I have a comment on this... I kind of agree with this while still support the notion of sexist people being able to make arguments. To be clear - I still there's still value in hearing unpopular and/or controversial ideas. It has value in several ways - for starters, if unpopular-isms are driving certain political ideas and rhetoric in countries then NOT discussing them is ignoring current politics. You lose any chance of changing anyone's minds if one doesn't give the other ideas a voice and attempt to counter them. And, as I've said in the past, I live in a relative liberal bubble. I don't regularly get to interact and get any insight into the minds of overtly religious people, bigots of various kinds, etc. To me, its kind of fascinating.
Back to what I agree with about the above is that there needs to be a distinction between trolls and people otherwise trying to advocate a position I might find offensive. The clearest example I can think of is Sputty vs Mark#### (See any thread about feminism). Sputty posts more so he's probably more widely known. Mark is sporadic. They're BOTH sexist and I find them offensive as people. That being said, I think Sputty isn't trolling while Mark#### does nothing but drop in to make some quick sexist rape joke or the like.
Even though I think Sputty is ignorant and a little offensive, I defend his inclusion in Unchained because I think he actually tries to argue his worldview. I think Mark####, while he hardly posts at all, is completely bannable because he's not only offensive but literally adds nothing to anything.
Regarding the OP - other thoughts - I agree that the Politics proper is kind of slow now and the snarking at each other here is currently more interesting. Also - its a good release to be able to complain about regulars outside of their arguments (for example - determining that Ikes is the worst poster). It can be healthy and fun.
