See, this is the thing. It's not about that at all. It's about my inner dialogue and having to take a stand one way or another on something that I'm conflicted about.

I feel uncomfortable leaving other employees and my manager in this position. I do have a sense of duty no matter the circumstances. But I don't feel good about working there given my wife's situation.

No matter what I do, I just won't feel good about it.

From a lot of folks that frequent the bait shop. There is a different culture around here than you have probably been exposed to. People that make their living fishing are salt of the earth. They are tough, hardworking people and all about personal freedom. Although I don't agree with a lot of how they think, I also don't disparage this sort of mindset like many do. I guess it's because I've come to know them fairly well.

What kind of position are you leaving them in? I assume you are some kind of normal hourly employee - two weeks notice is ideal but given the circumstances I really think as long as you communicate to them where you're at then you're being very fair to them.

As for the mask-shaming. It's not a mind-set, it's lack of an ability to think critically or have an actual mind - belittling others for wearing masks is only detrimental, there's no flip side.

Not good, but they can handle it. They were letting one guy go, the guy getting tested is out, and now me. They will figure it out, but others will have to work a lot more than they normally do.

If the owner was making a point to be careful, I believe I would stay. It wouldn't be all that hard but it needs to be supported and enforced from the top. I believe the employees and the customers would fall in line if she lead the charge.

Well, sounds like they will be fine and you will be too. The new boat project is pretty exciting so hopefully that can help distract you from everything .

Texted the boat guy to get an update.

He said one trolling motor is in now so we are good to go there. He said the tanks should come in the week after next

I texted him back to ask when he thought they would get started. He texted me back "we have started". I'm not sure what that means.

I have to fight the urge to micromanage this. Not hearing for a week makes my brain go places it shouldn't.

My wife is really the bigger worrier between us and she keeps reminding me that he has done everything he said he would so far so I should stop worrying.

My wife and I went fishing with one of my friends this morning. He has almost the identical boat. It was pretty rough and it is amazing how well the boat rides. I cannot wait.

Sooo....

The guy at the shop finally got his results back. Positive. He is coming back to work after his 14 days. I'm not sure how anyone decided when the fourteen days started but he's coming back. I don't think he is getting any more tests to see if he is now negative.

They told another employee that she has to get tested and can't come back until she gets results. I believe this is totally unrelated.

There have been quite a few people, residents and staff, coming down with it at my wife's work. Four residents have now died due to it.

In totally unrelated news, my PC is now in an infinite loop of repairing my disk, rebooting, then repairing again.

Phone posting sucks.

Book news.

My sister has arranged for my books to be sold at a local (Austin) store. I think it is a toy store but I'm not sure. I sent her some copies but it might take a month for them to get there due to delays at the printer.

In the mean time, she suggested I print the welcome page of the website as a promo page.

I went into the web hosting site and everything has changed. I clicked something an all of the sudden my web page was completely was completely different in the editor. I closed it in hopes that the changes would not take and now my website is not accessible. Groan. Why does everything have to be so damn hard.

Called bluehost and the guy was useless. He clicked on the web page and said it looked just fine. It didn't. He told me it was because I had several upgrades that I hadn't applied. I applied them and the page was still messed up.

I went back in to begin the slow painful process of restoring it back to the original. Somehow I was lucky enough to click some button that put it back the way it was. I have no clue what I clicked to mess it up, or what I clicked to fix it but I'm very happy I don't have to start all over again.

I talked to the owner of the marina today. There are three bait shop folks out right now. The girl waiting on a test, an older guy, and me. They have a couple of college kids working a lot of hours right now.

She was perfectly fine with my decision. Her dad, who is the real owner, is a big risk. She said he rarely comes in now, and he ducks out whenever a customer comes in. So, she sort of gets it.

I think she wasn't sure if I was ever coming back. I told her that when things settle down somewhat I might possibly return.

More confirmed cases at my wife's work. I believe it is up to 21 residents and 19 employees. Still 4 deaths. I believe this is a pretty good illustration of the fact that temperature checks aren't very effective since everyone that enters the building is checked.

My wife is finally getting fitted for an N95. She is also now required to wear a face shield.

Thanks.

The news is getting grimmer there. They have had 14 residents die of covid now. I'm unsure on the total number of workers and residents that have tested positive.

arrgghh....

I haven't heard from the boat guy in 2 weeks now. I am trying reeeallll hard not to be that guy that is being difficult. However, I sent him a text yesterday asking for an update and he did not respond. So, I sent a lengthy email expressing my frustration.

to be continued.........

Well, we had a few back and forths, but I'm still not sure where we are with the boat.

He said his car accident set everything back a month. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt with this one, up to a point. From what I can tell on his website it was more like 2-3 weeks but I won't quibble.

He is now telling me the tanks will take another 1-2 weeks. Back in June he let me know that he had called the tank place and they told him 2 weeks. He added that this would save an additional 2 weeks on the estimated time. It has been a month. Additionally, 2 weeks ago he said it would be this week. So now he's added 2 weeks to that. I called him out on this one. He said it was the busy season and covid and blah blah. Not too happy with his response.

He is now telling me that work will continue on the tanks in 2 weeks. And, he "assures" me that this is is #1 priority.

I'm skeptical.

I understand where I think you're coming from, boat. Can't stand people who aren't proactive in communicating issues.

If something comes up, contact me to let me know things are delayed. We'll work it out.

When I have to take the initiative to find out you are having problems, that's going to piss me off.

Still, it does seem like your boat guy is genuine. Hope it works out for you.

Boat guy just texted me. He wants to know what tackle box i want to order. This is an add-on. I haven't told him so far because I don't know if it adds to the timeline or not.

He still hasn't given me any sort of feeling for where we are in the project. The only update I have been given is that the trolling motor is here and the tanks are not.

I told him that I'm hesitant to do the tackle box because I'm not sure what is going on. He then texted me back that he needs to get this ordered and then said "what do you need from me?"

I don't know if this is a clash of communication or not. Like he doesn't communicate and I need more than usual communication.

This is not helping my current anxiety level at all. I don't even want to deal with this at all. My plan was to just ignore this altogether, then he sends this text.
