You can't be this obtuse. One must conclude that you are lacking a bit on being informed about this topic.

So, really, Lara Croft isn't in any way a piece of meat meant to entice men? All the semi-nudity is just mean to show off what a powerful, intelligent woman she is? Video game characters showing up in the pages of Playboy highlights their mental capacities?

if you look at only her dress, she looks like basically every other 13-40 year old girl/woman on a summer day, so no, in her case, i don't feel like her clothing is being particularly objectifying unless you want to say that millions upon millions of women and girls are objectifying themselves on a daily basis.

im more than happy when i read a playboy article about an intelligent girl and then see her naked because she is ridiculously sexy. i see no problem with it and i think that showing that women can be both sexy and intelligent is a positive thing.

Arkham City, not Arkham Asylum. You should, it's a great game. It would be tons better without sexism though. There isn't much of that, but some of it is pretty awkward.

oops thanks for the correction. im a huge fan of batman but the game style doesnt appeal to me. from what i have read it looks like the type of game that i would just put on easy and run through... which might be worth it. if i finish witcher 2 before going back to the states ill give it a shot but if i finish the witcher right before getting back i am going to try to tackle dark souls.

Big muscles on low rez characters - shows they're strong
Big boobs on low rez characters - shows they're sexy/beautiful

Big muscles irl - actually strong, possibly the only indication of physical strength
Big boobs irl - not always sexy, certainly not the only indication of beauty

If you want to make the argument that they picked huge boobs (and let's be honest, of Angelina Jolie needed padding to get up to Lara Croft's cup size, those boobs were nothing if not huge) because it is a lazy substitute for beauty, I'll absolutely agree. I also feel its little more than objectification/overt sexualization of a character that didn't really need it.

Prince of Persia Sands of Time-era wasn't ripped by GoW standards, but he was certainly capable. Similarly, where was the need for enormous breasts for Lara Croft? Why do we have to pretend that decision was based on anything other than getting some repressed teenagers to desire her sexually?

I think i found the picture to prove that sexism in games is a problem.

Look at that. 2 clearly male chars taking turns on a clearly female round symbol and since thats my opinion it cant be wrong so we need to do something about this instantly because the children will grow up thinking this is how it is.
06-08-2013 , 02:37 PM
yeah because that's relevant.

Pong and this:

Spoiler:

Completely the same.
06-08-2013 , 02:56 PM
lol is that a mainstream game?
06-08-2013 , 02:59 PM
Nahhhh

I've never even heard of the companies involved. Acclaim? Microsoft? Sony? Nintendo? No ****ing clue who they are.
06-08-2013 , 03:01 PM
i wasn't being sarcastic. i had never heard of a game like that. thanks for the douchey response.
06-08-2013 , 03:02 PM
Low key i was obv satirical but my point is if you want to find something to complain about you can find that in any game. Does that make it a problem for the overall industry imo no.
Also your picture really says nothing out of context. All it is is a girl riding a bike topless and that in itself is not sexist

I wasn't meaning it that way at all, sorry if it came off like that. I certainly didn't know who released it either. Was just trying to make a joke.

Yes, out of context, anything can mean nothing! Great argument!
06-08-2013 , 03:28 PM
what does gow standards mean?
06-08-2013 , 03:30 PM
GoW = gears of war
06-08-2013 , 03:33 PM
thanks.

unfortunately your point regarding prince of persia and muscles = strength both went over my head
06-08-2013 , 03:35 PM
Just pointing out that there can be capable/able bodied males in games who aren't steroid-induced 99% muscle-bound brick ****houses

BGP, google dragons crown. It's not that hard to find examples.

In addition, it's not just about the games but about things like booth babes and general misogyny in gaming culture and and even at companies. There have been some really good articles/conferences lately and you should look them up and educate yourself.

So you are saying that the general gamer hates women? And at companies they have to choose from the pool that has a degree in the programming field or similar. How high % of those are women would you say? I say a gaming company are much more likely to hire a woman than a man with the same skills since the women are more rare in the field.

Booth babes isnt anything other than marketing since sex sells and really has nothing to do with gaming since all conventions have babes of some sort.

I guess I'm dumb for asking this, but what sexism is everyone referring to in AC? Something to do with Catwoman and Harley Quinn? Because I don't think either character was portrayed differently than in the comics or movies.

Well they were shallow and pretty much just ass/tits pose for sure (Ivy, Catwoman and Harley), but listen to the regular convicts on the roofs while gliding in the city. They say the darnest things when the game progresses.

Comics aren't exactly the greatest standard.

Spoiler:

The classic ass/tits pose. Anatomically impossible.

Well not to be a dick but is there any chance that this was a tool to increase immersion within the game world? Pretty much everyone is a max security prisoner. How often do they see women, how do you think real life prisoners would act and talk about when describing their fantasies to a buddy. I mean it probably wasn't necessary but it probably a little short sighted to say that it's just the result of the developers displaying angst towards women.

Wrt to Catwoman and Harley Quinn, they are pretty much true to the comics. Catwoman is the representation of lust and temptation to Batman and Quinn is just Joker's crazy girl. The game also had another female character who was intelligent and not overly sexualised and that's Talia al Ghul.

so then the programmers are sexist as opposed to the convicts whom they are trying to accurately portray? a lot of dudes locked up for serious crimes are pretty damn sexist, so i hope you've got some over the top unrealistic examples to provide.

and thanks for letting us know that you failed anatomy. try again, please.
