the right woman for the job... Dr. Jill Stein the right woman for the job... Dr. Jill Stein

06-22-2015 , 04:14 PM

Dr. Jill Stein officially launches her campaign as a Green Party candidate for the 2016 presidential race. "I have a people-powered campaign," Stein notes. "I am running with the only national party that does not take corporate funding." Stein, a physician and activist who first ran in 2012, outlines her platform. She joins the fray as the race for the Democratic Party nomination heats up. Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, a self-proclaimed democratic socialist, has emerged as Hillary Clinton’s main rival for the party’s nomination, as his poll ratings have surged in recent weeks. "Hillary is the Wal-Mart candidate. She has been a member of the Wal-Mart board. On jobs, on trade, on healthcare, on banks, on foreign policy, it is hard to find where we are similar."
speaks very presidential ...

doesn't reject science ...

promises accountability for bankster theft ...

puts Earth first ...

recognizes "this is not a recovery, it's an emergency" ...

won't take corporate funding ...

(sadly, un-electable due to those factors above)

I'm not sure what would have to happen for a 3rd party candidate to make a viable challenge for President and not just canabalise voters from on of the major parties.

I may just throw her my vote this time.

I was thinking Skully might have been able to but the timing would have to have been right and the fame more universal. Maybe if there was a giant movie star or sports star but I don't know if that's possible anymore.

I don't really understand the 3rd party presidential candidate.

It's always felt to me like the money/effort would be significantly better spent cherrypicking regions to get people elected to Congress. Especially in the senate where votes are often close and not always on party lines - a 3rd party senator could probably effect a bit of real change and start building momentum for the party.

She may be unelectable for other reasons.

From the link:

"So, our top plank really is a Green New Deal to transform our economy to a green economy, 100 percent wind, water and sun by the year 2030—we can do it; this is an emergency, and we must do it—but to use that as an opportunity to put America back to work, to renew our infrastructure and to basically assure that everyone has a job. That’s another key plank of our Power to the People Plan, that it ensures economic rights for everyone—the right to a job, the right to complete healthcare through a Medicare for All, improved Medicare-for-All plan; that we ensure the right to quality education, from preschool through college, and that includes free public higher education and abolishing student debt."

and this:

"You may remember, Amy, because your cameras were there in 2012, I was arrested, along with my running mate, at one of the debates simply for showing up, you know, to listen. I was arrested ... at the presidential debate, and sent to a dark site, surrounded by 16 Secret Service and police, handcuffed tightly to metal chairs for about eight hours, until the crowds had gone home. They were that afraid that word would get out that people actually have a choice that reflects their deeply held beliefs and values."

Not sure anyone is really arguing that she's electable

A fair amount of her policy positions have some merit, some are too radical/impractical (I don't think turning the economy completely upside down for a WWII ramp up against carbon is really the best course of action).

Given the clown car that's already in the debate field Id be happy to see her in a debate or two.

why isn't it? It's actually exactly what is needed.

Do it man. Vote for who you really want to be president. I voted for Obama in 08' and, in the aftermath, decided that people have to place stricter limits on compromise if they want change. I voted my conscious in subsequent elections. It's liberating and you know, even if your candidate doesn't win, it feels good to know large shows of support for alternatives to the preselected tweedle dee or tweedle dum can scare the **** out of the prevailing syndicate.

When your grandchildren are asking you why it's so hot outside and there isn't enough to eat, at least, if you try, you can say you did everything you could. Do you want to tell them you supported people who you knew were hell bent on destroying the planet?

I'm Canadian and voted for a Green Party candidate last provincial election. So there's that.

My point is about strategy and actually making a real difference.

Edit: I do enjoy your totally ignoring the majority of my post in your excitement to try and insult me.
