What, you think OP is going to spend the next 20 years slumming around the backpacker circuit? He's going to do it for maybe a year or two, and probably burn through less than 20% of his bankroll. Then he will settle down somewhere and start a new life with plenty of money to get him going. And if he does it right and learns what he wants to learn along the way, it will be the sort of life he's happy to live until the day he dies, as opposed to a miserable slog in pursuit of early retirement.

OP, I sincerely wish you safe and happy travels. It sounds like the trip of a lifetime. I do not think it will be something you will ever regret. I will be following along and rooting for you the whole way!

All right, so I've changed the layout of my blog with the 3 last posts on the front page, I have also canceled some annoying "read more" so that readers don't waste time on clicks to read the content from the front page, and some others things (I've added the RSS at the right, put my story at the upper right bar etc). Hope it's more readers friendly this way. I have also rewritten the part about money and as I told in some previous post here I've posted my thoughts about what I am expecting from this journey. Just hope that my english accent is not that bad and that what I say is understandable. Don't forget that I'm not an english native speaker.

No problem, I have no issue with you. Thanks for posting this. I hear you and I understand how foolish this whole thing might look from an outside point of view. I feel that I have to do it anyway, so I will do it and see what happens. I would feel ashamed at the end of my life if I decided to cancel this journey. I wouldn't respect myself.

****ing vaccines. I feel like **** today.

I had to woke up at 5am to catch the train at 8 so that I could arrive at 9:30 in the city where the hospital was. Yellow fever and rabies vaccines were only available there (Rouen, 1,5 hour train ride from home, going to Paris would have been longer).

I arrived at the hospital and an old lady made me fill up some papers. Then I had to wait a solid half an hour before I could see the doctor, a pretty 25ish old young woman I wouldn’t have minded to have as a gf.

She asked me some questions about my trip, where I would go, how long I would be traveling and so on before discussing about the vaccines. One single shot to be vaccined against the yellow fewer but today was only the 1st out of 3 injections for the rabies’.

– all right, get off your shirt she told me.

Quite proudly I took off my cloth (I’m going on a regular basis at the gym, so I’m quite fit), but she didn’t give a **** about my body (get that in your face Angelo, you douchebag)

I got both my yellow fever and 1st rabies injection and we agreed I would come back next monday for the 2nd shot. I left the doctor and went to the cashier where I had to pay a disgusting 110€ just for today (seriously, paying that much and with that much hassle to get vaccined I almost do hope to get bitten by a dog so that I wouldn’t have done all this for nothing).

I went back to the train station, waited for 45 minutes and took the train to get back home. It was 1pm then. While I was driving to go home I started to feel bad. Nauseous. Something weird about my stomach, as if I had eaten some rotten food.

I forced myself to lunch inspite feeling bad. Wanted to puke, which is not that weird if you consider that being vaccined (and I got 2 shots) is all about being poisoned by the virus so that your immune system starts to build defenses.

At some point I felt so bad that I had to go to bed. I was so tired because of waking up that early this morning plus the nauseous feeling that was attacking my brain.

Surprinsingly I slept 3 hours like a baby. When I woke up I was feeling better. No, I didn’t say ‘great’, I just said ‘better’. I still have a weird and unpleasant feeling in my stomach area.

Anyway, this is for the good cause. Even if the odds of being bitten are slim, you never know, and I’ve been reading travellers’ accounts relating how they got bitten by cats, dogs, monkey in SE Asia. Being vaccined against rabbies will not protect me but will give me more time to get healed in the case it happens. Plus I will only have to get 2 injections instead of 5.

Therefore and inspite this process being a real pain in the ass, I’m happy I’ve decided to go through it.

Tomorrow will be another day, hopefully feeling better.

I changed my mind so that my gran mother wouldn't be worried. She was quite concerned about the rabies.

Ta grand mère est encore vivante! Awesome, it's good to make her happy.

Oui c'est ma seule famille désormais. Elle a 85 ans.

It's a huge pain in the ass but it is very important for me to please her and make her not be too worried (at least about possibly being bitten) while travelling. She is my second mother and I love her

pop quiz, hot shot:

you're strolling around india or africa or some **** and BAM some random monkey starts attacking you. you don't know what it wants, you just know it is one meter tall (head to toe) and aggressively up in your personal space with violence.

WHAT DO YOU DO?
