Global carbon emissions stayed flat in 2016 for the third year in a row, even as the global economy continued to grow. It will be interesting to see if this trend stops in 2017 and 2018 as Trump goes all-in on burning coal and other supremely stupid things.

Chief Justice of CA Supreme Court tells ICE to stop stalking immigrants at courthouses

Quote:
"Enforcement policies that include stalking courthouses and arresting undocumented immigrants, the vast majority of whom pose no risk to public safety, are neither safe nor fair," she wrote. "They not only compromise our core value of fairness but they undermine the judiciary's ability to provide equal access to justice."
"Equal access to justice" is not a goal of the Trump administration, of course.

Palm Beach County is buckling under the pressure of Trump's constant visits

Quote:
“I’m not sure that anyone understood that when the president referred to Mar-a-Lago as the ‘southern White House,’ he really intended to visit almost every week,” said Rep. Theodore E. Deutch (D-Fla.), who represents Palm Beach and is pushing for federal appropriators to address the growing costs. “There are a lot of people who come to Palm Beach County over the entire winter to enjoy the weather and enjoy the golfing.

“When the president chooses to do the same thing, it raises a whole host of other issues,” he added.

County officials are warning about the ballooning costs associated with paying time and a half to sheriff’s deputies to secure the president’s exclusive members-only club — a price tag that is already more than $1.5 million — and county commissioners are pleading with federal officials to step in and relieve the financial burden.
And businesses are getting hurt by his presence:

Quote:
More than two dozen businesses employing 400 people operate out of the airport.

Instead of overseeing flights, Hussain sat outside his hangar Saturday, his five Cessna 172 fixed-wing planes parked nearby, grounded for the weekend by a “temporary flight restriction” order from the Secret Service — the highest level of restrictions aimed at pilots, used whenever the president is in town.

...
“The weekend flights are 33 percent of my business,” he said. “I’m surviving, but I don’t know how much longer. I lose $8,500 a weekend when we’re shut down. For a small guy like me, that’s a lot of money.”

Retired police chief who served for 29 years is detained at JFK for having a Muslim-sounding name

Quote:
At one point, Aden said he asked an officer how much time could pass for a detention to be considered reasonable. The officer replied that Aden wasn't being detained.

But inside the room, where there were three desks staffed by CBP employees and two dozen chairs, signs read "Remain seated at all times" and "Use of telephones strictly prohibited."

"Two signs that this was not voluntary; this was indeed a detention," Aden said.
Quote:
"I fully support the mission of the Customs and Border Protection agency," he said. "And I fully appreciate the difficulty of their job and the dangers of their job. What I question here is essentially their policies and what they view as a reasonable detention. And I would venture to say that 90 minutes is an unreasonable detention when there is no probable cause to believe that a crime has occurred."
Quote:
"This experience makes me question if this is indeed home," Aden said on Facebook. "My freedoms were restricted, and I cannot be sure it won't happen again, and that it won't happen to my family, my children, the next time we travel abroad. This country now feels ... in the beginning stages of a country that is isolating itself from the rest of the world - and its own people - in an unprecedented fashion."
Just one way that only the most vulnerable in society bear the true cost of these policies.

An important data point that's getting lost in all the chaos of the last few days: when Napolitano repeated the false story about Obama wiretapping Trump tower, he was repeating it from RT--the story was Russian propaganda to begin with. So not only is Trump spreading lies about our former President, he's spreading the false propaganda of the Kremlin at the same time.

Report Confirms Fox News’ Napolitano Repeated Russian Media For His British Intelligence Conspiracy Theory
https://mediamatters.org/blog/2017/0...spiracy/215751
Quote:
The New York Times has confirmed that Fox News legal analyst Andrew Napolitano sourced his false allegation that former President Barack Obama asked British intelligence to spy on President Donald Trump to a discredited former CIA analyst. This analyst, Larry C. Johnson, floated the conspiracy theory on the Russian state-sponsored news network RT on March 6, the week after Trump’s original accusation that Obama was responsible for an illegal wiretap.

New York Times is a liberal source. Same paper that said Hillary had a 99% chance of winning the election.

And the story you are getting told is watered down. Trump implying his campaign was spied on by the Dems and Obama and their is massive evidence to support that.

What do we know in plain sight? DNC chair Donna Brazille, colluded with CNN to feed Hillary questions..she is now finally coming clean. The DNC rigged the Dems primaries against Bernie.

