Hi, all.

Sorry I haven't been updating much. If it wasn't obvious from the last few posts, I binked myself a WSOPc ring while up in Tahoe for the weekend. The feeling of winning the tournament was surreal. Opponents were tough and it wasn't an easy ride. I got into a couple of great spots and sailed through the final table.

With that being said, I've caught the tournament bug. I've played a total of 7 events this year and cashed in 3 of them. Event #6 at the WSOP, I got 98th out of 6300+. Then I played one of the Rio Carnivale tourneys the next day and placed 11th out of 230+. Lastly, I just took down a ring event. I know, small sample size, but I'm really juiced to keep up the rungood. Part of me has entertained the idea of following the circuit around the country, but it's hard to just leave a good, stable job that I do find myself enjoying at times. (Right now we're coming up to the end of the year and it's f'in hectic!)

Well, I don't have the time to be very detailed and go deep into my thoughts and feelings, but I'm sure you can all imagine. I'm turning 29 this month and the clock's ticking. If I wanna take a shot it'll have to be soon... right?

11/16 - Thunder Valley Norcal Classic Main Event ($1k)
11/24 - Lucky Chances Gold Rush Main Event ($1k)
11/30 - Bellagio Five Diamond Classic prelim ($1.5k)

Let's do this! If I final table in any of those events I have to do a half-day on the following Monday. I'm sure my boss won't mind when I deposit the winnings into my account here with the firm, lol.

Well, still running good. Wish I had at least final tabled again, because that would be quite the accomplishment. I should just be thankful to have made it as far as I did, though, as I was nursing a short stack for much of the later rounds that I survived. The idea of binking another tourney and just leaving it all behind to travel the circuit has been lingering in my head. I think it's affecting my work productivity, but hopefully this will soon pass.

I'm turning 29 on Thanksgiving Day, is it getting close to being too late to take my shot? If I leave my job and try this out for a couple of years, but want to come back, will opportunities still be there? Maybe a career change would be necessary if I want to start working again.

The semi-professional life remains good. I'm making a good amount of money (pay raise at work, cash game income, tournament scores)... but it's all about that dream. I'm content, but I want to be happy.

you seem quite thoughtful for a still relatively young man. I, of course, do not know your finances, bankroll, etc., but as far as poker, how much stress would be put upon your game if it was sole source of income? Might be a semi-professional life might be the best way to go right now.

Thank you for your words. I have absolutely no obligations right now except for rent and insurance (slight brag). Bankroll is healthy. (another small brag) I have been spending liberally on fine dining, though. (leak)

Hopefully I've patched up a couple of huge leaks. (re: pit, sc's) That will give my liferoll the bigger padding it needs in case I do decide to turn my back on work. Which I probably won't, unless something drastic happens like getting laid off.

But it feels like I'm looking for the change to happen, instead of making it happen myself...

If I bink another one in the near future, I will be about 50/50 on making a move.

It's gotta be a sign! Haha.

I think the hardest part for me is to gain my parents acceptance of doing this. As Asians, we're expected to be successful professional people. They don't understand that poker is a skill game with lots of mathematical evidence.

I think the recent tournament score and results this past year have been key in gaining my parents trust. That being said, I don't think they'll ever be as content with me doing poker full time compared to having a career.

Busted out of the Lucky Chances 100k guarantee-to-first rather early. Had QQ on the button and shoved over a raise and a limp with 20BB. Small blind woke up with AA. Four way all-in. None of us bink a set. Good game. It was a very standard situation, but I couldn't help feeling slightly depressed. I was really looking for this tournament to be a sign--to be that last push I need to pull the trigger and go full-time. Instead, I used my $5 voucher and had a BLT in that warehouse of a cardroom before driving back to my "home" casino. Had a breakeven session and quit early because my head just wasn't in the game. Pulled up to the bar for a drink and the bartender snap-called me out my depression.

This entire weekend I feel like I've been getting messages to go do what I want to do. While I was at the dentist I mentioned that I'd be going to Vegas this weekend. My dentist then got really enthusiastic about my youth (or remainder of) and told me that I needed to enjoy while I could. Then while playing some 2-3-5, a dealer was talking to me about how his wife absolutely enjoys what she does (preschool teacher) despite the fact that it pays crap. Just constant reminders of this dream I want to chase.

Clock's ticking.
Happy Monday.
Happiness Rating: 4/10

Well also for me the risk. I don't have the stable career you have. I've bounced around a lot of jobs already. So if I leave the career field it's pretty much gg for me.

I am sure you are playing well and all, but you acknowledged that some run-good as been a part of your tournament success. I am not sure why cashing in another tourney would have been a sign. You seem to want to do it, have the $ to do it, don't have obligations/constraints...be like Nike

I think this will be the end of tourneys for me in 2013. End result: 4 cashes in 10 tourneys, and 1 title. Next year we definitely increase tourney volume.

No tourney scores this time around. My play was rather atrocious--every time I thought I was flipping, I was behind. The trip itself was ridiculously fun--it turned out to be another soul searching experience. I'll try to write up a trip report tonight.

I've also been tasked with driving my mom home from her work for the next 3 days. I think I will try talking to her about my decision to go full time soon. And by soon I mean making the transition by May 2014.
