2022-6-22: Visalia Rawhide (A, D'backs 1-0) @ Inland Empire 66ers (Angels 1-1)

Sabo the dog didn't bite me, as we watched Bark in Petco Park on tv. He's a good guy !!!1! If he had went, the D'backs would have been eliminated from the SDDC with last night's 2-3 loss in 11 innings. As it is, the D'backs stay alive, at least for another day. This will be Sabo's 6th visit to San Bernardino's San Manuel Stadium.

Speaking of Sabo's baseball schedule, it has been adjusted. The Rockies have now gained eligibility. As the schedule now stands: A Rawhide win eliminates the Angels and yet to play Rockies; a 66er win eliminates the D'backs. Source: Captains, the official site of All-Star Sabo-Metrics.

Getting to the games, and getting back safely, are part of these outings too. Safely, as we were reminded coming back from Rancho Cucamonga a couple of weeks. The stretch of I-15 where the car driving back from a game was totaled has been rebuilt. Nobody was hurt thankfully, including Sabo the dog, who was closest to the point of impact.

Last week we drove, took a Lyft, and Sabo rode his very first real train (he has also been on a couple of tourist trains: from Felton to Santa Cruz, and in Poway). We drove from San Diego to the Perris-South Metrolink station; took a Lyft the 2.3 miles into downtown Perris ($16.79 inc tip); rode the train back to Perris-South ($2); then continued the drive to San Bernardino (~$80 r/t). Shortly we're going to Lyft to where my car was being worked on, then drive to Lake Elsinore.

In the SDDC race, the D'backs organization dodged three bullets on three consecutive days last week. As mentioned, on Tuesday I dropped the ball, and didn't take Sabo to see the MLB team at Petco Park. Their loss in that game would have eliminated them. Wednesday, we made the trip up to San Bernardino. That game was suspended without a score after the 4th because, I guess, there was lightning in the area. Pre-covid, this partial game would have been cancelled instead of suspended. If it was cancelled, it would have literally been a "double elimination" game, as both the D'backs (Visalia Rawhide) -and- Angels (Inland Empire 66ers) organizations would have been eliminated, while the yet to play Rockies would remain alive. The third bullet was the Rawhide still had to win the completion of the Wednesday on Thursday. Which they did 3-2, eliminating the Angels and Rockies.

2022-6-29, 6:05pm: Inland Empire 66ers (A, Angels 1-2) @ Lake Elsinore Storm (Padres 1-0)

This will be Sabo's 4th visit to Lake Elsinore's Diamond. In the SDDC race, after dodging those three bullets last week, the D'backs organization (2-0) is in first and, as the schedule now stands, safely in the clubhouse. In fact, they clinch the SDDC championship with a 66ers win tonight. Source: Captains, the official home of All-Star Sabo-Metrics.

This isn't Sabo last game of the season... however, as the schedule now stands, this is the final. Sabo' Padres Single A team, the Lake Elsinore Storm, set this all up with a 7-6 11-inning victory in game #8 back on June 29th. Sabo, as always, enjoyed his trip to Lake Elsinore... and I enjoyed that Elsinore is the closest of the three Inland Empire MiLB teams. Fittingly, Sabo is back to viewing MLB action, as the SDDC is decided.

Game #9: Colorado Rockies @ San Diego Padres; August 1st, 6:40 pm. A San Diego win would clinch the 2022 SDDC Championship with a 3-0 organizational record. OTOH a Rockies win would clinch the Championship for the D'backs, with a 2-0 organizational record. Source: Captains.

This is Sabo the dog's last game of the season. This means his Padres won the 2022 SDDC Championship with their 4-1 victory in game #9. All hail Sabo's Padres, who went 3-0 in their championship campaign !!!1! The Rockies finish at 0-1.

Game #10: San Francisco Giants @ Los Angeles Dodgers; September 5th, 7:10 pm.

Both teams have been eliminated from SDDC contention. The 2021 champ Giants organization are 0-2 while the 2018-2020 champs Dodgers are 1-1. With the current heat wave, we're going to sizzle on the drive up to LA w/o any AC. At least the sun will be down, or at worst behind the 3b stands, at first pitch. No matter what, it can't be worse than the heat at the 2015 LA dog game. Source.

The Giants won game #10 by a score of 7-4 over the Dodgers. The drive up was hot... Sabo puked in La Mirada. He hadn't eaten yesterday, so it was just a small amount of bile. I cleaned him up, he drank some iced water, and he felt much better. Luckily, there wasn't that much traffic on the holiday... three hours up, two hours back. The sun was behind the 3rd base stands at game time, so we didn't sizzle during the game. Compared to the opening of Snapdragon Stadium two days before... a 12:30 start... this outing was dramatically more comfortable. Source.

As for game #10 in Rancho... we were joined once again by my old friend Larry Kimmel. I good time was had by all, except Sabo was disappointed that Ontario's Littleton Ball Park was empty and locked up tight, and that his Padres farm team lost 2-4.

There were also three baseball Sabo Bowls at Petco Park earlier this season. I went to all... Sabo went to none. I came into the series with taunting|yapping rights over Sabo. He gained taunting|yapping rights over after Sabo Bowl #232. However, because of the Series Rule, and my Red Sox winning the series, those rights reverted back to me two days later on May 23. Note: Sabo Bowls are not numbered consecutively, and there have been only a few so far.

As for the SDDC race... the Royals have already clinched the championship. That leaves one last game for Sabo to attend this season...

2023 Recap

It's always a bit melancholy when a baseball season comes to an end. Of course, Sabo's Padres aren't done quite yet, and Sabo will always "keep the faith" until they are mathematically eliminated. But he ain't going to any more games in person, so it had that feeling. However, looking past Sabo's Padres losing 1-3, a great time was had by all. That Sabo... he's a good guy !!!1!

Game #1, April 3: Card's @ Padres.

It's another baseball season... and of course that means another Sabo's Dog Day Championship !!!1! Once again, minor league games count for the parent organization, and only games Sabo personally attend count. One thing we know for sure is that there will be a new SDDC champion, as the defending Royals have no Sabo games. Game #1 is an elimination game for the Cards, OTOH a Card's victory would eliminate the yet to play Cubs.

Game #1 Result: Sabo's Padres eliminated the Card's by a score of 3-2. Sabo had an especially good time on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon... between innings he was rolling around on the new grass of the significantly remodeled Gallagher Square (fka The Park at the Park). He's a good guy !!!1!

Game #2, April 10: Stockton (A A's) @ Rancho Cucamonga (Dodgers).

It's a busy start to Sabo's baseball season with his second game in a week. It's my third game, as I took the train to Anaheim Sunday to see my Red Sox. He grudgingly stayed home to guard the house that day. There won't be any such staying home today, as we're off to Loanmart Field in Rancho Cucamonga for some Caloop action. He's a good guy !!!1!

This is a double elimination game in the SDCC race.

Game #3, April 16, 6:40 pm: Cubs @ D'backs.

Sabo's busy start of the season continues tomorrow in Phoenix. It'll be our 21st overnight baseball road trip together, and our second visit to Chase field.

This is another double elimination game in the SDCC race. In addition, a D'backs win eliminates the yet to play Rockies and Mariners.

[b[Game 2 result[/b]: Sabo had a great time at the game. Once again our good friend Larry Kimmel joined as at the Quakes game. This time he got a buddy of his season tickets, and we literally had the best seats in the house. The Quakes, the Dodgers Single A team, beat the Ports 4-0. That eliminated the A's organization from the SDDC race.
