WSJ is, irritatingly, the most paywalled news site on the web as far as I can tell, so I still haven't read the original article, just what everyone else has been saying about it.

Deleted two others (and some from the CNN thread). Occasional one will be let go but don't 'spam' the threads with them please.

So all the Trump slappies have called the Russian investigation "fake news," but now we have a center-right newspaper confirming intelligence reports that the Trump campaign--via Flynn--was seeking the help of Russian hackers in their quest to acquire Clinton emails:

Quote:
The operation Mr. Smith described is consistent with information that has been examined by U.S. investigators probing Russian interference in the elections.

Those investigators have examined reports from intelligence agencies that describe Russian hackers discussing how to obtain emails from Mrs. Clinton’s server and then transmit them to Mr. Flynn via an intermediary, according to U.S. officials with knowledge of the intelligence.
At the same time we have the president asking the FBI to shutter an investigation into the man who, according to this new evidence, was the Trump campaign go-between for Russian hackers and Trump's presidential campaign. When the FBI director refused, he was fired by the president, who admitted that he was thinking about the Russia investigation when he fired Comey.

To the BS/mongi brigade this is all "fake," but soon they will retreat from that claim and begin talking about there being nothing wrong with trying to get Clinton's emails. In fact, the "Yeah, we colluded, so what?" argument is being trotted out by media personalities who communicate directly with the president:

I look forward to adios posting a Wassermann-Schultz meme in rebuttal.

The only thing you really worry about is college tuition, but you plan that out and save.

Yeah. If you're an engineer and you marry a nurse when you guys are 26 years old, have 2 kids and live in a nice neighborhood? Yep. America is great.

Now go through the same exercise with a guy working construction making 18 dollars an hour married to a secretary making 17 dollars an hour. How have globalist policies helped them? If they lived in an ok neighborhood before they got pushed out due to the rising rents in cities across the country. Job security? Lol. 401k? Please. Healthcare? Hopefully one of them has benefits, but it probably doesn't even cover dental. Save to buy a house? Out of the question, when it's 300k to even start to find something decent. College? Lol, yeah, ok.

I went to a matinee a few weeks to watch alien covenant and somehow managed to spend 25 bucks. Christ, a cheesesteak is 10 dollars now. 10 dollars!

I really think many of you fail to see how stressful and hard it is for middle class people to make it. They are under siege in every category. Food, energy costs, schooling, insurance. Everything is a goddamn fortune these days. And what did the middle class get? Bad neighborhoods with cricket wireless stores and fried chicken joints.

It's a goddamn travesty. Open your eyes and look around you. Look at the bus stops. Look at the people working at the fast food joints. The middle class hasn't gotten a raise in what? 35 years?

It's a ****ing disgrace.
You can argue for whatever arbitrary cutoff points for middle class you want, I wasn't trying to make the case that the 'average' person is better, just that the value of the capital base has grown significantly.

Worth noting though is how ridiculous it is to define middle class as people who're living in bad neighborhoods, struggling to pay bills and incapable of saving.

"I went to a matinee a few weeks to watch alien covenant and somehow managed to spend 25 bucks. Christ, a cheesesteak is 10 dollars now. 10 dollars!"

And if you were on a tighter budget you'd probably go to to the theater on half price day, or do like 90% of young people and download it either for free or subscribe to some service for 10$ a month that gets you all the movies, tv shows and documentaries you'll ever want to watch.

I don't think we define middle class the same way. Couples making <100k total income have a real issue breaking into the real estate market. Most are forced to buy in crappy neighborhoods to get started or simply rent. Of course this depends on the metro area but I know in Philadelphia that is the case.

My point is there is a huge squeeze on the middle class and I think people really don't understand it well.

https://www.google.com/amp/www.cnbc....s-account.html

When it comes to saving money, Americans are falling short. According to a 2016 GOBankingRates survey, 69% of Americans have less than $1,000 in their savings accounts — and 34% have no savings at all

I think that stat is very enlightening. My personal feeling is that things are much worse for people than we think it is.

You don't think people understand well the much publicised squeeze that's happened to the middle classes over the last 10 years or so? Politicians and the media on both sides of the pond have hardly stopped talking about it. lolwil

I hope this isn't going to be yet another example of your "I'm thinking outside of the box by repeating something commonly known" nonsense.

Note: it's OK to post the occasional image. If all you're planning to do from now on is to post zero-content memes to troll than I will exile you from the forum.

Your style of posting is just really annoying. The constant tweets just slows down my browser and very few of them actually add any content. They are opinions by morons about moronic stuff.

I have no problem with almost anyone in how they post. I'm just pointing out your style of posting sucks. It was the thing that annoyed me about einbert. Thank God he's gone. Leave him wherever he is.

Hopefully you're next to depart.

The majority of these people live in deep-red states and have been voting Republican their entire life. 95 of the poorest 100 counties in the US are in states that voted for Trump. None are in deep blue ones.

In general, my opinion is if the economy was doing very well and if more people were personally benefiting from the success of the USA as a whole, many of these social issues would go away.

I suspect what is happening in society today is a combination of regular people not doing well at all and the virtue signalling in social media being an unforseen problem. I guess it's the Facebook effect, people who really like being praised in social circles that don't mean jack ****. And of course some of those social media moves opens new doors to people who would/should have never been recognized by anyone in any way, shape, or form.

You are a perfect example of that. The majority of Americans don't think or feel the way you do, yet you have a strong voice in this forum and quite a bit of support. You are the antithesis of American values, yet your use of popular 2+2 rhetoric combined with groupthink and virtue signalling make most people support you, and the ones who disagree with you stay silent due to fear of that being interpreted as support of me, who is viewed as a pariah.

100% of my family members would laugh at your views on work ethic. I suspect most Americans would, too. Yet here we are, where you think you are the righteous one in the way you think. And I don't even blame you, you are a(n?) European, that's the way you are trained to think. You care more about yourself than others. I care more about others than myself. My own happiness takes a backseat to my responsibilities. What, really, is the more noble position?

Do you have any data supporting this?

I may be biased in my views on this topic, as I live in Philadelphia, the largest poor city in the United States (from what I've read). I see some really poor ass people every day, and it annoys me. Not that people are poor, because most of them are just wonderful people, just that there are so many of them living in such a rich country. I really wish it would be evened out a little more. The disparity is bad. I suspect it's actually worse than we realize.

That being said, there are many really poor people in cities, just as there are in the rural areas. Why do you think it's more prevalent in the red states?

Disagree completely. If there's anything stopping a household with an income of 75k from entering the real estate market it's consumer debt and spending habits.

Quote:

Not true. I wouldn't recommend people go all in on real estate, but if that's your goal for whatever reason you can very easily get financing on homes that're far, far above the national median with a joint income of 75k assuming you've got enough for a standard down payment.

A quick google suggests that the median house price is 188k. Seems low to me, but on 75k you could easily get financing for a house double that value with a down payment that could be saved within a matter of a year or two.

Define huge.

http://www.taxpolicycenter.org/stati...come-quintiles

This doesn't include inflation but given an inflation rate of about 2% over the past decade - none of the quintiles are getting killed, and none have done much better than the others. It's more accurate to say that real wages have been stagnant.

Incidentally the 5 years following nafta showed the biggest gains for people in the bottom quintile since the 70s.
