3Betters 3Betters

So a few days ago I outlined my plans to try and live off of Poker by 2016 by grinding my way up from 5NL using only software I build myself. The idea is that if I start from the very bottom, I can create a platform that contains literally everything a beginner or pro needs to learn, teach, and research that other software might miss out on simply because they were already experienced.

I'm calling the open-sourced project 3Betters, and while initially it was going to be entirely coded for Google Drive I've since switched to WordPress after realizing how slow Drive is . WordPress is neat because you'll be able to export whatever you do on 3Betters to your own WordPress site (or offline) whenever you want...so you're never tied in.

My motivation comes from the fact that Bovada's hand history system is really weak (I'm in the US), that it doesn't support HUD's, that I'm a beginning losing player and I can't pinpoint why like I could if I had PokerTracker. I've played around with some OCR (screen reading) API's and I'm pretty sure that at least by 2015 I'll be able to use it to build a HUD that literally works in any room without a beast of a machine.

So here are a few things that I'll be building into the app over the next 2 years or so:
  • Journal (bc it's a feature of WordPress lol)
  • Bankroll Manager
  • Poker odds calculator with history and comparison charts
  • Memory tools and trainers
  • Hand quizzes and exercises
  • Hand Replayers with guest annotation, sort of how SoundCloud works
  • Hand History converters, importers, and PokerTracker-like charts
  • A desktop app to keep your hand-histories in sync with the site automatically
  • Realtime HUD using OCR technology, so you can play optimally literally everywhere

It'll be completely opensourced and free (I'll post a GitHub link soon). The reason I'm working on this is because I'm already a web developer and it should serve as a nice transition into Poker...and because I want to make friends along the way (hardcore freelancing 8+ years sort of leaves you friendless).

Anyways, I should have a demo up tomorrow-ish that includes a session journal and bankroll manager. After the bankroll manager is finished, I'll start grinding 5NL with a $100 deposit!

I'll probably post updates on both weekly after that.

TL: DR;
I'm going to live off of poker by 2016 by grinding up from 5NL using only apps I build myself.
