Vitaly had mentioned potentially going to wager at our favorite equine track, which also has electronic poker. Went out with the family for dinner, threw the ball around and watched 2 periods of the hockey game with my son, and did some work, before I got the summons.
Put myself on the list for 2/5 and 1/2 planning to play a quick session. Got on 2/5 right away and in 2 hands within 10 minutes I was down $150. Raised with KJo on the button and BB and 76 on a 1077 flop and I river a J.
In a limped pot I have Ad4d, flop a straight draw and turn the flush draw against a flopped set. EZ game! Vitaly comes over to tell me he is "running like God". He had KK versus an opponents QQ and is up $200.
I stick around at 2/5 waiting for 1/2 and finally manage to get myself even. I sit down at a relatively standard table, and notice a couple of pretty decent players.
To my right is the table LAG who opens every hand. I call him down on an AA79J board with an Ace and quickly find myself up $100. The Captain decided to table change away from me and I play 2 orbits before deciding I miss the Captain!
Vitaly's table is loud and rambunctious but it is full so I can't move over. Luckily a seat opens at the captains table.
I have AsJs when he makes it $10 and a couple of guys call. I raise and he calls. Flops comes 10d7c3c. I fire and he calls. Turn is the 10c. I check and he bets and now I am stuck $30
.
Some uneventful hands later and I finally manage to get up tangling against the captain. He triple barrels me and I call him down super light and win a big pot. Table is shocked and captain decides to call it a night. I am sad but now up around $150.
A seat opens up at Vitaly's table and I take the opportunity to join him. Vitaly has a run of bad luck as his two pair makes the table bullies (TB) straight and soon Vitaly is stuck $150. This villain is on my right while his "powered up" friend is on my left.
We talk about the richest people on earth and I try to enlighten the table and let them know that Africa has a place like Fort Knox but instead of gold they store elephant tusks.
It's limped around to TB and he raises pretty large. I have 7c7d and call. Flop comes Qh8h3c. I check TB bets and I call. Turn is a 6h. I check TB fires and I tank call. River is the Kd. I check TB fires a huge bet. I call. He has 104o and I scoop a massive pot.
At this point Vitaly jumps in and asks TB. "Did you misread your hand?".
Table has been boisterous and goes dead silent after the hand. After an orbit Vitaly says "why is it so quiet"?
TB now decided to play the jam stack game and I snap him off twice more.
I'm sitting on around $800 and gradually work my way up to $991. Vitaly has worked himself back to even and then goads me into staying and trying to break $1k.
At this point Gomer Pyle joins the table and buys in for $60 and makes the most awful plays. He is down to his last couple of dollars and jams it all in. We get the table to start chanting "send him home" but no one can call him.
He has $3.75 in front of him and shoves. 4 other guys call and I look at 44. I think about raising, but the table is having fun so decide to call. Big mistake.
Flop comes Qd4d5c. Friend of TB beside me checks and I bet $20 into a pot of $25. He makes it $125. He has 80 behind. It's a pretty strong bet And I think about it and jam. He snap calls with Ad2d. Turn 2c river 3h
I lose a $600 pot and rack up shortly after. Finished up almost 2 buyins and the run good continues.
Looking to play Saturday, haven't decided where yet...
