I dunno, I guess it never occurred to me that I could not care about the issue. I don't see why I would not care, though. My fellow man is being discriminated against and, were the rolls switched, I would appreciate support anywhere I could get it.

do you? or do you?

going to bat for sklansky senior on this one.

I was, as a younger man, very impressed with the place that hired me during my goth phase. No one else bothered interviewing me. The asst. mgr. said he didn't really care what clothes I was wearing, but thought I looked friendly. Worked there for a long time, until they were bought out, actually.

Been pulled over by the police for being a guy with long hair though. Plenty of little girls asking their mommies why a boy had long hair while in grocery stores. Salesmen addressing me and my girlfriend as "ladies" until they realized I wasn't one. Lots of that stuff.

Simply repeating "no" is not an argument.

there's the whole exchange.

he very clearly admits that he has never been the victim of racism.

but he is also explaining why he cares about racism, despite not being the victim. he had the tiniest taste of discrimination (as i argue we all have) and therefore is able to imagine how bad it would make somebody feel.

i was just screwing around with him, anyway. i never really doubted his stance on the issue. hard to believe things get so warped, so quickly around here.

i have long hair right now, btw.

On occasion I shower, shave and wear pants. I was once at a business and someone assumed I was an employee and asked me a business-related question. I've never felt so horrified and now feel confident that I have some clue what it is like to live my life with minority status.

More recently I wore a golf shirt and went to play poker. The black man to my left started asking me questions about my golf game. When I said, "I don't actually play golf, I just like the shirt" he came out and didn't said, "now you know what it is like to be me, you honkey" but I knew that was what he didn't mean. I wept quietly.

Not a fan of my sense of humor?

I just got mocked by my woman for smirking too much while I was typing that out.

rookie mistake. It's never happened to me, not even from employers.

I was assaulted recently in the street by a guy screaming at me to go back to my country and get the **** out and so forth. I am a big white guy ... It all depends what is normal where you live.
11-14-2014 , 12:46 PM
that actually sounds like fun. Next time there's one of those anti-mexican protests around here, I'm going to counter-protest across the street and tell the protestors to go back to Europe where their ancestors are from

Sexism is a part of it. The fact he was mistaken for a woman pretty much shows that. But this switches very quickly to perceived classism once that is corrected.

Whites have real racism happen to them all the time. People forget racism doesn't happen in a vacuum with only people being on the detrimental side.

Nope, Whites aren't denied equal access to housing...they are granted unequal access by being afforded disproportionate access to housing, jobs, interviews. But it's amazing how easily dismissed this notion is when it's much easier to talk about 'others.' Which tends to take the focus off Whites(most responders here) and their own benefiting from it.

But then, many (White)people want to fight racial social injustice while keeping the benefits they gain from the injustice, not realizing to really move toward equality, their privileges have to diminish. <There's a reason they call it 'privilege', and it's not because just one side is getting screwed>

Dirty hippie, with your long-hair, peace and love. We don't serve your imaginative and caring kind around here.

Long-hairism is an element of historic cultural prejudice. Part of breaking power-divided society is being, by choice, totally out of control to those with discriminatory power. The fact your appearance is in your control, made by your choice, makes prejudice against long hair, short hair, no hair, prejudice against freedom of choice- itself. Chief reason why it is repugnant and in the same tent as other -isms.

You'll have to hold me down to cut my awesome long hair upon demand. Sadly, that kind of hateful **** has happened. Good news is long hair become a broader trend and more accepted. I dunno, does systemic long-hair-ism even still exist?

I wouldn't say I experienced this racism, but somebody is suing UNC and Harvard over their "racial preferences" in admissions. They are arguing that affirmative action, early admission, and legacy policies all favor one race or another. I would agree affirmative action and legacy policies favor one race, but I don't see how giving preference to someone who applies early favors a race.

It is interesting that colleges can still use race as a factor in choosing its students, but it is totally unacceptable in every other business that I can think of. Imagine if a country club said we are only accepting Asian members now to help diversity or a accounting firm said they were looking to hire a Hispanic CPA to help capture the growing Hispanic population.

Bahbah, at least read this before you keep spewing your nonsense. Like ignore the proposed remedy, just read the history, and then see if maybe you can figure out how affirmative action for college might be different than, say, NBA teams.
