In terms of your graduation issues, I know that at my school we give priority to waitlisted students who need a class to graduate, and we generally work hard to accommodate those students. I would contact the department chair and/or professor of the class you need and ask if there are any options that would allow you to graduate on schedule.
I'm gonna do this. but the thing is EVERYONE needs that class to graduate, it's not just me. ANd they only offer it once. One ****ing time. It's a joke. This school pisses me off, the course selection is awful.

my backup plan is take the class next summer of 2018. They still allow you to walk at commencement if you finish in the next quarter. but then, that might interrupt with any internship plans I have, but that's too far away to worry about now

but so what I guess. why do I ever try to excel in anything? it's for me, at the end of the day. Like why did I bust my ass so hard to hit legend a few times in hearthstone? So I could say I did it. I'm never going to be a top player, but that was a goal I set for myself and I wanted to do it and I did it, and I am proud of it.

Same with poker, a long time ago. I just wanted to prove to myself I could beat a game, and I did, then I lost interest. But I can say I did it.
I do understand this. And i can relate so much to it. Talk with therapist about it. I mean I don't have some kind of advice like do XYZ and this is gonna change and you will be happier. For me it just changed with time. After getting so often, that I won't be the best in so many things and it actually doesn't matter, I got much more relaxed.

thank you

today she kept steering the conversation towards me doing other things. For instance, I mentioned I have done math tutoring before. Now my assignment is to go apply to some tutoring agencies, or put up ads for myself to try to gain some students.

She says my edge is that I'll work for half of what people usually charge, which is true. I did research and the going rate is $50-60 an hour. I'd do 25-30 easily.

The problem is, I'm not sure of my qualifications. My only real qualification is I'm decent at math. I can't really prove it other than showing my grades. I've never received below an A in a math course (although this stats class may be the first exception). But that's it really.

I would feel confident tutoring everything up to beginning calculus.

+1 on not getting it. You're going to graduate, perhaps a bit later than expected, with a really good GPA in a really challenging and in demand subject, from a really good university. That's my impression anyway.

And I got jobs as a computer programmer and not once did anyone ever ask my GPA or how long it took to graduate.

Re: Jmakinmeangry's debauchery and general idiocy blog

I need to start developing my skills as a programmer though. I shouldve sought an internship this summer. I didn't. My therapist thinks I have deep issues about my belief in my ability to do things.

Last final was today. I didnt know how to answer a 10 pt question and a 6 point question, but I think everything else was mostly correct. I only needed a C. Even a D probably would be fine, because the course is curved and I went in with 100%.

I feel so much better. Now I have to figure out what to do with all my free time. Tomorrow I have a date so I need to do some serious cleaning.

You don't need an internship for that. Just start programming some stuff!

Re: Jmakinmeangry's debauchery and general idiocy blog

I never know what to program.

I've been wanting to make a game for a while and I have a lot of ideas. The problem is most modern game building tools are very front end heavy, WYSIWYG kind of stuff. The only actual programming would be stuff on the back end like DB management for user profiles, or porting it to a device like droid or ios. Stuff I'm not very good at.

God my attention span is so bad. It's taken me like an hour and a half to go through the 8 min tutorial on setting up a project in the editor.

Then I decided my PC was being sluggish so I spent 30 mins cleaning up my drives.

Re: Jmakinmeangry's debauchery and general idiocy blog

For my first web develpment job I had no experience, one semester of programming in college, knew a couple smart people at the company, did a few modest demonstration projects in JavaScript and then 95% learned on the job.

That was a lot of luck for sure (friends + the people making the hiring decision were pretty easily impressed), but even if it's harder in your case, if you can show that you can do the work someone will recognize that and hire you. I think.

Re: Jmakinmeangry's debauchery and general idiocy blog

That's exceedingly rare nowadays

The industry is still growing at a huge pace, and there are a lot of jobs - yet companies are still really picky. It's a weird phenomenon. My understanding is it's extremely competitive right now, even for entry level positions.

I'm not too stressed about getting a job out of school because my living situation is sustainable. If for some reason I can't, or I get one and I don't like it, I'll just go back to school and try to get a masters and look at teaching or something.

J,

That's not rare at all, and anyone with any demonstrable programming skill can pretty easily get a good job. Your understanding re: the software engineering job market is incorrect.

