Background Info:

https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/3...-play-1707610/

Goal:

My current goal is to be able to make 20k a year playing poker, this may not sound like a lot to some, but I also plan to move out of the Western world and into Eastern Europe where I hail from

The eventual goal would be to get into staking and coaching and be able to clear 50k+ with relative ease (sub 20 hour work weeks). I am not a volume monkey nor am I interested in being one, I am an adamant follower of Richard Koch's 80/20 principle and I do not want to spend my life clicking buttons so I can raise my EV by 1 bb.

I am also not a materialistic person at all, I love living minimilastically and I will continue to live like this, even if I had tons of money, the only things I would honestly buy would be super nice head phones (love music) and a super nice car (lambo for dem KNAWLEDGE gains), so 50k would be a TON of money for someone like me.

Current level of play:

50 NL where I am about break even over 13-15k hands, although that is mostly due to run bad

$20 ABI tournies

With HU Zooms being my primary game of choice

I also play the $22 3-Max PKO Zoom and the occasional $11 10:10 PKO Zoom (work allowing). Zooms allow me to keep the variance low due to getting more hands on average per tournament and HU allow me to make very good notes on each player. I generally only 1 table except Sundays where I play the bigger field tournaments.

These are my results in the $33 HU Zoom

PRIMARY POKER GAMES I WILL PLAY:
$22 3Max PKO Zoom
$11 HU PKO Zoom
$33 HU PKO Zoom
Sunday big field events
Some 50NL here and there

Interests outside of poker:
Philosophy, love reading books from Aristotle, to Plato, to Nietzsche, to Schopenhauer
Business, studied a ton of it for about a year going through the best lectures I could find on YT to going through 100s of books
Gymming
EDM, specifically hardstyle, vocal trance, hard trance and melodic dub
Politics although we don't have to get into that here
Hockey, big time Leafs fan and cheering on the Caps in the finals because they too have suffered a ton like us and VGK are more like hotshots who have been gifted the world

I think that's about it, I will post some hands and my graph in the next post

Fun fact about that Party graph, it was only PLO which I had no idea how to play (at least not being trained from anyone)

Here are some interesting hands from 50NL yesterday:

Love the turn bet regardless of outcome, there are so many hands HE has that are in the 25-33% range v me that he has to fold and even in the worst case scenario we still had 25% going to the river

I'll be sharing more hands from tournies soon, I don't really play 50NL a ton, but thought these would be nice to start

Saturday:
Built up massive stack in $22 HU zoom, had like 90 bigs with 200 people, ended up getting rekt, the ol $0 in bounties

Sunday:
Got utterly destroyed lmao, dropped like $300, every single tournament of the 7 I played went awful, fired 3 bullets in the $33 hu zoom and lost flips all 3 times

Yesterday:
Went amazingly well, finished 12/1.2k in the $22 3max zoom, although I ran like God (won 99 v JJ, A9 v AQo, AQ v QQ, 2 flips and A6 v AJ 106, AJ was short, but I rivered 6 and the 106 called 25 bb v my shove to hunt my small ass bounty), got some juicy bounties in the $33 hu zoom and I'm FINALLY in the positive after 10k hands at 50NL HU, a whole ****ing buyin!

No real interesting hands to showcase, maybe this one where I called off my stack:

I raise A5o on btn 3 ways
SB/bb call
Flop is A82, checks through
Turn is 6 putting 2 flush draws out there, I bet 2/5 and sb xrs 4x, I call
River brick 3, he shoves pot size SPR and I call off, he shows 66 and wins

The A5 is one of my strongest aces I can call there, maybe AJ is a fold and AQ/AK are calls too, but the 5 is just so nice in blocking the straight, I don't really know if he does that with all his busted flush/straight draws that he could have as I have no reads on him.

Also been going through RYE's course again and picking up a lot of things I overlooked the first time around, should be fun.

peace

Not the best week, not the worst week, brutal way to get 11th, AA v JJ, but I was pretty short stacked woulda been uphill road anyways, kinda annoying how I won that tournament the 2nd time playing and I just cannot do it again despite having a top of top 10s.

