I'm not sure I've ever had a beigel before, but there is queue outside, and snaking around inside this place, even on a Covid Tuesday afternoon. It is ludicrously cheap and good.



They're slightly sticky on the outside, and for the first bite it's like the dough is too heavy; but then, if there is exactly the correct proportion of smoked salmon and cream cheese inside, it is the real deal. Especially when you walk down to Star Yard and see about four Fanakapans on the wall, amongst all the trash and parked cars. The world's greatest living artist. I'd post pictures of them, but can't find any. It's all way too exclusive for that.

Before I know it, I'm turning into Mark Chapman, telling him my life story, asking for his autograph, apologizing for being such a knobhead fanboy. I haven't asked for anyone's autograph since I was a kid. WTF is wrong with me? He's here to repair one of his works, on Hanbury St. Someone's painted on it. Well, what do you expect? Yeah, I know, but... . Man, to be a good artist.
