This is a serious post and serious question, inspired by Mat's posting in the ATF BruceZ thread.

Long enough to be defended or mocked. I don't see the point to leaving racist stuff up just to prove we are edgy or unchained or anything. There is value in discussing why it is racist for some posts but the danger is allowing st.rmfront type crap to hang around "as an example of what not to do."

I think that racists personal attacks should not be allowed but attacking racists should be allowed. I'm fine with racism being permitted under those conditions.

I lean more towards Mat's stance than Dids'. I'm not even entirely convinced SM2 should have been banned.

Besides, let's face it. PU liked beating up on Silver Dunce. It was like the most popular game in town for months.

So how do we identify the racists? Popular vote, a Duds style petition? What? Seriously your criteria is ridiculous.

Yea why not. Lets make this a forum with no mods. Forcing racists into hiding their views does nothing. Its like sweeping the dirt under the rug.

Just have one thread where all talk about race is allowed except slurs.

Racism is fine in PU , having people try and explain racism or justify it is better.

Why is it so important to silence what you consider racism? Somebody declares they want to lynch blacks ok that is fine do remove that sort of vile, hateful stuff. Someone says Mexicans are lazy well I'm not sure why you would want to silence them when the stupidity of that sort of bigotry is so easy to demonstrate. Can you honestly say that BruceZ will keep on keepin on with the kind of post he made?

I've wondered a lot why a lot of you are so gung-ho on silencing people that you consider racist. One thought I had was that lot of you feel that if you silence them it will go away. I don't agree that it will.

It is all probably moot anyway because Matt is going to shut this forum down. I will say that the OP I made about BruceZ the other day I would never make in the politics forum for many reasons. On BruceZ, I have a lot of respect, admiration, and awe for his mathematical prowess so it really pains me to see his name being dragged through the mud but I understand the outrage. I just think he has contributed a lot to this site which I hope still has a lot to do with gambling with an edge. A lot more than his ardent and outraged detractors have but I readily concede that he brought it on himself.

Given Mat's stance on Bruce I think that SM2 should not have been banned.

Let me mod it. At worst I can troll dids et al way better than spanky and at best I'll go on a multi - day rampage of bannings leading to 6 threads and war in syria. I may have those backwards actually

Personally, I was never a fan of Unchained. I've always simply wanted a politics forum where the site rules are enforced.

How about this as an attempt in line drawing on race: posts that contain direct racial abuse of another or that incite violence are not allowed. Racist ideas are allowed.

I say we actually try moderating it with the original motivation. If you don't want to be bothered by post reports, I'm fine with ignoring everything but blatant pointless hate. If people want to complain, let them.

I'm still not sure how we missed that step and went to Kurto and Spank modding with much stricter rules.

But regardless, like I said in he other thread it's not clear to me what purpose this forum serves given the content we're seeing generated.

that gets back to the issue of simply allowing racists to spew hatred when it goes against forum rules

either the entire forum (all of 2p2) rules need rewritten just for this forum, or there's not much point of this place existing
