I think the premise is correct. I don't know successful people who don't work hard, in the sense they work harder than the average person. Inherited wealth or getting into a particularly advantageous situation like the person in that article where they were being paid 3x the normal rate or hitting the ****ing Powerball don't really count.
If working 40 hour weeks was an easy path to success, more people would be successful, by definition. That is not the case. The norm is mediocrity, not rising above it. The average guy schlepping 40 hour weeks just isn't rising very high. That's just the truth in almost every case I've come across.
