I'm not a coward at all. I simply understand how group dynamics work and what happens when people who truly dislike each other come into close proximity.
Mob mentality is an extremely dangerous situation and humans will often exhibit behavior they would never do if they were alone. That leads to escalation of violence. Both sides of the Virginia rally were armed, at least somewhat. People also had firearms. Humans, also, are extremely unpredictable when truly scared. If you scare someone enough you will get one of two reactions - complete capitulation or violence. In a rally type scenario - that means violence.
If I choose violence, it is at an individual level. I do not wish to actually physically attack anyone who may simply be caught up in something they don't truly understand. I believe most Antifa don't believe they are actually the fascists.
I also wouldn't want to run the risk of being a victim, by accident, at an event that gives me very little upside. It is possible that I could have participated in such an event when I was younger, but only if I had close friends ask for physical support, which I was always willing to lend before I had children.
So no, I disagree with you. Cowardice has nothing to do with it. I'm not scared of catching a beating. I just want to decide if putting myself in a situation where a beating is likely is worth it, and that event is surely not.