On the very bright side, finally up in 50NL!!!! (At least on Stars)

The rake number is pretty damn staggering since I think my RB may be $10-20 tops, just goes to show you how much tougher it is nowadays. Honestly it just feels good to be up though regardless, I actually honestly thought I might not be able to beat 50NL and on a grander scale, that's where I was last year, so it feels great to be actually making tangible forward progress even if it's small.

Gymming going very well, been very consistent as of late, going to step up my RYE game and make sure to study as much as I can.

Haven't updated this in a while, results:

As you can see, if I get 8th-12th one more ****ing time, ahh who am I kidding that's my tomorrow....

So brutal today too as a mega nit that was playing 40-20 cshoved 60 bb and I had 1010 that I folded, probably shoulda called off as I still woulda had 50 bigs even if I lost, then coolered me with 1010 on k791010 in a 3b pot for my 100 bb stack and boom 8/700.

Here are a few hands:

Greedy on the river? Perhaps, but I do think he can still call off with kq, k10 and even k9. I think in general population has a hard time folding kx.

Ah9s, I raise he calls:

Flop 832 with 2 hearts I cb 2/3 he calls
Turn is a qh putting 3 out there, x/x
River is the 2h and he pots, I raise 3x putting the pot SPR to 1:1 and he shoves

In hindsight I guess he's not the sort of guy to ever bluff in that spot, but I just didn't know what hand to put him on, two pairs and sets I would assume raise that flop, so I called off and he showed 33, feel sick to raise fold, given how the action went, but I guess it's the right move. Just hate this spot so much, but I don't think he's turning many of his 2x into bluffs there or at least not enough to call off.

Personally, I think my bluffs would be k2 with kh and that is it.

50NL has been going ok I guess, dropped 5 BIs in 800 hands, but made 4 today in 200 so it's w.e, here is an interesting hand:

Awful call on the river, I literally beat nothing, I guess it's not 0/100 and 1/100 because I didn't call with the jd thus allowing him to have bluffs like J4s, J6s, j9s, qjs, jks, ajs. Btw, that's how that guy bet, I stacked him later for it so retribution did come.

Still a week and a half left in my month, up around tree fiddy this month, so could be worse, but not up to the standard I wish to hold myself to.

Gymming has been relatively consistent, diet needs to be better and still not watching enough poker content, although I do watch everything uploaded to YT, I do need to make time for watching the RYE course again as I've said in the past

Player 3: checks
River: Ad
ZeeWhyZeeZee: bets 1000
Player 3: raises 3940 to 4940
ZeeWhyZeeZee: folds
Player 3: doesn't show hand
*** SUMMARY ***
Player 3 collected (3772)

So I overfolded one of my best hands here because I just absolutely do not see people ever bluffing here enough to really make the call, he would basically need to turn KJo or QJo into bluffs there and I just do not see the population doing that nearly enough to make it a profitable call. Although he could've easily played A10s or off AJo, A6s, KQo like that and that's roughly 39 combos, so I just folded.

Gymming been going really well and I have recently added the $27 3max in the morning (will also do the $11 if I go busto in the 3max early), so my buyins have gone up to $100 per day. It would be nice to get Stars to add another HU during the day and I'm going to go all out to try and make that happen.

Also finally got around to rewatching an episode of the RYE course and man was it helpful AF, going to be doing that again, despite it's less than stellar structuring and Vimeo being a complete ***** to fast forward to.

Finally, I got into staking and my student has been doing quite well, so that's always nice and I'm hopeful that I can help him reach his goals. Fortunately he had a good base already and once I shared with him some concepts, things have been going very well at the low stakes so far, looking forward to seeing how far we can take it. Once we have the BR, hopefully playing the same tournies and crushing them.

Wow, been nearly a month, here are some of my best finishes:

So that's why I haven't been updating, basically a month of getting REKT....

That is...

Until....

