Even insanely volatile and violent people have dogs or cats that they really love. Mostly, It is their only solace within their perverse world.

Anarchy can hardly be overrated. It’s what most deserve. Especially in the UK or Ireland.

Re: I'm going to change the world

I'm not sure I've ever had a beigel before, but there is queue outside, and snaking around inside this place, even on a Covid Tuesday afternoon. It is ludicrously cheap and good.

They're slightly sticky on the outside, and for the first bite it's like the dough is too heavy; but then, if there is exactly the correct proportion of smoked salmon and cream cheese inside, it is the real deal. Especially when you walk down to Star Yard and see about four Fanakapans on the wall, amongst all the trash and parked cars. The world's greatest living artist. I'd post pictures of them, but can't find any. It's all way too exclusive for that.

Re: I'm going to change the world

I'll throw in another authentic East End bakery:

You'll have to go more into the hinterland to find it. It's near the school in Stepney I taught in ten years ago, and the same women were working there the other morning as they were then. They do good bread rolls. Why these decent, family-run places lose out to branded, exploitative, multinational bullshit is beyond me. You people who read my blog are intelligent enough. Explain that to me.

I'd explain it to you but I know you can't afford my fee. I charge 1,000 pounds as a nominal cost, plus 10 pounds per word. Intelligent people never do anything for free.

By the way, that second bakery you posted about should be renamed:Johnny With Balls Bakery.

Much more fitting for the East End. And it is on my list for places to visit the next time I'm in London Town.

Re: I'm going to change the world

if they cant spell bagel how can they bake it. a good bagel is always boiled.

people go to the chains because they always have what is on the menu. its cheaper usually. and easier access. as people are lazy.
mine was free so take it for what it is worth.

Think so. Here's another one from yesterday. No prizes for guessing who the handsome fellow standing next to it is.

Do they still have Sports Day? We used to call it Field Day, but I never see one going on at local elementary schools.

Re: I'm going to change the world

They call it Field Day at the beginning of the vid, and Sports Day at the end. I've never before heard it called Field Day. They still had Sports Day at the secondary school I worked in.

Re: I'm going to change the world

So I'm back in Star Yard, just off Brick Lane, checking the Fanakapans. Only two cars parked in there this time, out of one of which some guy is taking cans of spray paint from the boot. Um, are you Fanakapan? Nah, but I know him, though. What's your name, then? What, my artist name? Yeah. Dan Kitchener. Dan Kitchener? You're Dan Kitchener?! Before I know it, I'm turning into Mark Chapman, telling him my life story, asking for his autograph, apologizing for being such a knobhead fanboy. I haven't asked for anyone's autograph since I was a kid. WTF is wrong with me? He's here to repair one of his works, on Hanbury St. Someone's painted on it. Well, what do you expect? Yeah, I know, but... . Man, to be a good artist.

Midnight Drive.

Re: I'm going to change the world

Dan Kitchener. I can see how he could do some of that stuff with an airbrush and six months time, but on the sides of buildings with cans of spray paints?

Maybe you're thinking of Lord Kitchener.
