I don't agree with the above at all, dependent on how you interpret it. As children grow older, they will learn to judge and make decisions for themselves. While they are young, they should be guided to developing good habits or traits that they can build on.
You don't rationalize with a 4 year old. You give them orders and rules, and they follow them, period.
I am not my child's friend, I am their father. My house, my rules, and they will be raised in a certain manner and taught in a certain manner. They will absolutely not do whatever they wish, and they will absolutely not get to dictate what rules they have to follow.
Only a fool would raise their children like that, and I'm telling you from experience, you can see the difference in their development as young as four. The difference between children in terms of speech, personality, skills, even that that age, is blatantly obvious.
