There should just be consistent standards for keeping idiots in line across the whole forum.

Although if this is an option...

As for why the anti-bigot crowd posts here: because if we didn't this would just be a section of 2p2 that takes it for granted that bigotry is cool. Is that a forum that seems valuable for 2p2 to have?

Also I get to laugh at stupid people here with more relaxed personal attack rules compared to alta.

Again, this is missing the fundamental point that if people don't argue with bigots, nobody is there to tell the bigots they're wrong, and that's not acceptable (see: someoneiswrongontheinternet.png).

You post here because you were banned from a thread in alta that you can't stop tarding up.
Except I posted here long before that thread, during it, and after Wookie banned me from it for hurting Fly's feelings. And only recently did the subject make it's way down here.

Nice try.

You are not doing this as the Batman of PUC. Just lol at the lacking self awareness.

Me telling you you're wrong has done almost nothing, so why do you think you're accomplishing anything different? Do you believe that the people you call bigots are more open-minded than you are?
10-22-2014 , 09:12 AM
The ignore feature needs to be improved (you shouldn't be able to see threads started by people on your ignore list start, and you shouldn't be able to see quoted posts made by people on your ignore list) but it works pretty well otherwise. There is no reason (other than the ones above I guess) to think you have to read posts made by someone you find distasteful. Just put them on ignore and move on imo

Basically the politics alphas want a place to act like politics betas towards politics omegas.

You're actually wrong on that. No matter whether or not I listen to you, or bigots listen to me, your objection is at least on record for others who read the thread.

Now, in your case, that objection comes with the caveat that you're really ****ing stupid and nobody cares what you say, so its effectiveness is in question. But at least you tried!
10-22-2014 , 11:46 AM
Except that I'm obviously not really ****ing stupid. You just don't like/agree with the things that I say. And that's exactly my point. The people you view as bigots are going to view you exactly the same as you view me.
10-22-2014 , 11:47 AM
Regardless of how the bigots view me, many other posters here don't view me that way.

Everyone views you the way I do.
10-22-2014 , 11:49 AM
No, the only people who view me the way you do are other bigots like you. Once again, you're making my point for me.
10-22-2014 , 11:56 AM
We should gather posters like Alex and spank and hold a "dumb off" contest.

People who use the word everyone with italics are dumber than AlexM and are also giant *******s. Oh, that's you, goofyballer.

Why does goofyballer post in unchained? To be an *******. This is no problem in and of itself, but an ******* who misuses the word racist and bigot got some social justice issues to think about.

People still read AlexM whines? He and spanky are like the reason the ignore function was invented.
10-22-2014 , 01:22 PM
alex going hard in the paint with the idea that the real bigots are not white people who hate minorities, but those who call out white people who hate minorities?

brilliant. Exactly what i'd expect from a pathetic troll like him
10-22-2014 , 01:29 PM
White people are really the victims of oppression. They get called dumb for writing gibberish and making really bad arguments all the time.

Who are the people here who hate minorities and when are they being called out?

You're calling out AlexM for rejecting a bunch a bull**** with even more bull****. LOL

You can see skin color and make category judgements of people based on skin color through through the internet? Is that like internet X-ray vision?

It's not about "real" bigots, it's about more bigots. The truth is that we are all bigots in one way or another. The important thing is to strive to be aware of where you might be prejudiced so that you can take your own opinion with a grain of salt.

Yes, and to keep your own assumptions in check as much as possible.

Another reason I read politics in unchained is because I am single
10-22-2014 , 08:19 PM
One reason is to help improve my thinking. By writing things down, I am forced to explain my own thinking in a clear and concise way. Another is to challenge my own views and others views. I like posting when I have an opinion that is different from a popular opinion, that seems to generate the most discussion and often leads me either change my mind, see a different side of an issue, or understand why people think the way they do.

Married life doesn't always change such things

And to also consider the limits of opinion; whether or not an opinion is fictional or non-fictional in quality. Bigotry, prejudice, deals with fictional opinions about non-fictional people.

I'm married with children, but I mostly only post here when I'm on the toilet.

I have a comment on this... I kind of agree with this while still support the notion of sexist people being able to make arguments. To be clear - I still there's still value in hearing unpopular and/or controversial ideas. It has value in several ways - for starters, if unpopular-isms are driving certain political ideas and rhetoric in countries then NOT discussing them is ignoring current politics. You lose any chance of changing anyone's minds if one doesn't give the other ideas a voice and attempt to counter them. And, as I've said in the past, I live in a relative liberal bubble. I don't regularly get to interact and get any insight into the minds of overtly religious people, bigots of various kinds, etc. To me, its kind of fascinating.

Back to what I agree with about the above is that there needs to be a distinction between trolls and people otherwise trying to advocate a position I might find offensive. The clearest example I can think of is Sputty vs Mark#### (See any thread about feminism). Sputty posts more so he's probably more widely known. Mark is sporadic. They're BOTH sexist and I find them offensive as people. That being said, I think Sputty isn't trolling while Mark#### does nothing but drop in to make some quick sexist rape joke or the like.

Even though I think Sputty is ignorant and a little offensive, I defend his inclusion in Unchained because I think he actually tries to argue his worldview. I think Mark####, while he hardly posts at all, is completely bannable because he's not only offensive but literally adds nothing to anything.

Regarding the OP - other thoughts - I agree that the Politics proper is kind of slow now and the snarking at each other here is currently more interesting. Also - its a good release to be able to complain about regulars outside of their arguments (for example - determining that Ikes is the worst poster). It can be healthy and fun.
