Wifey misses her oldest, so we are all up early, gonna drive an hour or so to go have breakfast with him.
Taking some stuff he forgot last week, a care package of miscellaneous BS, and some books he had delivered to the house.
Not sure if it would have been better for him/us if he were to have gone to a school MUCH farther from home.
Oh well.

Over here you apply for a particular course the last year of school, so you know exactly what you are going to be studying in college. Can he just go to loads of random courses and then decide on a major at some stage?

That's pretty much how it works.
You can say you want to be one thing, take some classes, change your mind a hundred times...you can get a degree in general studies if you want.
