Cities like NY, Philly, Austin, Houston, Miami, San Fran, San Antonio, Seattle, etc, are doing quite well, and have been for some time. The entire narrative that cities are being destroyed by liberals seems to be centered around the downfall of Detroit - which is located in a state that has had a Republican Governor something like 40 out of the last 55 years - and crime on the South Side of Chicago.

Meanwhile, have a look at the results of states in the South and Midwest voting Republican and embracing conservatism for several decades. I wouldn't call Tennessee and Alabama paradises.

Median household income for African-Americans in 2015 in Philly was $31,400, and for "multi race", $36,900. Total is $41,233.

Meanwhile, all-white, 83% Trump-voting Alabama hellhole Dekalb County is @ $35K across the board.
