hey all, guess i'll come out of the shadows. i recognize many of you from the games, i'm thefox_nyc. i know i'm pretty bad for a "reg" but am trying to work on that. i started as a limit player on wpex, probably was a breakeven player / small winner when i wasn't tilting, but i put in insane volume and made some decent money from the rakeback. once that site all but died i came to pokerstars. long story short i was terrible with tilt and bankroll management, every time i'd get my br to 3 or 4k i'd take a shot at 10-20 and get destroyed. so in 2009 i switched to mttsng's and i'd consider myself much more of an mttsng player now.
but so recently i've been getting back into LHE because as a SN the vpp's/rb are pretty sweet, it's a lot easier to grind than 12-20 sng's and the winrate seems better too (though i'm not sure of this).
i have two specific questions i was hoping some of you could give insight into.
the first is, for those who put in a lot of volume, with regard to swings and what's "typical", if that even exists. it seems like one week i win 1500 and feel like this is a super easy game, then the next week i lose 1000 and feel like i'm not a winning player. i drop down stakes, re-focus, play less tables, then win 1500 the next week, only to have the same thing happen the following week and lose a lot again. i guess what i'm wondering about is whether or not this is normal variance, or if it's more likely due to bad play and/or tilt. i know i'm not immune to tilt, far from it, but i think i'm pretty good about when noticing myself tilting to quit the session, so i find it hard to attribute it to that...but it just seems bizarre that i have this constant pendulum. for the other regs, is it completely standard for you to have +/- 175 bb weeks?
my second question is, i don't use a HUD. i can't really handle more than 4 or 5 tables anyway, so it's not like i have no idea about opponent tendencies etc., but am i putting myself at a major disadvantage? is it really only important if i want to try increasing up to 8 tables or w/e?
thanks in advance and see you at the tables. also, when i spew-raise and get there, i apologize in advance