(Micromillions 8max PKO btw)

SHABOOM baby

Could not be more thrilled, especially with all the close calls I've had in the past few months, FEELS SO ****ING GOOD.

I have also decided that in an effort to make this log better for everyone, I will begin recording myself going over my hands and going through equilab, that way viewers will learn something and I'll be forced to explain myself. I will make sure to include hands I've played poorly and hands I've played well, but definitely poor hands.

Finished 2nd in the $27 3max Zoom for around $900, structure is honestly so annoying tbh, early levels move so fast, then at the end you get good poker (still a bit too long IMO), but by the time it's HU, you're playing forever and if the other guy doesn't wanna chop, you could be there for an hour, especially annoying when you have a villain who thinks he is better than he is.

Would prefer slightly longer levels to start (a few more added before you hit 50 bigs)or them being 6 minutes and then move up to 7 minutes when 9 handed and drop down to 6 minutes when HU final two. Basically, have more play to start, decrease the play a bit when nearing the FTs and decrease the play a ton HU.

So annoying as the guy didn't want to chop, blew a 5:1 chip lead and then sucked out 22 v 99 for 70 bb pot, I think I may review this tourny as some interesting hands were played.

Here is a new video of some of my bigger pots, not necessarily instructure, but I do feel it gives a good glimpse of how bad $11, $20 and even $30 tournies can be at times and how beatable poker actually is:

I don't know if this'll be interesting, but you might get a good laugh at some of the hands, apologies if the sound is a bit off. Will be doing my biggest losses next vid, so stay tuned to see me get destroyed.

I was going over my progress in the past year and I had realized that this was about the time I stopped playing poker for a long period last year, my last game on 888 was in August. Then I didn't really play until October when I started dabbling again before taking a break around mid February to late March.

As a whole, I am EXTREMELY happy with the progress I've made in the past year (or 9 months depending on how you count it) going from:

1.Not being able to beat low stakes and blowing a 2.5k BR
2.Crushing low stakes at 20bb/100
3.Getting burned out due to the grind
4.Coming back fresh and reapproaching my tournies with a different selection
5.Crushing HU and learning 50NL hu
6.Starting to crystallize ranges, exploits and the overall largest elements of my strategy
7.Building up my bankroll very quickly with it ending up at over 10k in a year from just a few $100 (recent investment that is, not total investment)

Most of all acquiring the right mindset along the way which I think is overstated in certain regards of today's poker scene, but just being able to handle downswings and huge mistakes (misclicking nearly 10% of your BR away or some really bad spews at 50NL) and keep it moving forward. I am able to keep my mood high and no longer be impacted by poker, the outside of poker life is finally at levels of indifference where I can keep it going regardless of poker results and poker now acts as a great motivator.

I'm currently getting into low end staking and coaching which I am very much looking forward to not just for the potential monetary returns, but also for the ability to FURTHER develop my thinking of poker by being forced to explain things either in simple terms or to explain them at all (helping people is nice too, that should go without saying, just speaking from my own perspective).

With the way things are going now, I definitely expect to be moving back to Eastern Europe by next year which I'm VERY much looking forward to and eager for. The thing left now is to continue to grow my game and learn as much as I possibly can putting in as much thought as I possibly can into different spots. I will eventually be purchasing Doug Polk's hu course, Libratus course and a RIO memby even though I don't play cash, learning would def be fun AF.

Just gonna give a bit of an update, decided to take a bit of time off as I had been grinding steady for 4.5 months straight (not a volume junky at all tbh).

Going to focus on studying before Wcoop and just work on memorizing as much of my range as I possibly can, going to try and hit 3+ hours everyday, been really lazy as **** of late and it's honestly pathetic and I need public accountability to help me.

On the bright side, I've brought up my blitz chess rating to nearly 2000 which is nice considering I don't study chess at all anymore, but it's nice to make progress on something other than poker.

Super pumped for Wcoop, my buyins even on the low end (without rebuys) eclipse my total bankroll from last year on all sites, crazy to think I went busto around this time last year, I remember in the fall when I won a $1 zoom for $200 how excited I was (lol).