Donald never had that kind of pull with the Republicans. They were all against him. The media laughed at him in the Primaries.

Your post is verbal diarrhea. None of your paragraphs have anything to do with each other. Calm down and rewrite it please.

Why do people equate this with being liberal? In the 1st round of March Madness, I figured UNC to have a very high % chance of beating the 16-seed Texas Southern. Does that mean I'm a UNC fan?

Yeah I beat my head against the wall trying to explain general gambling here after the election.

One of the dudes that lost the most in P on the election-winner is a right-winger.

Super liberal when they were promoting 2002 WMD fraud in Iraq, too, right? Cool story.

You use one example (a bad one at that) to show that the NYT isn't liberal?.... and it is 15 years old!

It's your job to show that it is liberal, dude.

I didn't make that claim. I just wanted to point out how funny casey's argument against the NYT being a liberal paper was.

Well this is a lie. We know that from the Comey hearings yesterday.

einbert, you didn't respond to my above posts that shows how rubbish one of your many re-tweets onto 2+2 was. If you have any thoughts on that little video in between you posting your next 20 tweets, videos, or links I'd love to hear them?

Do you really think the NYT is not, in general, liberally biased? I can understand someone saying that it's not leftist or commie, etc. But it's had a liberal reputation for many many decades. Is this rep not earned?

And no, i don't wish to try to prove it's liberal. I am just asking your opinion.

It depends how you define the bias of an entire paper. I think many people employed by the paper are liberal and especially their opinion pages & editorials tend to lean liberal, but I believe their news reporting (which is the most important function of a paper) is, on the whole, not biased and strives for objectivity.

I believe simpletons who cry "liberal media" anytime a NYT link is posted use the former as a sad excuse to dismiss the latter; for example, see the most recent instance on this page.

I'll let people watch the video and make their own conclusions. It is pretty clear to me that he's talking about Kaepernick and bragging about the idea that teams won't sign him because he'll go after them on Twitter.

Fair enough. I think the news section is also slightly skewed, but i don't really mind it.

I get my news from multiple sources in order to get all angles, and it's often interesting to see how the same story gets spun 5 different ways.

Experts on authoritarianism say Trump’s presidency is getting even worse
https://thinkprogress.org/experts-on...10f#.4qzgw5qg5
Quote:
President Trump is disturbingly similar to candidate Trump.

Robert Paxton, the Mellon Professor Emeritus of Social Science at Columbia University: “It’s hard to say we are on track to establish a fascist dictatorship. Alternative forces are still there. Though there’s not much doubt of the desire of Trump to govern as dictator.”

Sheri Berman, a political scientist at Barnard College: “I watched [the ABC] interview. I don’t understand why I’m still stunned, but I still can’t believe I’m watching this. That’s who he is. A lot of people pointed out what is both obvious but shocking at same time. He’s the same person he was during the campaign so in a way it’s very straight forward and there’s been no change. Some of us implicitly expected both his personality and policies would moderate somewhat. We got what we should have expected.”

Cas Mudde, an associate professor at the University of Georgia: “I personally think I was wrong on one important thing. I assumed that Trump would make a distinction between policies and propaganda and that the policies were in the hands of Heritage Foundation-type Republicans, who would pretty much deregulate the state and do all kinds of things that one would expect of the GOP. And that the radical right part of his entourage — mostly [Trump’s Chief Strategist Steve] Bannon and to a certain extent [NSA Director Michael] Flynn — were more important for propaganda; messages, speeches, and organizing rallies to rally the troops.

“The fact that Bannon is now on the NSC board, as well as [the fact that he] allegedly altered the Muslim ban by keeping green card holders in it — that’s a whole different level. That means that that he is going to be involved in the most important and hands-on decisions that President Trump makes. Bannon has a near-apocalyptic view of the world. That is pretty terrifying.”

Ruth Ben-Ghiat, professor of History and Italian Studies at New York University: “The big news of the week since Inauguration is also how prominent and influential Bannon will be in this administration, and that’s perhaps the most frightening thing of all.”

This is a very black or white issue. Did goaTRUMP "threaten to ruin any NFL team who signs kaepernick" in this video like the tweet that you posted claims or is the tweet a lie?

If you come to your senses and acknowledge that this tweet is a lie I think you owe everyone ITT an apology for another stupid post.
