Me 6'4" Jim about 4'11". In this shot with Costas I am hunched down quite a bit.

I was eye to eye with Hulk Hogan when I met him.

Re: PP talks about TV and Video Production

Worked UFC 165 in Toronto last Saturday switching the in-house screens. Long day. Call time 8am ET didn't get out of there until 4am Sunday then had to head to the airport at 7am.

Setup before doors opened:

Some of the fine snacking available at the arena:

Didn't try it but now wish I gave it a shot.

Main Event shots:

Tech note: The camera suspended above the ring in the middle left of the picture is connected to the lighting grid and provides a lot of flexibility to swoop and fly around the ring from ring level to lighting grid level for some really dramatic shots. It is basically a suspended jib camera with a bit more complicated setup of controls and counter balances.

Got to try out my Global Entry/Known Traveler Program for the first time when I went though US Customs. Instead of dealing with a Customs agent, you go for a kiosk which scans your passport, & fingerprints. You don't have to fill out the usual entry questionnaire. Answer them on the kiosk with a one click "No to all". It prints a receipt that you hand to an agent on the way out and you are done. No line. Sweet.

Re: PP talks about TV and Video Production

Oh hi dere Mike, I figure you would be a good person to ask this.

I have .mp4 cell phone video files from when I recorded some bands in Austin earlier this year, I also have .wav audio files I recorded on a hand held digital recorder. The cell phone vid audio is completely terrible ofc, so what I need to do is strip the audio from the video files, and cut in and line up the good audio to the video. Do you know how I should go about this?

I think the most flexible and easy to learn video editing software for the PC is Sony Vegas. I use the pro versions but there is also a prosumer version for about $130. You can check them out and dl a demo try to accomplish your task here:
http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/vegassoftware

What makes it so flexible is the ability to mix different format media on the timeline without much effort. There are 100's of tutorial videos for it on youtube so you can search "Sony Vegas" and whatever you are trying to do and a bunch of tutorials will come up and explain how to do it.

ty sir, I might try to check it out on my mom's computer.

Do you know of something on Linux? Or perhaps know of any open source programs that maybe aren't as good as vegas but still usable?

Is there a technical term for what I'm trying to do that I should look for in program feature lists?

Re: PP talks about TV and Video Production

ok ok ok, last question!

How much do you estimate a professional would charge me to fix the audio in the videos? I have like three half hour to hour long videos of bands playing.

Re: PP talks about TV and Video Production

Most will charge by the hour for the amount of time to complete the project. Rates will vary widely. $50-200 per hour. You might be able to get someone to quote a flat rate.

Good stuff I have worked with all those guys throughout the years.
Funny how this business is taken as such a serious and artful craft when people at home don't really care about much more than just watching the game.

Re: PP talks about TV and Video Production

I had no idea...have we worked together lol? I was a segment producer for quite a few poker shows over the past ten years, including ESPN's WS coverage, Poker at the Plaza, and Poker After Dark.

Also, do you know/work with Marty Corwin? He's a live sports director - mostly with boxing and the NBA. We both work with Top Rank Boxing these days. Good guy and a good friend.

I know Marty very well and have worked on several of his shows. I was the TD on Ultimate Poker Challenge for all the seasons shot at the Plaza. Also worked several PAD and HSP shows.

Did you play in the crew tournament that Johnny Pham joined in?

Re: PP talks about TV and Video Production

After moving from editing to multi-camera switching, in 2004 my first TD gig in Vegas was switching a season of Rita Rudner's talk show "Ask Rita". This was shot on one of the stages in the now defunct MGM Grand Amusement Park.

One of the show's guests was the late David Brenner. Here is a photo I took that they used as a promo shot.

Several years later in 2008 Rita recorded a stand up special for PBS which the same production company hired me to TD and help crew. Rita Rudner Live From Las Vegas.

I was linked into this thread.
I never knew it existed (and still don't know where I am).

Very cool thread.

Going back to read the entire saga.
