Welcome to the blog of me and my personal brand.

Obviously the world is changing faster than ever before. With the rise of digital, opportunities are everywhere. Brands need to get with the times and start thinking out of the box. I am confident I can change the way a lot of businesses work by providing innovative thoughts and value-added activities and I would like this blog to be about my journey.

ABOUT ME:

I recently got out of school with a finance degree, but I really don’t have much else (from a résumé perspective). No job currently. I’m not looking in the finance industry so the degree isn’t even too valuable at this moment. (I am glad I learned about finance though, it will definitely be of value to me)

What I would like to get into is Big Data. I am great with analyzing numbers/data and know that I can be valuable to lots of companies. The good thing about Big Data is that it’s affecting all industries and ideally I’d like to be a consultant of sorts. Most of the jobs I apply to I don’t hear back simply because I don’t have any experience in the respective fields (nevermind how outdated the recruiting/interview process is these days which I'd be more than happy to talk about).

MY PERSONAL BRAND:

This is what I really want this thread to be about.

I see opportunity everywhere. Everything I do I am always thinking how to improve the experience behind it. I am interested in an array of brands and know that I could provide great insight for all of them. I believe I can create a brand that will be wildly successful.

Short term, my mission is creative solutions for products, brands, and services. I would love to work with individual brands to essentially provide value-added activities. Long term, I want to create a trusted brand. Eventually, when a person sees my logo, I want them to automatically associate it with an improved activity within a brand.

I want to create my personal brand in which I work with brands to produce:
-Social Content
-(Real-Time) Marketing
-Advertising & Promotions
-Analytics
-Mobile Solutions
-Etc.

As of right now, I want to get the organization right. Which platforms to use, how to effectively reach out to brands, legal thoughts, etc. How do I get these brands to trust that I have ideas that will provide value?

THIS THREAD:

-My Brand

-Twitter
I think Twitter is one of my best bets in reaching out to my desired audience (there are countless benefits to Twitter). I don’t have too many tweets on my brand account so far, mainly because I’m not sure which strategy to use. At first I was just throwing ideas to brands in hopes of getting heard but that’s not going to work. I’m thinking now I might start to ask “data science” type questions (ie. for Pandora Radio, what % of people immediately skip songs?). These questions follows my narrative of creativity and analytics related notions and highlight potential strengths/weaknesses in the business. Open to ideas though.

-Tumblr
-For article purposes. Unfortunately I have basically no audience right now so it’s a little depressing as I feel like I’m talking to myself. Only have a few posts up there aorn but

-I have also started writing short articles about anything technology on a smallish big data/analytics news board but I might discontinue because it doesn’t seem like it reaches out the way they said it did, and I am also limited in the way I can write.

-Technology
-Big Data/Internet of Things/etc.
-News/Articles
-Brands, technology, industries, whatever. The ultimate purpose of this thread is for discussion about these topics.

Guess I'll start...

Here is an article that just popped up on my Twitter feed. Highlights the need for (creative) content.

http://adage.com/article/media/agenc...ontent/244264/

Snippet:
Quote:
As demand grows for talented directors and feature-film-like content (marketer-funded and -branded webisodes or documentaries, for example) studios are gaining direct access to brands and bringing in more freelance creative strategists.
Quote:
"The need for constant content to feed the social machine, to pop up on organic search and to establish media channels means [marketers] now have a constant need for fresh content. Some clients are looking internally for that and some are looking externally."
I wish there were some kind of site where you could pitch ideas to brands, that's what these guys (and I) need.

As I said in my OP, my résumé sucks. My degree is really the only thing of any worth on there but luckily the whole idea of the résumé is changing. The standard "education, past jobs, and extracurriculars" just doesn't cut it anymore. Maybe in certain fields this standard still applies but for someone like me, who wants to get into new, untapped fields, I've got to be different.

For example, lets say I made parody accounts on Twitter that obtained millions of followers. This would be valuable in the sense that I can produce something that gains the attention of so many people and I would certainly highlight that on a résumé.

Or maybe I worked with a brand and produced some type of awesome real time marketing ad. The best example I can think of was Buffalo Wild Wings earlier this year. Remember the overtime commercials? I think it was during March Madness this year when one of the games just ended regulation in a tie (and was about to go into OT) when the first commercial to pop up was BWW essentially saying "this OT is brought to you by us". It was fantastic. If anyone can think of a better example I'm all ears but I don't think anything has topped that.

Anyways being able to say that "I was responsible for such and such content" is my idea of a résumé.

It also sort of shocks me that when applying to companies, there aren't initial tests/quizzes used to weed out people, and it's mostly just submitting résumés. I feel like at the very least some sort of Wonderlic should be used, but maybe that's just me

Anyone heard of a Phablet? I guess it's just considered to be a hybrid phone/tablet but I think companies are off the mark. What I really want is a tablet that I can put in my pocket. A phone that has the ability to fold out (twice) into a tablet-sized screen would be a game changer imo.

Reminds me of an article I read a while ago about weird being a good thing.

Phablet is a huge goof by the manufacturers to allow such an unattractive term to persist for their products. Smartlet would be better imo. No, Smartab is the play actually.
