Re: My blog

If you try posting in politics and aren't abnormally passionate about some outlandish core value or don't enjoy endlessly arguing with that type of poster, you quickly realize that place is not for you and don't come back.

Re: My blog

I lurk in PU sometimes, because it's as if they put these signs on their foreheads that instantly give away their most basic thoughts. You don't have to read very far to pretty much get the gist of what they believe. One time, I tried posting a lighthearted missive from my dog, hoping to change the mood. That went over well...

I've found some Nixon content recently in Politics Unchained, to my surprise and delight.

Re: My blog

Every week on pop music channels there are new songs that sound eerily simmilar to most other auto-tuned pop songs about partying, often these songs include a chorus of people chanting noises like "oh ooh oh" and similar noises. Do you think the music artists that sing these type of songs know that the music is **** and are like "Man, I' can't believe people are buying this ****, but who am I to complain? I'm rich and famous!"? Or do you think they sit back and think "Man this is great song that I have, I'll be shocked if this doesn't make number one"?

Re: My blog

The trick to the politics forum is to read the good threads but never post. It's all about entertainment value. Although to be fair the optimal strategy may be to only open every 4 years or so

Re: My blog

Is it normal for a person to want to take their own life rather than have something that's out of their control do it for them? For a number of years now I have been fantasizing with the idea of taking mine before an age related dissese that I can't control does the job for me. The strange thing is, I'm not depressed and I actually enjoy life very much at the moment, I just like the thought of ending it just as it's about to go downhill.

I think about it everyday and for some strange reason I find comfort in the thought that I have a choice to end it when bad things start to happen, like, I constantly read the news and see people suffering from stuff like cancer and negatives that occur as you age like getting old and losing your youthfullness. I feel for people in dire situations such as dealing with terminal illnessess and it makes me upset, but I'm not scared because I know I will end my life if I'm ever in the same boat. I don't know how this will sound to people, but it feels like I can cheat life's negatives when times get tough by killing myself. When stars die young everyone's like "they died so young, how tragic" but I tend to feel jealous of them, as in a weird kind of way they cheated life by leaving on a high note in their prime. I want family and friends to remember me as I am now, not an old-age man with a ton of physical ailments.

The reason I've shared this is because I don't understand how suicide can be on my mind all the time since I love life and maybe it's just the thought of the life that I have at the moment becoming worse that upsets me?

Do you believe in God and an afterlife?

Re: My blog

Uno, you sound pretty normal to me. It's not unusual to not want to go through old age/sickness, especially if we've witnessed it happen to someone else. I will say that old age gives back a few few things, even while admitting that it takes away from us as well.

My mind is considerably more forgiving than it was when I was young, I don't expect that I will be saving the world each day I get up, only the little pieces that I have direct control over, lol. My world is less hectic and I have considerably more freedom than the average person.

I can't skate well anymore, but I walk without pain, so that seems like an okay trade off. Do I wish I had my twenty year old body back? Sometimes, but most people I meet are envious of me, because they are spending every day working to survive, not really enjoying being young. I would guess that you have many adventures ahead, but if you stop where you are, thinking that's all there is to life, you will miss out on all those awesome things to come.

Lets assume there is not an afterlife. Wouldn't you rather be in pain/suffer then cease to exist?

Thanks for the post Tyler. I understand there are pros to aging like you have mentioned such as freedom, but all cons considered, most of the time the trade-off doesn't seem worth it to me. Of course I can only judge from the posts I've seen you made, but you appear to be aging quite well and don't seem to be suffering from any significant ailments that I associate with aging. Your positive attitude may be a contributing factor as to why you're aging well, but I strongly feel that given my already gloomy opinion of aging I doubt that as time progresses my outlook is going to shape into a more positive one.

It depends on what the pain/suffering is. I'd rather cease to exist than suffer from a terminal illness, being confined to a wheelchair, blindness, deafness; I think you get the gist.

I guess this is just a difference of opinion. I would rather live if I had any of the conditions because I am still able to maintain thoughts and brain function.

A lot of that started with the band "New Edition". Some time around '83 or '84 they started releasing albums of R&B songs with severely basic instrumentation behind them: just a few stripped down harmonized love songs with a monotone baseline, a barely audible drum track and a repetitive synth flourish tacked on here and there.

Well, they hit it really big and inspired and/or contributed members to Bell Biv DeVoe, Bobby Brown, DeBarge, Boys II Men, New Kids on the Block etc, etc, etc. So a lot of pop music for the last 30 years has been the same damn New Edition style song recorded over and over again by the pop flavor of the week.

Adding to that: once they started incorporating autotune, it no longer became necessary to even have talented singers. So now anyone can do it if they have the right image, timing and connections.

Re: My blog

Just going to post some of the songs I'm listening to at the moment, if you are feeling nice you can share some songs that you think I may enjoy judging from my taste I'm young and I'm just beginning to get into the whole "Rock n' roll", so there may be quite a few amazing songs I'm not aware of yet.

I've been listening to quite a bit of The Doors recently:

Really like Light my fire, Break on Through, People are strangers, Touch me as as well.

Some of the other bands I like include The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, Queen, David Bowie (although I only know a few songs), Jimmi Hendrix. So that's the kind of music I like!

There was a poster I disliked who was recently perma-banned. She trolled me viciously for months with personal attacks, and yet still always tried to play the poor victim. Her perma-banning has been one of the highlights of my 2p2 experience, even if it is later reversed.

Does it have anything to do with Clint Eastwood? Nah, I think I got my movies crossed up...
