Josie's Thoughts on EVERYTHING
Yo, yo, yo...
I really like writing, it's very cathartic for me. In fact, I used to have a blog many years ago and I loved it, so I think this will be a very good thing for me. I suspect I'll be writing about work, poker, food, exercise, life, etc, etc, etc.
For today, let's start with life. I'm starting to panic because it's Friday afternoon and I have a wedding to attend tomorrow. TOMORROW! The current situation is that I have nothing to wear to the wedding, and am sporting black chipped nail polish at the moment.
I was at Foxwoods earlier in the week...thinking I'd swing by the mall and get a dress when I returned, but then there was a huge snow-storm and somehow, here we are. I doubt I'll have time to find a dress and get a mani, so I think I need to prioritize and get a damned dress. I can always do my nails myself in the morning. Ugh - we all know this is a recipe to look disastrous right? It is.
I DO have a worst case scenario dress in my closet but I really don't want to wear it. It's gold lame, super low cut and ugh...not the look I'm going for here. The girl getting married is the daughter of a woman I went to high school with. Many high school friends will be there and the look I want is understated elegance, not Peg Bundy.
I hate wearing dresses and hate shopping for them even more. Nothing ever fits right and I'll need to find a dress that's the right length for (short) me, which is like finding a needle in a hay stack. Okay, I guess that's enough whining for my initial post.
Subsequent posts will be about poker, coffee and how I haven't worked out in over a month. (no WALKING does not count as working out in my book, though I have been logging decent steps.)
Happy New Year!

Re: Josie's Thoughts on EVERYTHING
I for one find Peg Bundy to be very attractive so if that's the look you wind up with post pics please! Does Foxwoods still have a very high ratio of OMC's if so what do you think explains this, the bus tours?

Ha, thank you Hank!
I was at FW for a few days and yes, very high OMC ratio. All old nits. I'm no spring chicken yet I was one of the youngest at the felt, save one guy, most of the time. I hadn't been to FW in a few months and found it to be meh. I think the chinese bus might account for a small percentage, of these old guys just putting in the time and waiting for pocket aces.
I do think most focus on what's a good preflop hand and no one ever goes beyond that, how to play hands post-flop.
NH poker rooms also have their share of OMCs but I'd say a smaller percentage.

Re: Josie's Thoughts on EVERYTHING
Josie! Welcome!!
Have a feeling this blog is going to be super fun and entertaining - am finding it very much so already
Was just in the US over the holidays visiting my brother, and can't remember for sure but it seemed like Amazon.com had Prime same-day delivery available for some stuff? Like as a possible last resort, if the snow bomb has made it too yucky to go outside, but you're still worried about having something cute to wear tomorrow?
Only thing is that just typed into search something like 'elegant casual dresses' (Prime eligible), and got quite the eclectic selection - looks like a Peggy Bundy style dress may be more conservative than some of the Amazon selections lol?
Just figured amazon Prime same-day delivery might be worth a mention, in case there's maybe something there you may see that you may want to take a chance on as a last resort? Some of the dresses aren't so expensive and look not so bad in the pics
eg.

Hope you're managing to stay warm! Tomorrow sounds like it should be fun

Re: Josie's Thoughts on EVERYTHING
Thank you Trusty Sam! That style of dress is exactly what I was looking for. I ended up trying on about 15 different dresses and bought the last one I tried on. Black lace, but didn't really fit me well. The only size they had was a little big for me, but I made it work. I'll post a pic later on Tapatalk. It was fine and I was comfortable.
The downside of the wedding (shopping for dress on Friday night and attending wedding on Saturday night) was that I unable to play any poker this weekend! PLO is my game of choice and I saw on Friday night that it was running at 2 venues in NH and then again on Saturday night and I missed it all. I was having serious FOMO. My buddy played both nights without me *sob* and kicked ass. He texted me to tell me what I was missing and then added "Alex is in the game."
OMFG
Calling Alex a fish is an understatement! I played with him last week. He was constantly shocked when two pair didn't win. IN PLO! He's quite a character - He kept telling me how beautiful my nails were, to which I replied "Yours are pretty too."
There's something unsettling about a man wearing shiny nailpolish and his nails were as polished as mine. Whatever floats your boat! Except he kept TOUCHING my nails and hands as he told me how pretty they were. Lucky for him he's a fish!
He also bought me drinks. *eyeroll* He was drinking like a fish so of course I said yes when he offered. He'd drink he's whiskey on the rocks, while I DIDN'T drink my wine. One of us got inebriated. *eye wink*
In addition to the two poker rooms I've mentioned, there's another new one called "Cheers" (dumb name for where everyone knows your name) that I haven't been to you. So many poker rooms, so little time, and all fending for the same bidness. Rake, location, service, fishponents, they all factor in to where I'll play, but the end of the day I'll be at the poker room that is accommodating to me and my game.

