Re: biggerboat's building boondoggle blog

he gave me an update.

He said "the boat is ready to have the floor cut". I don't believe I'm being paranoid in thinking he hasn't done any work on it whatsoever.

He didn't update me on when he tanks are arriving. He also said he needs to drain the gas out of the old ones and he is working on getting barrels so he hasn't done that. He estimated 2 weeks once tanks get there.

Also, a hurricane is making a beeline to his place.

Re: biggerboat's building boondoggle blog

I just don't know how to deal with this anymore.

We had discussed two add-ons - a windshield and the tackle box. He texted me this morning to find out what tackle box I wanted.

The other issue we discussed quite some time ago was the durability of the trailer. He had hinted that it might be a good idea to do a little work on it to make sure it would make the long trip here. I agreed to pay for any work that would be needed.

So, I just texted him this:

"What is the labor cost for the tackle station and windshield? Also, what is the status of the trailer? Is it sound enough to make the trip here?"

He replied:

"The tackle station is probably a 10 minute install if we just mount the tabs on the leaning post and sit on the floor. I liked that 1 because it had some little trays and things on top."

Am I paranoid or is he being deliberately obtuse and/or not answering my questions?

Re: biggerboat's building boondoggle blog

major upgrades on a boat with the delays in getting parts takes many months to finish. and he has to juggle other business as well or they go elsewhere.
you are going to have to tough it out. and he has shown he is going to take his sweet time.
if you bug him too much you will make him mad and then what you get will be sub par work.
im not in florida now so storms are just property damage.

good luck on the boat. after its done you will forget about the time you had to wait.

Re: biggerboat's building boondoggle blog

OK, so I sent him a pretty long email and he called me back immediately.

I mean, ray is right but his communication is beyond horrible.

We spent about 45 minutes talking everything through and I honestly can't fault him for delays here but I did let him know his communication left a lot to be desired. He told me that he completely understands and he gets that from a lot of his customers.

He told me that one of the delays with the tanks was the tank people weren't clear on the exact tank size for this year of boat and had to get him to measure them. I'm sure this cost a few days. He also said he touched base with them last week and got the same answer - hopefully next week. He said he sent them another text today to get an update.

Basically, I told him that so much of this could be avoided if he simply shot me a quick text every week. He agreed.

Good stuff. Yeah, that's a 2004 and they had issues. I had the option of not replacing them but I figured they were close to needing to go.

Re: biggerboat's building boondoggle blog

My Mom is 94 (maybe 93).

She has congestive heart failure. This isn't new - she's had it for quite some time. But it has been managed.

For those of you not familiar, the heart just doesn't pump efficiently. One of the most noticeable symptoms is swelling due to water retention. Other symptoms are shortness of breath and cough from congestion.

Early on it is manageable. Well, the disease itself isn't really, but the symptoms are. The condition itself is progressive and will continue to worsen.

Mom has been doing really well recently. In fact, we have all marveled at how well she has been doing.

But last week she took a turn for the worse. Almost overnight. She swelled up like never before. Coughing a lot and getting confused. The doctor prescribed some other diuretics since it isn't uncommon for one to stop working effectively. My wife also suggested that, since she is confused, she might have a urinary tract infection.

Nothing seems to be working. She is coughing more than normal. Still very confused. She seems to be too weak to get out of her chair and walk with the walker anymore. The swelling has not gone down. She has lost her appetite. I looked all of this up and these are all signs of late stage CHF.

I talked to my sister this morning, and she is doing better. The test for UTI did come back positive so we are hoping the infection is what knocked her down. She is on antibiotics and they have adjusted her diuretic dosages.

Fingers crossed.

best wishes and sometimes it hurts but we have to accept and even welcome the inevitable, as nature rules and it all works out for the best in the long run.

Re: biggerboat's building boondoggle blog

Thanks guys. Yeah Ray, I'm actually amazed she's been here this long.

My father was never at peace with life or death. My mother is at peace with both.

She is feeling a bit better but she still cannot move around on her own. She has caregivers around the clock but my sister hired an additional man to help them move her.

Re: biggerboat's building boondoggle blog

In covid news.

The facility my wife works in has had quite a few folks get the virus. I'm not sure why but they have all been in the unit where the dementia patients are. Up to now, it has been restricted to absolutely necessary people.

My wife's company is now saying she needs to go in there. Most of those patients do not respond to therapy. It's just not a population that my wife generally deals with.

This is all about money. The bean counters are trying to get any business they can, putting dollars ahead of people.

My wife is freaking out. She is going to fight this. There is no sound medical reason for her to be there.

Re: biggerboat's building boondoggle blog

you can always so no to something. and she wont regret it a year from now even if she loses her job. but more likely that wont happen as they are probably short staffed already.
and if they treat her badly now then that is the future in that job.

my girl friends uncle just died of the virus in florida he was 72. it was expected.
so its happening

Mom is in and out. Mostly out, but I was able to talk to her on the phone for a couple of minutes.

Flying out there this afternoon.

Re: biggerboat's building boondoggle blog

There is so much to say about death.

I'm here with mom and it feels like a repeat of dad. She will go slowly. It is tough to watch.

So many go suddenly and people feel cheated that they couldn't say a proper goodbye. But I'm not convinced it is worse than this. Not convinced it is better either.

I just know this isn't easy.

Mom has a LOT of friends. There has been a constant stream of people coming in to say goodbye. She is still somewhat responsive and seems to be aware of who is here at the time. But only for a moment then drifts off.

Re: biggerboat's building boondoggle blog

Mom lives in a small condo complex with limited parking. Everyone that lives here is fully aware of the situation.

Everyone here has been great except for one relentlessly unpleasant woman. She stands outside and berates anyone that doesn't park in the limited spaces that mom has. She screamed at the hospice nurse yesterday.

Unbelievable how horrible some people can be.

I'm glad that your Mom and her friends are having a chance to connect. Must be really tough for you, trying to manage the stream.

WTF on the neighbor though?

Continued best wishes.

Re: biggerboat's building boondoggle blog

Thanks golddog.

I'm exhausted. We thought for sure she was going earlier today. She even said she was ready to go. But her body isn't quite.

After that a lot of people stopped in. I'm happy they did but it is a lot to absorb.

Just a lot.......

Sorry to hear about BiggerMom. Although it is very cool she has so many people she's connected with.

And good job on your end too - being there and helping.

Re: biggerboat's building boondoggle blog

Mom is still holding on. It is amazing.

Yesterday morning her pulse was 36 and they couldn't even get a BP reading.

Last night some of her friends came over and she was aware of what was going on around her.

She is talking a lot right now but not making a lot of sense.

When she is able to verbalize it she keeps saying she is ready to go.

Re: biggerboat's building boondoggle blog

Mom made it through another night. It is mind boggling to me.

She occasionally "wakes up" and talks. Some of the time she is aware of us, sometimes she is not.

She has "talked" to people in her life that have died. Yesterday she said "strangely enough I am talking to Ken". Ken is my Dad.

She has several times mentioned one particular friend of hers that died quite some time ago. Each time she said Jane "needed" something.

Once she said she was talking to her new friend but didn't know her name. She even asked out loud "will you tell me your name?"

Re: biggerboat's building boondoggle blog

Her friends are treating this like a big party. They come over every evening and have a happy hour. I guess this is ok. Mom had these parties a lot. I guess she probably would have wanted this. Yesterday, though she made it clear that she didn't want anyone there.

It is certainly adding to my stress levels that I have to entertain a bunch of people I barely know.

Great job managing this for her and everyone else. It sounds like you're really doing everything you absolutely can to help her and her friends have the best version of this experience possible.
