In poker, donk betting means betting out of position (you must act first) without the betting initiative (you did not make the last bet or raise on the previous betting round.) It's typically considered an unorthodox and unusual move because the traditional play after passively calling a bet out of position would be to check the next round--a donk bet is unexpected and can throw off your opponent's plans for the hand.

This is as opposed to continuation betting, which is a bet made in or out of position after you have made the last bet or raise on the previous round, and thus have the betting initiative.

The name "donk bet" derives from the common derogatory term "donkey" for bad players, because bad/clueless players will often make this play without knowing why they are doing it, simply because they don't know what's going on.

Why would you ever do that if you are SN and have concierge? (which actually pays slightly more than 0.016 so this change slightly benefits you)

that's cool it's just what you said was totally wrong and it's a common misunderstanding of the term
12-18-2010 , 07:14 AM
like how the **** was it wrong? because you can't donkbet in position? wow that's amazing, I really have to point it out ldo, since I didn't I was totally wrong
lol

chill. you said "it's always a donk if the other guy was the last aggressor on the previous street". This isn't true.

Maybe you just meant to say "it's always a donk if you lead in to the preflop aggressor", but you didn't say that. So what you said was wrong. And I've heard lots of people use the term in the way you define (I've seen in poker videos the term 'donk' applied when it's raised pre, you coldcall in position, the preflop aggressor checks to you, and you bet that's incorrect). So even if what you wrote just wasn't "100% accurate", lots of people think what you wrote is correct, which it isn't. If you're going to try and define something you may as well do it correctly.

because I didn't say you can't donk in position
so if the pf capper or raiser checks to you instead of cbetting and then you bet, then OMFG that's not a donk bet!!
12-18-2010 , 09:28 AM
suck it up brofish, you made a mistake and i corrected you, move on.

This is false. I don't think Wheel is a fish. I think he donk bet like a tard then decided to needlessly bring it to forum.
