Re: Jmakinmeangry's debauchery and general idiocy blog

The only clubs i feel very confident with are my 7 iron and my wedges. The spread on my wedges is amazing and I can hit the greens I’m aiming for almost every time. But I’m a little afraid that it’s a side effect of my severe problems in my downswing.

I can only really practice putting for like 45 mins to an hour tops before I fry my brain trying to read greens and keep my swing straight and my speed good. I always stop after I sink a put so I leave on a high note. I was at the range 6 hours ago and I hit like a twelve footer uphill with some bank and decided to leave on that one.
Idk why itís just super boring to me. Iím gonna work on my swing for a while before i do a lot of putting/chipping

Re: Jmakinmeangry's debauchery and general idiocy blog

I say practice in whatever way is fun for you. Thats the most important **** right now. I did what you are doing and worked on my swing first.

The practical advice ill say is that you will be working on your swing for the rest of your life kinda. You should be working on your short game always because its the most important. You will always hit wayward shots but scrambling will save you and there is also an art to it.

Re: Jmakinmeangry's debauchery and general idiocy blog

Once i stop hitting so many block shots i’ll focus more on scrambling. This new range has an absolutely incredible greens area.

But the good news is i’m not really putting much side spin on the ball anymore.

And, I looked in the mirror this morning and noticed i look less fat than usual, weighed myself, i’m 172! I was at 180 last time I checked. I think I lost about 5 lbs. i think this is burning a lot more calories than I realized.

Just wait until you start walking the course. If you like the range this much youíre going to love playing a round.

Although it will definitely tilt you more, so build up to it. Worth it tho.

Re: Jmakinmeangry's debauchery and general idiocy blog

So, I fixed the main thing I was trying to stop, which was chunking the mat right before impact with the ball. Whenever I'd consciously try to correct this I'd just end up topping it or having very weak shots.

With a lot of research and working on my backswing I've gone two sessions now without doing this. However my ball flight is still at a hard, 30 degree angle to the right. No spin, just a straight, high shot that is probably 20-30 yards shorter than it should be.

I did a lot of research and think it's because I'm not releasing the club. I looked for root causes of this symptom and it seems like I'm probably gripping way too hard for starters. My hands are usually super sore after a session and this seems like it shouldn't happen.

I'm going to focus on a smooth relaxed swing, maybe 60% of how hard i normally swing, and try very lightly holding the club. Maybe make some minor adjustments to my grip, but my buddy said it looks fine. I saw grannies carrying the ball 30 yards farther than me with their irons with no discernible reason so I know there's a lot more to this than raw strength. I would describe myself as stronger than the average person, especially in my shoulders and legs. This is from so many years of driving the boat which was pretty physically demanding. I don't think strength is an issue at all.

A lot of it is how I approach this from a standpoint of playing baseball for so many years. A great baseball hit has just a few factors - angle of impact, where the ball hits on the club (sweet spot), and how hard you swing. How hard you can swing is a lot with how you rotate your shoulders and hips, similar to golf - but golf distance is all about clubhead speed at impact. The baseball swing's speed is fairly linear, it doesn't really speed up much around the point of impact nor do I think that makes a huge difference on how far the ball goes. The bat also doesn't really whiplash like a golf club can because it's much thicker and heavier. I could be way off there - I'm just speaking from my own experience and roughly paraphrasing from the swing lessons I've taken as a kid/adolescent.

So the way I'm thinking about my swing is just way wrong. I will get there. My shots are super consistent, my club face is square with my swing path on impact, so I have a lot to work with right now. I'm feeling confident i'll make a lot of progress. A lesson should probably happen sooner rather than later.

Yeah a lesson now while you're starting to develop your swing is going to more valuable than getting a bunch of lessons later to try to correct bad habits. You're probably making some typical mistakes the pro has seen dozens of times that are easy to fix if you know what you're looking for.

If my theory is correct and I start releasing, I predict that I will start hooking the ball to the left.

Yea, that's what my therapist said. luckily I am used to making adjustments in swing from so many years of taking baseball lessons. I respond very well to that type of training and I think one lesson will probably go an extremely long way for me.

Re: Jmakinmeangry's debauchery and general idiocy blog

Wow loosening/changing my grip had such amazing results.