I guess it's not much of a poker update per se, also I should be out of here by Summer next time which I'm SO ****ing looking forward to in going back to Eastern Europe, even if I did nothing I could survive on my money I have saved up for nearly half a decade (not saying I would, but just saying).

Update:

Got absolutely destroyed in WCOOP

Wcoop starts on the roller coaster (way down)

I guess on the bright side, the majority of destruction wasn't even in the wcoop but HU PKO Zoom (dropped like $300) and 3Max PKO Zoom ($200).

It really came down to two situations, I was nearing day 2 (literally final 30 minutes of both) of two $55 events and I ended up chopping a pot where I had QQ v AK v 1010, coulda won around a 80 bb pot, but a 10 spiked (held v the AK). Then I had AA which I flatted with 25 bb v utg open on the button, flop came 872 with 2 clubs (didn't have clubs), utg bet 3/4 so 150 into 200 and I just jammed my remaining 560k, he had a4 clubs and spiked his flush on the river.

Honestly it was disappointing af, think I ran 1010+ into overpairs probably 8+x (not a volume junky either) and as a whole I don't think I played that great either, probably 6/10 total. I actually can't even think of one hand that I went for 3 streets of value during the entire wcoop. Sad times

Here's a few interesting hands:

http://www.pokerhandreplays.com/view.php/id/9143301

AWFUL call on my part, the only kings I should even contemplate calling are non diamond king as he can still have a ton of flush draws he could theoretically play like that. I should exploitatively fold kings and aces with diamonds. People are in absolutely no way raising nearly enough bluffs in that spot.

http://www.pokerhandreplays.com/view.php/id/9143302

I time banked myself down to 8 seconds and then called, it's actually a great call if you think about it, the guy has a 3b of 11% which is normal, perhaps slightly on the high side. The only hands he reps are 66, 55, 22, A6s and A2s and he only has 12 combos of those hands total, that means if he is willing to turn any of the following; 44, 33, 66, 77, 88, 99, QJs, J10s, 97s, any kx into a bluff, we are absolutely printing in this spot.

Workouts have been going well, diet even better, waiting to get my passport and then I'll be going back to Eastern Europe

I think these should both be folds with the first one being not even close to a call, I'd basically have to turn Qjo, JJ and 88 into a bluff for him to be profitable there. The 2nd hand is much closer, but considering I have zero bluffs in that spot, it's a tough spot for sure, against pop he should be happy snapping it as they'd play 95s, 96s, 97s like that as well.

Shame Stars doesn't have more HU tournies, they are such easy money, it's insane.

Even bounty hunting is SO overlooked, during the tourny above, I counted 8 times when people passed up 1/3 to 1/8 of their stack to an all in to hunt my $25 bounty for 8-9k chips (bounty is worth 12.5k chips therefore pushing any two is profitable).

Me getting destroyed in Wcoop

Dropping 1k bb in 6k hands and then me winning 1k in the next 2k hands.

Here it is for HU only

Coming up on 100k hands

The graph as a whole, would be cool if I could somehow get up to 15k, but I'd be ok with 14k.

Not really a poker update, I been crushing as of late (a month that was nearly in the hole for 1k is now slightly +), just wanted to rant a bit.

It's truly amazing how incompetent the poker industry is at large, as much as we might harp on Stars, what are the real alternatives?

Party-Finally updated the software to where it's solid, but it's being ran by a person who thinks someone running a stable can give good advice and when people are completely against this, they ignore these people. Signing a bunch of irrelevant people just to say they've signed someone. Can't even run Zoom tournies that Full Tilt was running nearly a decade ago. Think that guarantees are the only thing people care about.....and yet their biggest guarantees are basically daily/weekly tournies on Stars...........THAT is what they want to compete on? They've made some alright changes as far as rakeback and rake, but positives coupled with relatively big negatives are not nearly enough.

