$150 billion is essentially the amount you trolls are quibbling about. You don't get to throw 100% of the mandatory health spending on the scale, as if $0 should be spent on a nation's health. I know your high priests would be proud of your soulless sentiment, but Medicare isn't a welfare program, sorry. Neither is other mandatory health spending.

Welfare programs are what get your camp riled up, so let's be honest about what they entail. Total spending on social services is a tiny fraction vs. the Pentagon's budget, to say nothing of spying and surveillance.

If we can afford $1.5T on blowing things up, we can afford to take care of our sick citizens at 1/10 the cost. Shut up.

BS. Employees (us) and employers pay for medicare and social security. Those two social spending items are liabilities for the government, not expenses. For them to tell you it is a line item in the budget, no matter how they account for it after trading the paid in funds for government debt, is disingenuous.

One caveat: there are certainly times where the paid-in funds for those two services have either a surplus or a deficit. Those times would be dealt with as a separate accounting issue.