I had to change the way i gripped my club so it wouldn't wiggle around with how much looser I was gripping it. I tried gripping it like I was trying not to crush an egg. Not only did most/almost all of my shots stay on my target line, I was hitting a slight fade that started left and curved 5-10 yards right with the 7 iron.

Then I busted out the 5 hybrid and was carrying it over a 150 yard green I never ever hit past. That club was a little more all over the place, but I felt like I was making solid contact and getting it in the air which is what I wanted. I tried the 3 wood and I was actually getting it off the mat and into the air, which I was unable to do before. But my 5 hybrid goes way farther so I put that back in my bag after about 15 balls and went back to the hybrid. Not much noticeable difference for me between the 4 and 5 hybrids, and the 5 is way easier to strike so I will focus on that club now. Don't wanna wear my 7 iron out lol. Between my wedges, which feel really nice, my 7 iron, and my hybrid, I think I can handle a round when I bring together all the stuff I'm working on. I don't like to focus on more than 1 thing at once when I go to the range so I'm sure my head was moving all over the place and my backswing had a lot to be desired.

I'm feeling great after that session, I can't believe such a small thing made such a massive difference in the direction of my ball and how far it went. The sound off the club sounded way better, before it was kind of a dull thwop sound and now it's a nice whack sound. My hands don't hurt either.

gonna take a nap and do some more practice later. this is a lot of fun for me, idk why. the feeling of hitting a high, far shot just feels so good. Especially when you try to fix something and get consistent results.

Re: Jmakinmeangry's debauchery and general idiocy blog

Today I shouldnt have gone - my hands are so sore i can barely reach in my pockets and grab my keys.

I went anyway and realized it was gonna be hard to really take a hard swing at the ball so I focused on trying to increase my body's momentum into the ball in coordination with my shoulders to see if i could carry the ball farther.

Wasn't having a lot of success until I went back to my backswing and realized it's really slow and choppy. I bring it back slow, pause, almost like i'm gonna take a cut with a bat, and then come down. So I sped up the tempo and tried to make it one smooth motion, I dont think I was swinging very hard but the ball was going higher and farther and my mi****s were pulls (which I never do). Idk what to takeaway from it but I think I need to explore it more when I'm feeling 100%. Gotta take a few days off or just do some putting.

Re: Jmakinmeangry's debauchery and general idiocy blog

I just did an Epson Salt bath to soak away the sore. You might want to grab some. Im about to hit another 150 right now. I got 5 hours until they close and Im going to use up all 5 hours. Im going to bring books and snacks. Im going to hit like at least 100 drivers tonight. I almost got this thing dialed in. My posture is better from having to use my back muscles all the time now.

How do you go that long? Just buy 5 buckets?

Iíd do like 3 hours and usually want to but cost is prohibitive. I get 100 free balls a day.

Lately Iíve been doing 100 balls, then an hour putting.

Re: Jmakinmeangry's debauchery and general idiocy blog

I was there only 2 and half hours and I hit like 140 balls, no putting. I was tired so I was actually resting a lot and reading. I can do a 150 balls in less than an hour if Im fresh. The thing I learned is its better to take your time at the range. Hit a couple shots, hit the vape, eat some candy, hit a couple more shots and read a magazine. Leisure it up. I used to rush through bucket which has its place but I like chillin now.

My range does 50 for 6, 100 for 11, 150 for 13, and I think 250 for 20. Its owned by the city so you get a fair deal.

I feel like 100 for $12 is the standard around here. Feels way too high. 100/day for $40/month is just awesome for me.

Re: Jmakinmeangry's debauchery and general idiocy blog

I don’t really want to talk about work too much, because I’m feeling paranoid about that coming back to bite me. It’s fine, I’m not in love with it, but I think I’ve demonstrated that i am technically competent. My boss still doesnt see it I think but the people around me are starting to.

The management part is just hopeless. My boss gets too in the way of things for me to really be anything other than a glorified organizer/stats keeper. However, I went for a smoke with the CFO (he basically runs the company) and he told me I should consider business school, because then I’d be “the stuff CEO’s are made of.” That was good to hear.

Not a lot going on in the lady department, I put that on hold and was settling in for a long haul of no sex, but then last night the cougar hit me up. She just got out of that LTR so I gusss we’ll hang out now. Good timing. Hope it just doesn’t get weird again.