888-I guess they're mostly meh, just kinda exist to exist, no interesting ideas or improvements, if you want overlay go play their series' I guess......where is the innovation though? Why does nobody want to offer interesting variants that can actually pull people off of Stars or try different marketing approaches?

ACR-DDOSCR,BotCR....gongshow

Despite Stars' trying their best to hollow out the assets and extract as much value possible from them, they are BY FAR the best company. Most interesting variants? Check. Best tourny selection? Check. Best software 20 years running? Check. Maybe if other websites had more aggressive marketing, losing players would stop playing on Stars, but they don't.....so Stars beats em even there.

I don't know why Galfond is bothering with the cash market, his offering isn't really too much different from Bovada/Ignition, I don't think it is going to be doing anything even remotely interesting.

Just my take, but it goes to show you the sort of market abuse that can exist stemming from monopolies, the saddest thing is that other companies are totally clueless on so many things that Stars can afford to behave in the worst fashion and entirely get away with it.

Just been getting smeshed like Dana's boy past month and bit

Feels like I'm never gonna win the $33 ever again, so many close calls, yesterday play for 9 hours in the PLO for only $100 finish, truly brutal to get down to the final .25% and get such a meh payout. Lotta close calls I guess.

Also getting rekt at 100nl, kinda annoying, but w.e.

On the brightside, I'll just become a Omaha MTT pro and win @ 80bb/100 since I'm so good now that I started playing again.

I do not find where you posted why you want to move to East Europe. Can you explain please? Also nice posts from you in the MTTs suggestion threads.

Cheers mate, I used to live there growing up.

The cost of living is a lot lower, the women are a lot better looking and overall the cultural and spiritual climate is a lot more my liking, not saying the country I'm going to doesn't have problems, in many ways it's very different from living in the west, however for my personal liking, there are many benefits.

I also have family and friends there, so moving there won't just be like some Americano or westerner going there with nothing and no one, I know the language as well, so no issues with that either.

Here is the last month of progress where I've gone into beastmode, but before today's BIG W, I was so pissed off for blowing massive chances below (a few of those I lead late in the tourny)

I'm going to be back either later today or tomorrow to post some of my more interesting hands, of which quite a few of me getting owned, so stay tuned.

RiadTDE shows [Tc Qc] Four of a Kind, Queens

He's going to have at least 14 combos of queens, and up to 20 total so that means he needs to have 5-8 combos we're beating to be break even v the 1.5x pot bet. He did have a big bounty which was worth around 13k, so if we add 13k to the pot we only need to be right 33% of the time or him to have 4-7 combos of bluffs or hands we beat.

He was pretty nittish in the 20 hands we had played together, but being 80+ bigs deep, he could honestly still have kings in his range which he could easily and honestly even a nit could easily play kings in that fashion. I think ultimately v someone as nittish as him (41/25/0), we just need to find an exploitative fold as he'll bet those hands pot or 3/4 as opposed to shoving.

Again though, this is a pretty sick spot and calling is still ok, but v him I think we NEED to find the fold, but he could still find a way to make this sickeningly profitable for us if he goes crazy with 88+ and has ANY bluffs (kjo, ajo etc).

Made it to Bulgaria and after a week and a bit here, can finally play poker, what a nightmare that was.

Honestly don't ever use SMS as security if you plan on moving or at least remove it before you go, that honestly alone cost me 4 days. Also have someone buy you a phone or at least have someone's phone ready in the country.

I'll give a small review of BG for those that care and compare it to Canada, Canada:
Infrastructure: 9/10 great all around
Women: 6/10 mediocre in general, ugly, fat and generally not very friendly
Cost of living: 5/10, everything is expensive and nobody in their 20s can afford a house, a supposed "first world country world leader" yet leaving their young people out to dry #Smart, food is expensive, internet/phones are expensive, taxes are high af total disaster
Culture: 6/10 nice and polite people, but this is a façade, most people are not friendly in the sense of actually wanting to do anything with you, this is something that me and many other Balkan peoples have found, Canada seems to overcompensate for a lack of meaningful relationship forming with extra niceness
History: 4/10, self loathing, anthem changing and ashamed of creating an awesome country, currently in the process of destroying this history via statue removal and demographic replacement
Respect for private property: 9.5/10, absolutely organized, neat and nonsavage people
Driving/general etiquette: 9.5/10, too courteous, kinda annoying tbh you got some car you're 20 feet from you waiting for you to cross when you re not even near the walkway.....
Weather: 5/10, horrible winters even near the border, humid summers, what is there to say? There's a reason Canada=GOAT at hockey, there's nothing else to do....

