Everything happens. That doesn't mean it's a widespread problem.

Which is interesting, because women tell Bill Maher the same thing:

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/22/a...pagewanted=all

"When he said that transgender people have a “psychiatric disorder,” do you just move on from that?

Move on? It dominated the entire [online] segment. The other guests attacked him. When I say, “That’s not unreasonable” [to not want to share a bathroom with a transgender person] it’s because women have said that to me: “I want to know,” or “I’m not comfortable with someone in the bathroom, even if they, in their minds, have decided they are a woman.” Doesn’t that opinion count at all?"

"Hey stupid liberals! Your ideas suck! Look at this awesome city that proves you wrong on everything."
*Points to most liberal city in the country*

Wow, this is a whopper of a post. Let's work through every sentence, one bit at a time.

Huh? What is the rhetoric "people like me spew" that implies we think mobs of angry white men go around killing gays for being gay? Could you point out posts I've made espousing such rhetoric?

All this drivel just to bring up the 77 cent gap that liberals in this very thread have said they don't think is accurate?

Like, this all started because you got mad at us, in this thread, and told us everything we believe is a lie. Why are you unable to cite things we actually believe? Shouldn't it be easy, given that they're all lies?

Pretty pathetic showing, wil.

I wonder why things are so good for gay people in San Fran.

Quote:
The first openly gay elected official, [Harvey Milk] was aware of the tremendous discrimination and prejudice that confronted gays and lesbians. Under his urging, the city council passed a Gay Rights Ordinance in 1978 that protected gays from being fired from their jobs.
Cool. Let's make it national.

I can actually see it in their faces when I ask them to support their arguments about racism or sexism. They spew the same crap you guys spew and when challenged they completely shut down or get angry. They sure as hell don't win debates.

Shrug. It's your life. Do with it what you will, it matters little to me.

goofy are you willing to completely disavow the wage gap?

It may be possible that specific industries discriminate against women, but to say that as a whole women make 23% less for the same work is ludicrous.

Of all the democratic talking points the wage gap is the most ******ed.
06-26-2017 , 02:57 PM
I think we are all pretty much willing to disavow that the 23% figure represents a gap for equal work.

I need to go round up all the posts I've made on the wage gap in like 5 different threads, combine them into one FAQ, and then post it somewhere so I have something convenient to link to every time this comes up
06-26-2017 , 03:01 PM
Well named, has your view of the wage gap changed at all due to the discussions we've had?
06-26-2017 , 03:02 PM
As if on cue:

Supreme Court Orders States to List Same-Sex Parents on Birth Certificates; Gorsuch Dissents

Quote:
His dissent should be deeply alarming to LGBTQ advocates; it indicates an eagerness to read Obergefell with implausible narrowness, and a hostility to the extension of civil rights to same-sex couples.
06-26-2017 , 03:03 PM
Not particularly, no. It provided an opportunity to go find useful research on the subject, though, which I enjoy.

As far as I can tell you've never actually understood or really tried to engage with anything I've said on the subject. You have been content to merely repeat the line about 77%.
06-26-2017 , 03:06 PM
Was it the original wage gap discussion that birthed wil's "mumbo jumbo" approach of wil-ful (get it?) ignorance to any information that contradicted his world view?

Again, liberals base arguments on lies. It's a serious problem. They look for a way to make up a position. It's the same thing with every study on racism or bias. Ask yourself, why do they never COMPARE racism in whites versus other groups? I suspect it's because other races are more racist than whites are. Yet that would never be a data point.
06-26-2017 , 03:10 PM
Obama made the mistake of citing the 77c figure as being in reference to "equal work" one time, I believe. In like 2008. And then he corrected himself after that. I could be wrong about that, but it's my recollection of events.

I have no difficulty conceding that politicans often over-simplify issues for political purposes, but if you feel really bent out of shape about Obama misrepresenting the data on a complicated social issue in a stump speech 9 years ago, or the general problem of politicians lying and manipulating their audiences, then I would like to introduce you to Donald Trump, who seems to put everyone else to shame in this particular field. Mostly, the liberals in this forum don't take your complaints about liberal politicians lying seriously because you seem oblivious to the fact that conservative politians seem to lie a whole lot more brazenly, especially in the Trump era.

Anyway, my interest in the subject isn't really the politics, but the sociology. Nothing I've ever posted on the subject was intended as a defense of Obama.

To try to win people to their side by overselling the scale of the problem, obviously. But...

Are you really making the claim that it's exclusively liberals who do this? Conservatives don't misrepresent numbers? I know you aren't stupid enough to really believe this, right? Right?

edit: oh who am I kidding, of course wil really believes it

The wage gap argument changed my entire political view. Yes. Once I realized how liberals manipulate data to argue something that is untrue I became suspicious of everything. I then started rethinking everything.

I was distraught for quite a while. I would assume it would be like a religious person realizing there is no god. Liberals are liars, and once you are able to realize that you can look at things correctly.

It was an enlightening experience and one that makes me ashamed looking back. I can't believe I actually was stupid enough to believe in so much of their crap. I thought I was smarter than that. I guess not

No, of course not. Conservatives lie too, especially when trying to support any religious arguments. I'm simply saying I can now see the lefts lies, which I couldn't before.

Man, wil is so woke.

Even right now liberals are like "yeah we don't believe the 77c number" as wil is trying to tell everyone that we clearly do, but he's so proud and thinks he's so smart because he figured something out that even liberals here have known for a long time! It's adorable.

system that (probably) doesn't exist but granted I have literally no idea how welfare works so someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
Not totally, but basically.

I'm pretty sure wil is getting his info from this ****ed up Cato Institute report from 2013. Or more specifically, from some alt-right derpsite that got it from there. So, telephone game.

One of the surefire ways to have your welfare benefits exceed minimum wage is to be a single parent with children. The underlying concept is that it's a better social investment to have these people focus on raising their children rather than pumping gas or whatev. That's just picking one aspect, but this nuance is already beyond the scope of pv8.8 and wil et deplorable al.

Senate modifies Trumpcare bill to punish people without health insurance

Quote:
Senate Republican leaders, pushing toward a vote this week to repeal the Affordable Care Act, altered their health care bill on Monday to penalize people who go without health insurance by requiring them to wait six months before their coverage would begin.

Insurers would generally be required to impose the waiting period on people who lacked coverage for more than about two months in the prior year.
So, it's not a mandate, but...it's kind of a mandate?

Stuff like this is why not even 50% of Republicans support Trumpcare (overall support is at a dismal 17%, lol wow)
06-26-2017 , 03:23 PM
It happens fairly often that I fall into the trap of trying to understand how on earth they arrived at the provisions in the bill, but then someone inevitably reminds me that all of these health care details are irrelevant, the point is to eliminate the ACA taxes, and I go "oh yeah! right".
