Just saw Sicario, fantastic, so much left to see this month, Black Mass, The Martian, The Walk, and several more I'm forgetting at the moment. Not sure how many I'll get to, but The Martian is a must.

Didn't weigh, on a mini vaca in destin right now for a family wedding. Probably either stayed the same or gained 1 lb, ran 3 miles a few days.

I've been meaning to post this for a few weeks but keep forgetting, nothing that important just an observation I wanted to share.

We've been re-watching The Sopranos and it's just as good as I remembered, an amazing dark family drama set in the mobster world. But what I had forgotten was how freaking funny it is. I remember the show for the big dramatic moments, but rewatching it now I've noticed my wife and I cracking up several times during pretty much every single episode.

Anyway, it's a great show and if you somehow haven't seen it yet please do, or if like me you're several years removed from your initial viewing I highly recommend diving back in for a return visit.

In personal news we had a great trip to Destin, perfect weather, nice time with the family, and a beautiful wedding. But on the last day my wife decided to zip line (I passed as heights aren't my friend) and when getting unhooked the worker didn't secure a metal buckle right and it swung down and smacked her in the face. She's fine other than a nasty looking black eye, but it was an unpleasant way to end the trip to say the least, as we spent several hours at the ER and now she has to deal with the black eye which is never pleasant for anyone, but especially so for a woman IMO.

In more pleasant news I'm heading to Chicago this weekend for work, which happens to coincide with the Hammond WSOP Circuit event so I'm going to try a couple satellites on Friday and hopefully play the main on Saturday/Sunday.

I'm still alive at dinner break, 64 left, I have 220k, about 18 BB's when we start back, just need to find a double and I'm back in it. Been a roller coaster day. I started short, shoved and had it folded around 6 or 7 times in 1st couple hours, then found some hands and built it up. Lost a big pot to Kenny Nguyen when he called a big river bet bluff from me on the money bubble. Then sat to Kelly Minkin's right at a table with a lot of good players, had a nice suckout there with QQ vs AA all-in pre, then got moved to a table where there were 4 limpers to a flop several times, lost a big 1 there with 99 vs KQ all-in after a low flop, Q on the turn. Anyway, that's the day in a nutshell, hopefully I'll have some good news to post later tonight.

Finished 42nd for $6600, depressed at the moment, but considering how little poker I actually play compared to the vast majority of the field I know I should be happy and I'm sure my mindset will b much more positive about the experience within a day or 2.

That is GOOD. It is a tourney. You finished in the money not so far from FT. and money in itself is also nice.

Thanks Lapka.

This isn't a poker blog, but it's not really any kind of blog these days so I'm going to post a mini report of hands from the tournament, I didn't take notes so some details will be guesses but here goes:

Missed level 1, sat down at a good starting table, seemed to be mostly amateurs like me, for the record I'd rate myself as a slightly above average NLHE tourney player (but I'm probably biased). Nothing exciting through the 1st level, started with 20K, I have about 23K at 75-150.

Folds to me in the Hijack (I'm way out of touch with poker lingo, but I think that's the seat before the Cutoff) with 55, I raise to 400, folds to an older guy in the BB with about 15K who 3 bets to 1000, I call.

Flop T 5 2 Rainbow

He bets 1300, I raise to 3500, he calls.

Turn K

Check Check

River T

His hands start shaking and he says something along the lines of "I won this seat so it's nothing to me if I bust out" and quickly goes all-in for approx 11K. The speech and shaky hands kind of stunned me and made me hesitate for about 10 seconds before calling. He flipped AT and I was up to 38K.

Played well and ran well over the next couple hours, made a couple hands and built it up to about 70K by the start of level 5.

Went card dead levels 5-7, several opens got 3 bet and I had to fold, didn't connect with any flops, etc, and was down to 45K when our table was broken down.

I'm now realizing this is going to take multiple posts, more to come today/tomorrow ...

Level 8
50-250-500
45K Chips

Sat down at a new table and discovered fairly quickly there were some good players, remained card dead through level 12, every open was either called and I had to give up on the flop or turn or was 3-bet pre-flop and I had to fold.

Level 13
200-800-1600
26K Chips

Over the next 3 levels I either open shoved or 3-bet shoved 7 or 8 times and it was folded around each time. The last time I was in the SB with KK, mid-position opened, button called, I shoved and it felt like the perfect spot to get called light, didn't happen, but it was still a nice pot with about 15 minutes left in the night.

At the end of level 15 I bagged 57,500 which would be 19 BB's when we started day 2 on Sunday.

Last weekend was my birthday which was a good excuse for me to eat like crap the entire weekend, I guess I made up for it enough by walking 12 miles Monday, running 3 miles tue and wed and eating well mon-thur.

Making a major effort to not gain anything over these next 6 weeks which I'm sure is the toughest stretch for most everyone as far as eating and exercise, my goal is to finish the year at 200, then make my push for 190 in 2016.

The next 2 weeks will be a major test, regular weekend, then traveling for work for a couple days, then traveling to see the extended family over thanksgiving weekend, then 1st week of the month craziness, if I make it though +1 or better I'll be very proud.
