I staked someone for some live 1-2 poker. We had a bit of a disagreement. I said this was a nice thing to do. He said the only reason why I did this was for an investment in his playing skills. (He lost every time I staked him, btw).
I can think of a couple reasons where the stakee should be appreciative.
1) The staker is giving you an opportunity that your bankroll wouldn't allow. You are a small/mid stakes tourney player getting staked for the WSOP ME for example, or a 2/5 grinder getting staked for a super soft high stakes game.
2) You are a consistent loser and get staked anyways, its basically charity at that point.
Of course the staker shouldn't demand/require appreciation for a stake. They are doing it b/c they think it is profitable for them. (Unless it is pure charity)
Yes. Hard to believe anyone seeing it any other way.
If someone needs a stake to play, they should be thankful to whoever is staking them. Even if you have a profit motive, so do they. You've definitely gone out of your way by staking them. I would never stake a player without a really solid reason to trust them.
A long time ago used to drive a taxi (lol), and I staked one of my riders who was a casino advantage player (AP). I knew he was good for the money (it was still a relatively small amount). He'd paid up multiple times when I gave him rides on credit. Plus I understood how and why he makes money on the games he plays. It's legitimately +EV, and not blackjack or VP, but it's not gonna make you rich or anything. His main issue was he had a leak, playing -EV games that he enjoys in addition to the +EV stuff.
Hello. How does one go about getting staked in live games? I would always be appreciative to a staker. Just need some help to get started in finding a backer