54/80

BG

Infrastructure: 5.5/10, not third world, but not great either, not even close to Canada, not much to say really
Women:9.5/10, so much hotter, not as fat and actually a lot friendlier and feminine lol, on looks alone it's so much better here, behavior is whatever, it's the same in all western countries
Cost of living:9/10 taxes are low, food is cheaper and making money online=#Winning, for reference, cost of egg whites here is $4 as opposed to $5 in Canada for 1L, Subway Steak and Cheese is $6 CAD as opposed to $11-13 CAD in Canada, pizza slices=$1 as opposed to $3-5 in Canada, standards aren't as high in certain things, but it's a lot cheaper
Culture: 7/10 A LOT more blunt and somewhat rude, however people are also very friendly and a lot more willing to go out, do things together and be open to new experiences
History: 9/10 as everyone remembers what the Ottomans did, we are not cucking to globalism and although there are major problems in the country, remembering the problems of Islamic expansion is not one of them
Respect for private property:4/10 You won't get robbed unless it's by Roma gypsies who aren't Bulgarian, but there is more garbage in general (due to the Roma mostly) and a ton of graffiti which Bulgarians have to own because it's everywhere and ****ing disgusting
Driving Etiquette: 5/10, not nearly as bad as some Bulgarians make it out to be, you just have to be more assertive, but there's definitely a lot more morons here, but it's not the free for all some like to portray it to be, I'd say 7/10 cars are fine giving you the right of way which is still way too low, but it's not like everyone is trying to run you over either
Weather: 8/10, currently 5 degrees with sun out meanwhile my mom said it was nearly -20 the other day...……….it's mountainous af here so no wind chill

60/70

So personally I way prefer BG due to the cost of living being better, women looking way better, weather being nice af and the overall outlook of the Bulgarian people which can be pessimistic at times, but also extremely realistic and almost positively pessimistic in seeing the world for what it is (Canadians en masse are not capable of this, they are simply too rich to care).

Oh and if theres any BG members that are on the forum, hit me up, I'd love to make some BG poker friends!

Been here about a month (in 2 days), so going to update results, only got internet a week in so only 3 weeks worth of results:

SO annoying finishing close SO many times, just getting stupid now!

Went and checked my previous sample and I have a few 500 drops so not too bad, but I think my mediocre results (for myself) are more a function of how trash I am running and thus not being able to build stacks to win more chips with, I am currently winning at around 14bb/100, meanwhile my actual bb/100 is 1.5....

At least I'm winning at 100NL

No volume bully, I may not be a 46bb/100 player at 100NL (probably 45 or maybe 44), but I=Good.

Honestly not been going super mad at poker due to all my family and friend obligations here, still going well, but I expect it to stabilize and then it'll all be good, although in certain regards this is probably as stable as it's going to get because I have to be there for my family and it's something I want to do too, so as long as it's not something everyday, I'll continue to balance the two.

On another brightside, I got 2 new students so I'm looking forward to getting them results, only had a few hours with both, but I think they're coming along quite well tbqh.

In general all is going very splendid, I dropped 10-12 kilos this past month and I'm just gonna take my fitness super super seriously here and get back into sick shape like I've been in before, I've also been taking the Doug Polk HU course and really liking it, although there are flaws with it, they are more cosmetic than anything, so it's nothing huge, loving the learning and knowledge dropped from the best in the world. Also been very productive in a few other regards, loving life.
