Of course you don't know that Orwell was leftist.

1984 was written before the widespread abuses of the Soviet Union were fully made public. Ironically Orwell serendipitously drew a picture of exactly what life was like under communism.

Huxley though.

Orwell was a leftist, but not a statist. And he didn't need Khrushchev to come out about Stalin's crimes to know that the USSR wasn't something he supported. He fought with the Anarcho-Syndicalists, not just against the Fascists in Spain, but also against the communists who were supported by the USSR. Well, more like he hid and escaped from the communists. And this was more than a decade before 1984 was written.

It must be fascinating to live in a world where this is a citation/an actual point

Yet if I said Fox you would be in full agreement.

You can intuit dead peoples opinions of current Presidents? That's quite the skill.

I can see how being able understand something about authors from reading what they wrote would seem very impressive to you.

Perhaps that's why Orwell's seminal works are so excellent at excoriating the Left. Takes one to know one.

I can only imagine Orwell's opinion on the double-think that has infected today's Regressives.

What?? No, I wouldn't, because you're having the same delusion that JiggyMac had yesterday with CNN. Fox is not a newspaper!!!!

There are other newspapers you could name that I'd agree with, but NYT's integrity is so respected that the worst thing Jiggy could say about them yesterday in trying to take them down is repeating a marketing tagline they used. You picked the worst possible example. If you need proof of my sincerity, I would still disagree with you if you said the Wall Street Journal even though they are now right-leaning at least as much as the NYT leans left.

I'm not sure you know what the word "seminal" means.

Get your mind out of the gutter.

Habitual dividers who intentionally organize loneliness can personally choose to be quiet and read more.

DODN: Restaurants serve such awful food these days (look at French Laundry)
Others: lol what
DODN: And yet if I said Taco Bell you'd agree with me! CHECKMATE LIBTARDS

And this is a confirmation of how mentally ****ed up you are - equating the NYT with the French Laundry. Hahahahaha!!

In your analogy it would be like putting up a sign saying "French Laundry" at a laundromat that served rat ****.

And why do you go to this narrow target of "newspaper"? As if they're the only organization capable of publishing news. Or as if everyone else cares about their ratings, but newspapers don't care about their circulation.

Lol. Such a poor understanding of almost all dystopian literature. His critique was not serendipitous, and attacked government themes of nationalism, censorship, and surveillance, features not privy to just socialism or even communism. "Ingsoc" is a euphemism, a literary device.

My mind wasn't in the gutter. What later developments did those works influence? Usually people say "seminal works" as something that started a field of study or often specifically a lot of later work by the same person. Animal Farm and 1984 were more like his ultimate works. And what they are is anti-statist, anti-totalitarian, anti-nationalist, anti-xenophobic, and thus anti-Trump just like his early (and better) non-fiction.

DODN's argument is "you like some newspapers but not others" as if they're all equal which you should find hilariously dumb if you weren't such a partisan hack

Orwell was like, straight up a communist, you get that, right? His attacks on the Soviet Union were FROM THE LEFT.

Actually, **** it, let's just go in:

Besides Animal Farm and 1984, what works of Orwell have you read? Hell, besides those two, what works by him can you NAME?

I think those works are fairly ground breaking - in their ability to warn the masses of the threats of communism, socialism, statism, and the surveillance state - all themes of the current Regressive ideology.

I know Regressives would like to revise history as if 1984 and Animal Farm aren't directly speaking to them - but hey, if I was the party of racism, I'd probably want to rewrite history too.

To make it clear that it's not just anti-USSR, there are three nations Oceana, Eurasia and Eastasia which are pretty clearly meant to be the future of centralized powers whether from the West like US/UK, Russia, or China. They are all pretty much the same.

Dude, the Dems did basically roll over for the Republicans, but the Patriot Act and perpetual war are YOUR THING for **** sake!

The war on terror and the war on drugs could not be more like 1984.

The party of IngSoc is straight up English Socialism. Are you suggesting they're the good guys in the story? I guess they would be for a Regressive, but still.
