I think it's cool that you're travelling.

I am going to school this September for Engineering. If I won 70k somehow I'd quit my job and travel Europe until then.

I disagree with others who say that travelling and having other experiences stunts your professional career. I think it sounds good to an employer if you're travelling. Also, my sister travelled all her life. She would save and travel and I've always envied that. Now she has her own company in New York (we're Canadian, she only made these connections through travel) and can make money anywhere in the world with her DJ business.

I guess what I'm getting at is that life is a series of random things. Like poker. You're not going all in, you're just betting a little bit and who knows what's going to flop. Maybe nothing but at least you get to experience some things along the way.

It's better than being 60 and having never travelled the world, you miss out on so much when you don't take risks. This world is your Oyster, more now than ever before because of "new" methods of travel.

Happy travels OP.

op - no one ever says "I wish I had traveled less" on their deathbed. It's always "I wish I had traveled more".

Good call.

I wish I had traveled less in my life. But everyone is different.

edit:

India is bad. I mean unless you are staying somewhere in touristic ressort. What I was completely unprepared there is how much people just try to rip you off. If you are white, western looking expect that they will always try to charge you 10 times as much as is normal.

Indians do that to everybody. It's a haggling culture. And you really shouldn't complain about paying the western tourist premium in a country where the average person makes less than $15 a day.

I don't complain. I just don't travel there unless I can't avoid it. And it is not paying premium, what is upsetting, it is this feeling of being coned.

An example: In a shop that takes credit cards, a sales man said to me that they are only up to something like 200$ and that I have to pay remainder cash. I realized only later that everything that I have given him cash, just went into his personal pocket.
I certainly never again visited this shop and gave it everywhere I could corresponding review.

I just don't want to have my guards constantly up against people taking advantage of me. And in India that is just always the case.

So true. I do. Sadly sometimes I can't. But now I am thinking if China or Kasachstan are third world or developing.....

But anyway for the majority of the non-western-world countries it is just true.

I like the comfort and stability and being able to trust people.

And isn't that the great thing about travel. You can decide where you want to go.

If you don't want to go, then don't.

And who cares if you pay more? Funny thing is that you said that right after talking about going to the resorts. That's even worse and makes the extra they charge you on the street seem tiny in comparison.

Thanks god, no indian hotel owner read this board where I told that I had 500k put on saving accounts.

I'm gonna buy the perfect super bum suit so that no one will ever dare to scam me.

Spoiler:

@Dodsy : thanks for your comment, and yeah I agree and that's the why I have decided to make this jump so that I have zero regret when I die. Life's too short and can end anytime to waste it.

op - just read through the rest of your thread. Good times.

A few thoughts:

I've been doing this for just over 3 years now. My thread is here if interested.

There is a dengue vaccine. Just developed. Going through approval in various countries, so access is limited right now, but it's out there (for one of the serotypes, anyway) if you're interested.

If you don't already have a typhoid vaccine, you definitely want to get that. Also, Hepatitis A&B.

The yellow fever vac was a good idea. I carry my card around with me but have never needed to show it to anyone. You generally only need to show it if you've been a country with a yellow fever problem in the prior 6 days.

I'm in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia right now. India is a few months out for me, and I'll be doing a counterclockwise circle like another poster did. Looking forward to reading your notes on it.

lol @ the haters. Live your life, don't worry about them.

@Lonelybox : Lol

@Chopstick : Very great thread you have ! I loved the "around the world without a plane" theme" I've got all my vaccines done, I just have to finish the rabbies vaccine process (2nd shot tomorrow morning and last one in 2 weeks and just 2 days before I take my 1st flight).
You're right about haters and anyway I seriously don't care, they are just losing time&energy with me

****, still dunno about what I should do when facing the crazy monkey ! RIP me

You're right, don't have condoms. Don't think that India is a place where you can get laid (besides maybe with crazy monkeys)

You have too many toiletries. There are stores in the rest of the world. You don't need to pack like a Sherpa heading for base camp.

if you don't want to look like a tourist, don't pack clothes. buy new clothes locally whenever you land

I love the idea, thanks for the suggestion !

However, for now I don't have that much :
- 2 trousers
- 1 pair of shoes
- 2 t shirt
- 2 shirts (1 short sleeves, 1 long sleeves)
- socks x 4 and pants x 4
- 1 "yoga trousers" very light and sweet (which can be used as pyjama, or to be at my ease when I'm in my hotel/hostel room)
- 1 damart if it gets a bit chill
- 1 pair of havaianas flip flops
- sunglasses and top hat

And that's it. Is that too much ?

No shorts?

I left with

1 x Jeans
1 x Shorts
5ish shirts
1 x jumper
5ish pairs of socks
5ish boxer shorts
1 x Sunglasses

But like mentioned before they sell stuff around the world so it doesn't really matter. Everyone gets so worried about what they take, but in the end it doesn't matter.
