I still think that beat cop who asked me if I was joining AQ when he saw I was growing a beard a few months after 9/11 was racist. He definitely made an assumption about my appearance and was not making any sort of religious argument.

Wow, yeah that's a pretty racist comment to make about someone with a beard who has trouble speaking English

Indeed. Clarity in discussions and avoiding confusion is a good thing. Remains the fact that it obviously matters a great deal to others or they would just make clear their usage.

I've been looking at a pair of nice Gucci shoes to wear when I get married. So, my fiance and I were in San Francisco, doing the holiday tourist thing. We walk into the Gucci store in Union Square and go up to the men's shoes. No one really makes the effort to see if I need any help. Like 5 minutes later, these Mexican kids rocking Hermes belts and more than likely Narco kids, walk in and start to browse. This Asian lady working there comes up to me then and asks if I'm with them. When I say no, she turned around and walked away...Does this count?

It's a fallacious term. Revenge racism might exist in individuals, but racism is racism and the only direction it takes us is regressive and cynical.

We deal with revenge racism by appealing to justice and that requires having justice. It is up to each one of us to uphold and create justice when it's diminished or absent.