Aaaaand here’s the dress! I’m the one in black FYI. If u look at the back of the neckline in the close up shot you’ll see how illfitting it is, but hey it was the best of a bad lot. I’ll probably get it tailored so it actually fits me.

Re: Josie's Thoughts on EVERYTHING
Your dress is much nicer than any of the ones available on Amazon Josie Really like classic dresses that have some subtle details like ruffles or embroidery or lace to make it interesting - it's very pretty!
You look about 10 years younger than your classmates! Must feel great to slay it at a reunion Also, it's always nice when a dress is too large instead of too small as well

Will coffee reviews also include tea? I’ve been hooked on a blueberry acai green tea from a *trusted* national brand, but I could use more variety ...I tried pomegranate and it was gross! Happy blogging

Hi Josie
Great to see you blogging! You need to get back to OOT though to sort all the blokes out.
Shopping can be a nightmare sometimes. I remember a dreaded afternoon it took me a whole day to find a pair of work pants that actually fitted properly! I would have bought multiples except they were the last ones left lol. You look very pretty though so even if it didn't fit perfectly you still pulled it off. Getting it tailored sounds like the go so you feel 100% comfortable.
Any tea recommendations would be a hit here also. I'm addicted to roobios tea after Holliday recommended it.

Hmm, maybe! In the office, my Secret Santa gift was a box of Yogi, Calming Tea...santa was sending me a message to chill out with the coffee I think. Santa also gave me a wooden ruler, so all the architects would listen to me...perhaps I need to chill out a little in work and maybe I'll try the tea, just to tell you how inferior it is to coffee.

OOT is fun stuff, but I'm either 'all in' or all out. I take a peek every now and again though.

Word! It's not that I dislike tea, but that I loooooove coffee.
Our office kitchen is stocked with different varieties though, so I guess I could try some and tell you guys how much I dislike them.

Re: Josie's Thoughts on EVERYTHING
Interesting situation at the felt in NH last week. First of all, I typically always max buy in, but last week, I bought in for the minimum, $100. Why? Because I'd won some free coaching from Jeff Boski and he'd told me about a particular strategy to try, which involved a min buy in (but many other bullets in my pocket).
Anyway....
So I'm in the game with mebbe $180 in front of me and a big fish sits down. I've played with him once before. He spews chips. He's in every single hand and raising max pre every single time. So we get in a hand with a significant pot because he's cray cray and we are heads up.
Turn pairs the board and gives me a flush draw. He bets out and my gut says 'bull****' and I call. River is a heart giving me the king high flush. I check, he bets $50.
Again, my gut says bull ****, so I call. With this call I have about $30 left in my stack.
Now here's where it gets crazy.
After I've called his bet he says "Look I don't want to take your money. I have QUADS. QUAD 5'S. Really, I'm not bull****ting you, I turned quads. You can take half your bet back.
Huh?
Take half your bet back and I'll show you. I have quads - seriously. Take half your bet back.
I didn't really understand - had never been in this situation before, but I believe him, take half my bet back (didn't even realize I COULD do that) and my hand is dead.
So I ask to see his quads and he mucks them, scooping up about a $200 pot.
Tells me he's not showing but he def had quads. Riiiiiiiight
Then a quiet hispanic man says that he folded a 5 pre-flop. I am sooooo mad at myself for being angle-shot but even more mad at him!
I call him a liar and a cheater and then proceed to go after his chips...successfully, might I add. I do not cool off and keep shooting him daggers with my eyes and keep reminding him and everyone else that he's a liar and a cheater. (perhaps that's not considered cheating but I was furious)
Soooo to placate me he tosses 5 red birds at my stack. Like that should fix everything. If anything it infuriated me further. So I threw them back at him. Aiming for his head. 5 times.
I later apologized and he later told me that I was right - that he was ****ing with me. I never should've fallen for it. Grrrr

