Hey guys, it’s been about 4 years since I popped in here (time flies) and I just wanted to chime in with an update. I was one of the original people to get staked by Colin about 5-6 years ago. I didn’t have good Stars stats and graphs but Colin was nice enough to give me a shot on a small stake. I got plugged into a skype group filled with poker chat, as well as some coaching calls and other fun chat banter.
Here’s the thing. If you are looking for the free handout stake even though I can’t speak for Colin, I would guess he would say don’t even submit a request to waste his time. What he and David can do, is provide you not only with the initial stake if you are accepted, but also some guidance and a lot of tools/material used to elevate your game. YOU have to put the work in. They can only provide you the material and maybe extra push to get you going…the rest is up to you.
When I first started I obviously thought I was a little better than what I was and got pounded playing holdem at $0.10/0.25 and higher. Even $0.05/0.10 seemed sort of break even. I got better after using some of the material they offered, the coaching they provided from skype calls, some of the chat in the skype group, and my own work offline. When the stake had ended while we didn’t make a ton of money I had shown improvement and we did make some money. I had also gained a couple of friendships in the process that I still have to this day. It also did get me pumped to keep playing and improve on my own. If I hadn’t gotten that initial boost from the group, I probably would have been done playing right away 5 years ago. When you have some good dudes trying to help, it can only elevate your game (assuming you put in work).
Flash forward a bit later and I added PLO8 to the list of games I learned to play. I now play recreationally and even though I have leaks to work on still in both NL/PLO8, none of this would have happened had I not gotten the chance to get a small stake which sparked my interest in playing poker and getting better.
The last 2 years I played at the WSOP in 5 tournaments making 3 day 2s, 1 day 3, and 2 cashes with one 60th place pretty deep run last year in the Draft Kings.

I wouldn’t have even thought about taking shots and doing these trips, had I not gotten my interest in the game enhanced a ton from the initial stake, coaching, and skype chats that occurred talking about hands years ago. If you are willing to put in the work and want to work with good guys in the business, here is where you start that journey. It’s a no brainer.