Becoming part of some open source projects is one great way to showcase your skills.

Re: Jmakinmeangry's debauchery and general idiocy blog

I got a 90/130 on my math final. Which is exactly what I expected. I knew I had missed at least 30 pts, and figured if I got 90% of what I wrote down right I'd be about 90-100/130 range. The average was a 78 so I guess I did ok.

Hah. Suck it therapist, I can assess my own performance. That's exactly what I expected.

Unfortunately it puts me at an 86.57% and if that doesn't get rounded up to a B+ I'll be kind of pissed off.

what a waste, because I totally could have got an A in that class if I had studied a little more. I was so burnt out at the end though. Now... hopefully he makes it out of 100 or curves it somehow. I kind of doubt he will. But if the average was almost an F, come on. He barely taught the last part of the class. He just skimmed through his ****ty ass slides and put some stuff on the test he didn't teach at all. **** that. Curve it mother****er.

whatever it doesn't ****ing matter anyway I passed.

I think we can firmly establish that I am a B+/A- student. I don't think trying any harder would get much more return so I don't know if I'll change my strategy much.

Re: Jmakinmeangry's debauchery and general idiocy blog

****ing christ man I got a 70 on my OS final too. Wtf. I thought I did way better.

At least I went in with 100% and that course is curved. I'll be kind of upset if I don't get an A.

I don't know why i always do so terrible on finals.

Re: Jmakinmeangry's debauchery and general idiocy blog

Dating:

I got laid 2 nights ago with some chick off tinder, and I asked a girl from work that I've been pretty cool with to an Angels/Dodgers game next week because we always talk about baseball and she's an angels fanatic and I like the dodgers. She's a really pretty, sweet girl but I don't think she's interested in anything, she's sort of asexual. But people at work sometimes joke that she has a crush on me so who knows. Also extremely shy and lacking in confidence, which is sort of a turn off to me but whatever. she's fun and we have fun when we hang out.

I was kind of surprised she snap said yes and didn't even mind if I paid for the tickets, when she said she'd give me the $$ for the ticket I just said "pick up parking and we'll call it even" and usually girls will get kind of defensive with that, if they sense it's like a date and they are not interested they'll REALLY insist on paying but she was cool with it. So I was pleasantly surprised she let me pay for them.

Re: Jmakinmeangry's debauchery and general idiocy blog

I devoured the book on fermat's last theorem, great read. I feel I have a pretty good layman's understanding on how the proof works and there were resources for further reading which were a little above my head.

Went back to the library and found not one, but two(!) different books on the reimann hypohesis, so i picked the one that looked more interesting. Figured I should pick up a fiction book, didnt know what to get, so I just went to the ray bradbury section (only had like 3 books, wtf?) and got a collection of short stories.

That should keep me occupied for a few weeks.

It seems sensible that the thing you think is most important is not the thing that she thinks is most important. And she probably has more practice than you.

Re: Jmakinmeangry's debauchery and general idiocy blog

Wow I got an A+ in history, an A-, and an A-

TA for my history class must have just totally phoned it in. He didnt care about people turning in their HW or anything and seemed like the type that would just be like "i dont wanna grade, A's for all!"

No way I aced that final. Absolutely no chance. Lol humanities. I did make sure my participation was very high because that helps a lot in small classes and I actually was interested and engaged in the subject, so maybe that helped.

All A's finally but those last two were really very high B+'s that must have been curved somehow.

I taught math at Sylvan while in school. It was really enjoyable and felt good to build the kids confidence. You'll help with the basic SAT math and stuff like that; I even tutored a girl in chemistry. You should give that a try.

J,
I need a statistical analysis program that can grab files from one software and dump them into Excel and automatically generated different values like Cpk and generate a report. I basically want to skip the step of copy/pasting+writing new formulas+organizing a report. (No, I don't have access to minitab)
Maybe you could help me out with this?
And something that can take a picture of hand written data points and auto populate them into Excell would be great too.

Why would someone you've been so incredibly rude and dismissive towards ever want to help you out? Your attitude is completely baffling to me.

The problem is that most companies won't pay for new software, so I need something cheap/homemade/that just I could use. My company won't even pay for another seat of minitab.
