's nice to have supportive friends.

I tend to only roll with extremely nice, intensely bright people, in that order. My social gambit comes down to - be nice and sincere to me and I'll be loyal like a dog.

Tomorrow is effectively the Online Chess World Championship finals. It differs from the other world championships (Classical/Rapid/Blitz) because it is a culmination of a yearlong tour of online and live play. It's like the equivalent of durrrr vs. Viktor Blom in 2009. It is something to be excited for.

I haven't written about chess in a while. It's something I'm very passionate about despite being a natural born loser at the game. And I think it could be a good place to start writing again.

Wesley So, one of America's trio of upper echelon players, is taking on the best to ever do it, Magnus Carlsen, the day after winning a $51,000 single armageddon game versus Uzbekistan's finest, a future hall-of famer named Nodirbek Abdusattorov. They will play several consecutive hours of rapid chess over the course of two days until one player is forced to resign. There will probably be an armageddon game, which has quickly become the most exciting format of chess.

What is an armageddon game? It's basically overtime, a tie-breaker, where white has to win, but black can draw. Since black tends fo be the advantageous choice, opponents make bids on the allotted time, the lower bid being awarded black. In other words, the world's best are soon to shake hands and play chess for the highest stakes.

I have contacted a good friend of mine who happens to be a chess master. In the coming days I will share our collaboration on the topic. Irregardless, Hans Niemann is a beast at the game of chess.

Tang has one of the more impressive minds that I've ever noticed. For example, during his stream one day chat started asking him to perform arithmetic while he was simultaneously playing another Grandmaster in hyper-bullet (30-second chess). He answered the questions near-instantly, the like of multiplying 3-digit numbers, while crushing the other dude in chess.

This type of ability puts someone on the Von-Neumann spectrum for genius. Which is potentially the highest spectrum there is.

I asked Abe Limon what makes a genius, and he said geniuses invent. My opinion is that geniuses simply do what others cannot.

How do you cope with all of the sadness in the world? I tend to reflect, distract, and then distance my self as far as possible.

Ultimately, when I sit down and process the multiplicative effect of one person's plight extending to so many other people it makes me sad.

Most of the sadness in the world magically disappeared when I stopped watching/intaking any sort of news. I get a small amount from here and a small amount from social media, but that's it. For the most part my social media only contains family, national parks, and nookie girls, so there's not much of the outside world seeping in from there. I don't need to know what's going on in Ukraine as I don't intend to join forces with them. My knowing about it doesn't help anyone, it would only make me sad and/or mad. Same with Israel. Same with any other place or any other situation. I guess I am Isolationism personified.

I'm assuming you have a rich life full of great things and people. I mostly base that on you being a great guy.... but maybe if I had more stuff going on, it would insulate me better from agonizing feelings.

I've watched footage of him practicing guitar and I realized I play it similarly. I listened to a lot of Limp Bizkit as a youth so it wasn't surprising, but it is pretty cool to see someone who's world class at their craft reflecting the same message as me.

Ran hot at seeing famous pros tonight at a particular casino. First I saw Koon, which is like getting dealt a straight flush. The night was already a success.
