I've been living in Vegas for just about 2 years now. I moved here from CA and it was one of the best decisions that I have ever made. I have a good career with clients that I (generally) enjoy and I live a great lifestyle.

But there's still some things that I want to accomplish in Vegas as a local. So I thought I'd start a blog to track my progress as I attempt some crazy stunts.

I am open to suggestions on other stunts to try, but here's my list so far:
  1. Pay my rent for one month with nothing but video poker winnings
  2. Become a Caesars Diamond member

Feel free to post some of your ideas in this thread. Please don't post obvious things about dating strippers or things like that. I only want stunts that relate to gambling in some way.

Can't wait.

Play in either Bobby's Room or Ivey's Room.

Oh those are good ones! I have no idea what kind of stakes we are talking about though. Anyone know?

I think in Ivy's Room the minimum buy-in is 25k while at Bobby's Room the minimum buy-in is 40k.

Interesting. I do have a bankroll for this, and a healthy one at that. But I'm not sure if I have the roll for this kind of buy-in. It's a good suggestion though, these are exactly the type of challenges that I'm looking to take on.

Video Poker - Day 1

I just paid my rent for the month of July. Between now and 8/1 I need to raise $725 from video poker (VP) in order for this challenge to be successful.

I will be trying to do this with Full Pay Deuces Wild. It's a game that I've played before and I enjoy it. It's not too difficult to learn and you can crank out a small edge at it. Here's the basic strategy that I'm using: http://wizardofodds.com/games/video-...ll-pay/simple/

Most Stations casinos in Vegas offer a version of the game that has an edge. Plus, after reading the Bob Dancer books, I know that I can expect to have a negative swing down to 1.5x a Royal Flush cycle. For this game, at a base bet of $0.25, it means that I need to have a roll of $1500 - not a problem.

Here's a pic from Day 1, buying in for $200 and making sure the pay table is what I need (it is).

My local Stations has a 7PM poker tourney that offers a bonus if you sign up at least one hour ahead of time. So, that's a decent setup for VP. I can get there early, sign up for the bonus, get some VP in and then play in the poker tourney. That's what I did for my Day 1. The result was that I lost $75 at VP and I min-cashed at the poker tourney. Not a bad start.

I was also writing down hands that gave me trouble so that I could look them up afterwards. I need to review my results on a daily basis to make sure that I'm not fooling myself thinking that I have an edge when I really don't - very dangerous!

Video Poker - Day 2
I played for 1:15 today and this happened:

So that was pretty good. It made for a good result. However, I woke up with a tickle in my throat this morning so I wasn't feeling 100%. I wanted to put more hours but I decided to stop in order to prevent myself from making mistakes. So I'm claiming +$140 for 1:15 today. Not too bad

I'm not feeling 100% so VP is still on hold today. But I'm feeling well enough for some World Cup action.

I used to work for IBM and I've done contracts all over the world, including Colombia. I spent a month there a few years back. I don't even care if the ticket wins, I think Colombians are cool people and want to cheer them on today. Fawk Brazil

I remain under then weather today so I'm not playing any VP. I'm also passing up a poker tourney satellite tonight (WPT 500 at Aria) because I'm not feeling well. I'm not exactly dying but when my money is on the line I want to make sure that I'm playing my best and today is not one of those days.

Playing well enough to try the $300 deepstack at the Wynn. Brought my lucky shamrock for the final table.

Feel free to suggest more. If it's interesting and gambling related I might just do it

I've finally recovered enough where I'm back out and playing. I don't think I'm going to make my rent on VP alone this month but I tried. Regardless I'm going to keep going.

Right now I've got a pretty good cycle going: I like playing poker at Station casinos. And some of them also have profitable VP. So I can put my name down on the list and play VP while I play. Or I can take a bad poker beat and then play some VP to cool off. That's a pretty good cycle of things to take up my time will (hopefully) being profitable at the end of the month.

More VP to come soon. My current tally stands at being down $100 for the month.
