I gotta say
For cops, they were really surprised
Glad nobody got shot (especially me)
Not sure which side of the ledger to put this experience on.
Seriously
The adrenaline was ampimg up as I got closer to the car.
If I'd had my weapon in my hand, there would have been more to the story.
They were looking at some papers, using a dash light. Their windows were down. I could hear them talking as I got near the driver's window. I realized they were lawmen maybe 2 seconds before they knew I was there. When the one on the passenger side noticed me, he flinched and grunted. That caused the driver to look at his passenger immediately, then he whipped around and saw me.
We all said "****" in a startled and unrehearsed sort of triplet.
I had decided I was gonna say "gentlemen" when I made my move, but the sudden change in the encounter caused "guys" or something like it to pop out.
I think I saw both men throw their hands towards their holsters and I'm pretty sure I took a step away from the car, pulling my hands away from my body.
I couldn't see the passenger's face/head, so I took another small step away from the car and bent over to make eye contact with both.
They were both talking.
I said something about thinking they were badguys and I remember saying "just checking".
They said some stuff to each other, and my guts were sending me the haul-ass message.
I said have a good night and started back to my house, through the front yard.
The driver said "be careful blah blah blah" and then dropped it in gear and took off.
Had there been a streetlight, they would certainly seen that beast of a pistol in the waistband and of my basketball shorts.
As I was unpacking, the aftershock about took me off my feet.
High intensity for a few seconds, outside, followed by drastic adrenaline crash.
I can still feel it a little, mostly jacking with my sleep.
Maybe, next time, I'll just turn on the porch light and the front floodlighting, and keep my old ass in the house.