Re: Josie's Thoughts on EVERYTHING
It's sort of easy to see what was going on from this distance. Anyone that would ever do that would simply show the quads. I have no idea what I would have done in that situation, though. Maybe the same thing you did. I dunno.
Pretty damn douchy move. I don't think I've seen worse.

Yes, in hindsight I'm such a naive idiot but I just wasn't really sure what was going on. I also reacted very badly. I normally never react badly at the felt.

You reacted completely normal. With your temperament you showed enormous amount of restrain by not going physically for him. I am glad that I played life only two times in my life. This kind of stuff is impossible online.

Re: Josie's Thoughts on EVERYTHING
20 Things That Make Me Happy
Chopstick asked Lapka to list 20 things off the top of her head that make her happy. It's not as easy as you'd think, for me anyway.
1. Sunshine
2. Being at the beach
3. Sense of accomplishment/achievement
4. Coffee
5. babies and children - I love interacting and playing with small kids
6. helping someone more than they expect
7. winning a tournament
8. successfully bluffing someone
9. being around my son
10. providing for my son
11. sitting next to someone I'm physically attracted to
12. having nothing to do
13. being alone
14. absence of noise
15. orgasms
16. being warm
17. drinking coffee
18. watching football
19. kayaking on the river
20. music

Reason: Interesting - while rereading my list I notice that I never mentioned food, but listed coffee twice. Huh

Re: Josie's Thoughts on EVERYTHING
Happy Friday everyone!
Last night's work out:
Treadmill 40 min, 3.5 mph, 5% incline
Bicep curls
Flys
Planks
Pushups
Overhead pulls
I've worked out 4 days this week and 5 days last week. I'm finally back into some sort of routine. Routines work best for me. However, I'm not as strong as when I was going at it gangbusters and had wim. I'm increasing my weights and stamina every time I work out though so I'm cool with it.
However, I STILL want guns for days! And the only way to get them is through hard, consistent work. I can't be complacent because I look pretty good or good enough. This is not just about looks. Though 2 days ago a woman I ride the bus said to me "You've lost so much weight haven't you?" I confirmed that yes I did and then she replied that she wasn't even sure I was the same person because I looked so different.
I almost forget that person because it was quite a while ago and because maybe I want to forget, but it was a good reminder of where I've come from.
Playing poker tonight in NH, hopefully PLO. Great start to a great weekend. Go Patriots! I've been attending a Super Bowl party with the same dudes for about 20 years. It's pretty much all poker, food and 420. Dealers choice, .25 min bet, .50 min bet if a pair is on the board and no checking. Bet or fold.
7 card stud, deuces wild, jacks or better, no peek, midnight baseball, follow the queen, the cross, acey deucey (my fave) etc. It's pretty much like bingo but it's a lot of fun with these guys. Unfortunately, I can't talk them into making it a NL sit & go.
Go Pats! #tomterrific

I am indeed back on the work-out train. Since this post I worked out on Fri, Sat & Sunday....and I really had to make the time on Sunday, with it being Super Bowl Sunday and all.
In fact, here's what I did yesterday:
5:30am coffee and brekkie
6:00am made homemade chocolate cake and chocolate pudding, which were the key parts of the individual trifle desserts I was bringing to the super bowl party.
8:30am assemble chocolate trifles
9:00 visit mama to drop off a couple of trifles (her fave) and fix/reprogram her microwave
9:30 WORK OUT - fast but good. did elliptical for 40 min, 2 planks & 15 min free weights
11:00 Shower, hair, makeup, dress, make jalepeno poppers for my son
1:00 Superbowl Party
6:30 Watch super bowl at home
9:15 fall asleep on couch
1:00 awaken to find devastating news.
