Response to Bill Maher/ Sam Harris views on Islam/Muslims Response to Bill Maher/ Sam Harris views on Islam/Muslims

A 2005 world BBC poll suggests that over 70% of Afgans support the USA.

The argument that Muslims are out to get us is bigoted, if that is allowed on this board then there is no doubt that holocaust denial as well as any and all criticism of Jews (not only Judaism) , should be allowed.

Can we have a special dispensation for thekid345 for at least one post to just say whatever he thinks and not get banned or infracted?

Should also look at this,

The first guy interviewed says that Arabs are the cousins of Jews, but you can see that his other views are problematic.

Of course, Folks can find videos of Palestinian shouting death to Israelis, and you can also find videos of Israels chanting death to Arabs. Wrt Israel and Palestine, both populations need to work on addressing the issue of radicalism/bigotry.

I thought this thread was about Islam? Is it about Islam or Jews or Israel?

Lol. Let's recap what happened here: thekid posts yet another thread about Islam. Someone posts a detailed Pew report that surveyed Muslim attitudes across 39 countries and territories over a 4 year period, which included more than 38,000 face-to-face interviews. True to form, instead of discussing anything contained in this lengthy and comprehensive report, thekid posts a video about someone who interviewed 250 Jewish-Israelis to determine their sentiment about Arabs??? Can you ever stay on topic, thekid?

Thekid, you are without a doubt, the dumbest poster itf. If you couldn't respond to someone critiquing any aspect of Islam with: 1) calling someone a bigot; 2) talking about Kurdish Muslims fighting ISIS; or 3) Jewish extremism, you would have absolutely nothing to say.

You brought up the pew poll to talk about how Muslims view certain things. The video I linked is inline with the topic of this thread. Israel is of course in the ME, its neighbors are Muslim majority countries, so we need to not only get the viewpoints of Muslims in the ME, but also Jews.

How about the Zoroastrians? They are also in the ME and their neighbors are mostly Muslim.

Then why did you title this thread " Response to Bill Maher/ Sam Harris views on Islam/Muslims" if you want to talk about Jews? Can we talk about how Muslims view things for just a bit in this thread?

This might not be true. It seems that most of the Zoroastrians were driven out or fled Iran because of discrimination and oppression and most fled to India (mostly by foot through hundreds of miles of desert). Their neighbors might be mostly Hindu now.

There are more to Muslims then that pew poll which suggests that a high # of Muslims support stoning others for adultery laws and that kind of stuff. Such as the 2005 world BBC poll, as well as common sense. To have the view that Islam is worse then the other religions, because of what a Pew poll says, just doesn't add up.

The poll I brought up asks the more important questions, such as how the folks in the ME feel about the Untied States. And in that poll, more Saudis have respect for the USA then Italians do.

Here is the op,

I signed the following pledge, and I think others should sign it as well. Sign this pledge folks, it will be something that angers groups like ISIS,

Muslims are our fellow Americans,

They are part of the national fabric that holds our country together. They contribute to America in many ways, and deserve the same respect as any of us. I pledge to spread this message, and affirm our country’s principles of liberty and justice for all.

You will note that I did not even use the word Islam above. This is about people who happen to identify as Muslims. I'm not sure that the Anti Muslim folks here on 2+2 took a look at the above videos. The message here is that Muslims are our brothers and sisters and they deserve the same respect as anyone else.

Fair question to you, can you go ahead and sign the pledge?

I would gladly sign the pledge if it said Jews are our fellow Americans.

What were the quotes by Maher etc that you took offense to?

Whose fault is it that a large percentage of muslims say they support stoning adulterers and killing apostates? Post your poll if you want it discussed.

Actually I think those questions the pew poll asks are much more important. Saying "do you support the US" is such a vague statement as to be absolutely meaningless. Never mind that it's from 2005 and thus may be completely invalid. It's like taking a poll from 2005 in the US saying "Do you support the war in Afghanistan?" The results are completely irrelevant to how people feel in 2014.
10-27-2014 , 12:18 PM
A lot of very terrible results in that Pew poll. Hundreds of millions of people believing in things like executing people who leave Islam.

But, that survey didn't include Muslim Americans.

http://pewresearch.org/files/old-ass...-americans.pdf

American Muslims are much more moderate.
10-27-2014 , 12:21 PM
Bigotry is a shared quality among different groups. This makes attacking it based on sectarian labels weak and even counterproductive.
10-27-2014 , 12:31 PM
thekid,

Saudis or other gulf states aren't a great example imo. They are not progressive in general. Terrible laws and practice and oppression of women and non-citizens. Of course they respect America. We are propping up their Monarchs.

If you want to talk about Muslim Americans, that's your ticket.

Muslim Americans are awesome.

There are probably over 1 million Muslims in Los Angeles county and thats great. There's absolutely no feeling here imo of jihad or anything like that. It's very good to have so much diversity here, be able to know different people, go to really good and varied restaurants, see different entertainment, etc.
