Yeah I bailed. Kind of anxiety related but I really didn't want to go through a pitch.

I do sort of want to start looking for other jobs though that are not on boats

Re: Jmakinmeangry's debauchery and general idiocy blog

no

korean spa was cool but weird. I don't mind being naked at all, but the sauna was ****ing hot. 185 in the steam sauna, breathing was actually burning my nose and my throat.

The communal rooms were much more awesome. There were 5 or 6 of them with different "themes." The warm room was the fire room at 120. There was an ice room that was super chilly, maybe 40. The most relaxing room was the Himalayan salt room, in which the ground was covered with salt rocks. I don't know why but I loved laying on the rocks and sweated really good in there.

Then there was a weird "forest" room that some kind of herbs going, and one other room I forgot.

I'm not sure they're open in the summer but I will. going to start looking for the next year so I can have hopefully at the very least an internship by next summer, maybe an actual job.

My procedure isn't til the 21st of ****ing august. There goes my summer.

I might just say **** it and start drinking again. What's the point?

Primerica Financial Services: The Fake Job Interview

Quote:
A typical recruiting ploy in Primerica is the job interview. Representatives of PFS troll the internet for job seekers, harvesting resumes from job sites. They contact the job seekers with an offer of an interview for an opening. They give the job seekers very little information about the “job” (it’s not a job at all… rather it is a position in the MLM pyramid), con them into showing up for an interview, and telling them if they have the right skills, they may be invited to stay for an information session.

The truth is that the “interview” is no interview at all. It is simply bait to make a [possibly desperate] job seeker to show up for a potential job that doesn’t exist. Everyone gets invited to stay for the informational session, and everyone will be strong-armed into signing up as a representative.

Re: Jmakinmeangry's debauchery and general idiocy blog

She's already tried to contact me on 2 different numbers other than the one I blocked.

At least it got me to wash and press all my nice interview clothes. And I posted a pic of me in my clothes and tie and a girl on snapchat ive been talking to told me "im sorry im not trying to be weird but you are so cute" so that was cool. She's pretty cute too.

Question: is wearing a suit to an interview optional? I have suits but they are more formal/party wear, nothing I'd wear to an interview.

J,

I'm a fan of the interview attire rule of finding out what most people wear there and going one notch higher.

But if they wear suits, don't show up in a tux.

Re: Jmakinmeangry's debauchery and general idiocy blog

You need really good interview suit. And it is not optional. It needs to be good quality and optimal fitting. Invest some time and money in that. Don't buy it in a shop with young girls as sales. Look for somewhere with an older experienced guy, who knows what he is talking about, and let him really help you.

Clothing is super important. It is basically a signal of how much you really want the job. I mean if you end-up somewhere in a programming job, suit won't be your every day wear. You still have to come in a suit for the interview.

Clearly the party attire is no-go for an interview.

J,

This is California, not communist Russia. Lots of great places to work where you don't need to interview in a suit. I've interviewed hundreds of engineers and I can think of maybe a half dozen who came in suits, all weirdos. On the flip side, I definitely wanted my sales candidates to come dressed in a sharp looking suit.

O_O,

but I believe ElD. Listen to ElD. But if you ever interview in Germany ......Suit...

edit: I am in shock O_O
edit2: yeeeeahhhhh cultural differences......
edit3: that is really really funny for me. I was also in a hiring process on the employer side. Something like 20 to 30 guys went through me. All very technical from engineers to the IT stuff. I never saw anyone without a suit. Now that I think about it..... How my reaction would be if one would appear without. It would be a clear disadvantage for him. Not an automatic exclusion but a disadvantage. But that again probably only because it would stand out on the background of suits.

Jmakinmeangry's debauchery and general idiocy blog

Lapka,

Btw when I said engineers, I was referring to software engineers working in a California software company.

California is a special place!

A software engineer interviewing for a programmer job at an insurance company in the Midwest or a financial services company on the east coast should most likely wear a suit. Even in California, a suit would be appropriate to interview at a number of older, more traditional businesses.

Tx for the explanation. I think that is highly interesting to know what is appropriate when and where.

Jmakin, are there career fairs on your campus?

Have you talked to professors who have industry contacts and who looks upon your work favorably?

El D,

Would you knock an engineer down a bit for showing up in a suit, as implied? Is the typical attire something like nice slacks and a button-down? Just curious in case I ever need to know what to wear when interviewing for a tech firm.

YES. Very important. No picture - no chance. Bad picture - no chance.
Costs of good solid picture about 50 Euro. Don't even think about making a picture with your phone it putting it on.

The private campground at least has showers and stuff. I will drive at least to and from Manhattan Beach.

If not another time is fine. (Just to be clear - I don't necessarily have a full time permanent spot open even. )

I'm thinking around $175/day expenses included though you can't eat, so that shouldn't be a big expense. ; p. If you have a cordless drill set that'd be good.

Rdh,

I don't think you're likely to get dinged for wearing a suit, but if it's a super casual environment it might be easier to bond with some of the interviewers if your attire is closer to them.
